The Retire and Relocate Thread™

yeah. every time someone asks that dumb-ass question ‘what animal would you be?’, i always say gator (have survived for 200 million years).

Yeah, I would go with the venerable Salty. What a majestic horror story they are.

I’m happy being retired in the Willow Glen area of San Jose. I only owe less than 300,000 on my mortgage. And I have a 2.5% loan. I’m two blocks from downtown. And the neighborhood is super nice. I’ll stay here until I die.

Just got back from five nights in PCB. I can confirm that the area surrounding it, and basically the Emerald Coast in general, is pretty nice and "well equipped" for retirees. But holy shit is it flat there...as a motorcyclist, I just couldn't do it permanently.
Ha, ha... me either! Well I guess you could always go ride over the Tampa / St Pete bridge a bunch of times for an "altitude" adjustment 'cause it's like 430' high!
And on the plus side, on a clear day up on top, ya'll can see flat land fer approximately 25 miles in any direction. And... at night they got them awful purdy lights on it. Yes sirree, it's the purdiest dang bridge ya ever did see. :toothless

I did that from our hotel... :laughing

The dream for me is Lopez Island, San Juan Island, or Orcas Island up in Washington. I doubt it will ever be back in my price range though.

Did you ever see it when it was bright pink or blue?

My dad and I used to fish there too. Good memories for me as well but by high school, I’d decided that I agreed with Mark Twain that fishing was a jerk at one end of the line waiting for a jerk at the other.

Yeah, the blue stuff we knew enough to stay away from...no idea why we knew that...

Fishermen. Story of my youth life. My dad hated them and where our dock is, is one of the prime marked spots on fishing maps. Those guys would be out there at like 5am chatting it it up so loud...LOL on the Mark Twain quote. That's awesome!

I remember my dad saying that when he bought a boat he thought he was getting away from all the idiots on shore but it turns out idiots own boats too. :laughing

Was just reading about someone that died at rollins lake up here. These people on a jet ski that didn't know how to swim and weren't wearing life jackets. Sounds normal if it were 1978, but..

Sounds Darwin. . . .

Poking around Cottonwood, housing along the bottom of a dry wash, next to that Winery on a knob. I may be able to afford this one, if I can find a lender, , ,

DT

House a block away is for sale for a mill and a half. Great moto dig, if someone got a mill and more..
Bottom of Mt Ham. Location rocks bigly

My plan "B"
I have moved into THE spot I wanted here in Cottonwood Springs RV park.
A cleaner view of the red rocks across the valley, and a section of runway.
I have an airport to watch over, I did get spoiled starting with Vandenburg, relocated to Fairfield, lived in the pattern for Travis and Nut Tree.
Didn't lose any for the view of Mingus. Hang gilders have a launch site up there, land @ the airport.
Replace my Airstream with a park model, something with house sized accommodations, spin it around backwards, with the front porch facing the red rocks, morning sun, this location will minimize the gravel roads.
They have a gravel fluffer, a guy on a tractor with a metal rake, driving a pattern causing loose gravel from being packed into the roads' surface, for that freshly raked Zen garden beauty, , ,
Yes, a fresh unstable riding surface, proudly presented, for all the two wheelers here.

Plan "A"
Find a used double wide, in the golf park, Pine Shadows, old farm house in town, small ranchette in the sticks, I'm open to anywhere good in Verde Valley. Rich widow in Sedona?
Elevated view from Jerome?

So, now I get to hunt for my new home, with my credit locked up, and two years left on my SD license, before I commit to Az. taxes.

Fire danger, is on top. Pine Shadows is nestled into rolling slope with dry washes, thick manzanita, it would go quick in a big Ca. type fire.
Lots of housing built in washes, dry being the key. Mud flows from monsoon, over burn scars, has hammered Flag, finally have a handle on this, spent $$$$$$$$
That potential disaster, fire, then mud, with a house with no wheels, bugs me a bit.

My SIL had a similar view from her house in Cottonwood.

"Cottonwood, not even a great place to visit."

Jerome is cool though.

It always surprises me when I find out an adult can't swim. I get that its a privilege to have access to a pool or swim lessons or even a body of water to learn to swim in.

True fact: When my relatives graduated PSU in the 70's, being able to swim was still a requirement. My google foo indicates that some Universities still have the requirement.
