The Official 2017/2018 NFL Thread

George Blanda

/thread

"He threw for 26,920 yards and 236 touchdowns, rushed for 344 yards and nine touchdowns, was 335 of 641 on field goal attempts and scored 2,002 total points. He also intercepted a pass and had two kickoff returns for 19 yards and 22 punt returns for 809 yards."

I said very few, and you gave the perfect example. Thank you :thumbup

it's not just the "era's" and rule changes. it's also their skill sets and personal styles. these are also influenced, highlighted, and enhanced by their coaching - thanks, Bill(s)

I disagree with this. There are players from every era who are comparable in their ability to read a defense and deliver the ball with precise timing and accuracy.

Johnny U.

Fran Tarkenton

Joe Montana

Brett Favre

Tom Brady

These are the guys that I think owned their positions for the decade in which they played. TB has actually owned for nearly two decades now. He is the GOAT of QB to this point. The caveat being the question as to whether or not he would have been able to span two decades had the rules changes protecting QB not been implemented.

talking about GOAT's like..... :laughing:teeth:party

well that was a fun two pages of flames being stoked heh

i start the Brady argument from my place of bias which is approximately "no fuck no hell fuck no", or something similar

it's hard to compare Montana to Elway to Manning to Brady and ask which is the best. why no Fafavrefe? Young? Unitas? Star? shit even Marino and Bradshaw at the fringes of this topic. In another decade we'll have to consider the feats of Rapelisberger and Manning, E.

it's not just the "era's" and rule changes. it's also their skill sets and personal styles. these are also influenced, highlighted, and enhanced by their coaching - thanks, Bill(s)

truth is Brady's game can't be denied. what he does well - plan, read, react, execute his O, protect himself - he clearly does as well as Montana and he's done it for longer. he's played like a Champion in the biggest games. he is an MVP.

with so many variables there's too much nuance to pick an indisputable GOAT from that list of QB's

so, clearly, the GOAT is the one transcendent player who has no peer in his skill group and dominated the game for 20 years

also known in baseball terms as "Mr. 22,895"

gtfo with this Tom Brady GOAT shit :teeth :x:party

Eli is my boy, he's a HoF guy for sure, a serious stat holder, but I have no illusions that he is not the GOAT. Even if he gets that last ring I want him to have to taunt Peyton at Thanksgiving, I know he is not the GOAT. Not even in the conversation.

He's just the GOAT Buster.

When there's something cheating, in your neighborhood, WHO YOU GONNA CALL?

^ No lie I was in a room full of bay area football fans watching that game and we all JUMPED for joy when Brady got punked.

Good move, IMO.

(Some of the ownership group wanted Tomlin fired.)

one of the things i've always adminred about the Steelers is their low HC turnover rate. it's genuinely impressive in the sports age of "he fucked up once, forget about all the good and fire him"

I read that as well. I’m mixed.

I think he is too much of a players coach. But I think you have to improve the defensive scheme. They should have let LaBeau go sooner and started that rebuild. Tomlin came as a defensive minded coach but it’s never came to fruition.

I love that we have consistency but you also can’t be scared to make changes after you get embarrassed.

Haley and Ben never got along that well to begin with, but throughout this season it was reported that Ben would only communicate to him through the QB coach. Between that, and the New Years Eve "dust-up" with a fan, in a bar, in Pittsburgh, I think Haley made himself expendable.

Todd Haley out as Steelers OC.

Cause offense was the problem. :facepalm

Im actually quite happy about this. Those fourth and 1 plays should have been a QB sneak. We all know how big and strong Ben is...call the sneak Todd! Nope, lets lose 4 yards instead. Sunday only solidified my dislike of Haley. I have never liked his play calling and definitely didn't like it on Sunday.

Real question is will Ben return?

I hope not. I hope him and Bell leave with Haley. Burn the barn and start a fresh. Our division is weak and we are never really out of it. Time to get ready for the future.

So one of my best and oldest friends (I was his Best Man, introduced him to his wife, Etc.) is a Pats fan from way back. We watched the '07 Superbowl at his place, drinking beers and talking shit. When Eli pulled off, "The Great Escape," to David Tyree, I wasn't saying shit. I was just siting back and grinning as I could feel the Pats falling apart. The room was dead silent for that drive from that play on. Me sitting back and grinning, he just staring at the screen. It was so good. No one had to say shit. I didn't rub it in, there was no need. :laughing

That is insane, dude. Bell is one of the best RB in football and he isn't even 26 yet. You keep that guy, he IS the future.

Im surprised Big Ben doesnt have more authority to change those 4&1 play calls to QB sneaks.... hes a veteran and should be given some freedom to do that.

They tried, but every time they let him call his own plays, he would call something about a co-ed locked in a bathroom, so they had to take him out of that. :D

I agree. 4th and 1 and they call a toss sweep against the fastest defense in the NFL?? And the other one was a pass? That was some weird play calling.

Pittsburgh had a bye and they looked completely unprepared...Jacksonville never looked uncomfortable in that game. I know Tomlin won a SB early on...but as the years have gone on, he reminds me of Andy Reid/Marty Schottenheimer. Great in the regular season...good to get bounced in the Divisional Rd.
