TILT customs group buy/FREE trackday

I really wanted to support this business, and met Daniel in person at one point to try out a suit that had been returned for size issues. Didn't fit, but seemed very solid and well built for the price point. Unfortunately, with the sketchy history he's developed here, it's doubtful that I will be gambling any of my money ordering a suit from Tilt.

Daniel, I'm sure you know this already, but as a small business owner myself, let me tell you that your operation will live or die based foremost on your customer service. Your product is good, but you need to respond to the people.

Hey dude, thanks for the advice.

But guys, I have not gone anywhere. Havent been on the boards in quite some time though.

Jared, we have spoke and are working out your issues as I type this.

Tim, Just sent you an email a couple hours ago.

John, I send emails and they go unanswered. PM me your phone number and I will call you.

FXCLMS, sorry dude but I talk with a lot of people every week. PM your info and will see to it why your BP was never sent to you.

In defense of the TILT brand, we had a small roadbump at the end of the year last year but are in a better position now as we move forward. To the 4 above, lets talk and get this squared away. We are hear to stay and nobody is ignoring anyone.

Thanks!

Daniel

I've got nothing after March 20. Maybe someone's email provider thinks someone else's is spam.

Again, I've never assumed any sort of malice from Dan. Life happens and people have to prioritize. I've never gotten any impression from him that he had even the remotest notion of trying to screw anyone over or avoid anyone.

Anyhow, Dan, here is my original sketch. Quite a bit different than what I got.

met up with dan....got my back protector, he's exchanging my gloves...

we went over the fit of my suit and decided the fit is pretty good and matches how other off the shelf suits would fit. there were a couple things that could be better and daniel has someone that could fix those issues if they bother me...

give him a call if you still have issues with your suit or getting it

I have been holding off on writing anything publicly for a LONG time concerning Daniel and Tilt Customs, but everyone no matter how patient has limits, and mine have been crossed many times over in my dealings with Daniel.

I my experience, customer service and communications are excellent up until the point of sale. Everything after that is absolutely pulling teeth. If you are lucky and everything fits and works well with your order, everything is fine, but once problems arise, it becomes difficult if not impossible to reach Daniel and get timely updates on resolutions. I understand that in a bad economy, many small businesses are not running at full capacity, and personal situations do come up from time to time, but the good business operators do NOT allow that to spill over to their customers. At this point in time, the combined package of business, personal dramas, and financial stability as it concerns Daniel and Tilt Customs have resulted in extremely unreliable service.

My story in a nutshell:

2/20/09 order is placed for new suit (measurements by Daniel)
3/30/09 suit is delivered (does not fit - inseam problems)

5/5/09 measured for replacement suit by Daniel
8/14/09 2nd attempt fails. . . same fit issues, colors have been changed on the suite without my knowledge.

New measurements are submitted to Daniel (mine) with understanding that if the next iteration is built to my spec and still does not fit, it is on me.

No word from Daniel for months. . . 2-3 group purchases happen in the interim with suits selling at ~50% of the price I paid for mine.

11/15/09 contact is made with Daniel after repeated attempts inquiring about timeframe for the replacement suit. The order had not been placed yet.

12/11/09 after repeated attempts to contact Daniel and threat of legal action, a mutually agreed upon partial refund amount is settled on. I offer to spread payment of the refund out over a 4 month period as a courtesy to Daniel.

4/15/10 scheduled date for final payment of refund. Reminders of payment dates have been ignored. Initial refund payment was never delivered. Subsequent refund payments when made were only 50% of the agreed amounts.

As of right now, Daniel is has yet to pay the refund amount agreed upon, and is not responsive communications.

i would characterize my experience with Tilt Custom as one of the worst transactions I've ever had with any business. I have given Daniel every courtesy and chance to make good on his product and his customer service, and he has ignored me at every turn.

My story is not an isolated one. I have done everything I can in private to resolve this issue, but feel at this point it is important for potential future customers to know about my experience with Tilt Custom Leathers.

I had the same fitment issue with my suit. Couldn't stretch my legs out because the crotch area was too tight. Daniel recommended someone to help with the alteration. Ended up being someone out in Lafayette who specialized in leather boots for horseback riding. Spoke to her on the phone and she sounded great but I was hoping for someone who really knew how to alter motorcycle suits. I ended up going to Johnson's Leather in the city. They took a look at the suit and knew exactly what the problem was. The owner did a few measurements and explained how they were going to add material in the crotch area in several places. Got my suit back in a week and it fits so much better now. I'll be testing it out at the track in September. Charged $150 which I thought was fair otherwise the suit would be useless to me. I'm not even going to bother asking Daniel to help with the cost. I highly recommend going to Johnson's Leather to help with any other fitment issues.

Chunger,

Sorry to hear about your experience -- I think you've gone out of your way to be understanding of Daniel's situation at your own expense. Hopefully now that you're making the issue public, you might have better luck in getting resolution. I'm sure Daniel will be coming on the forum soon to give a "Hey, let's get this resolved, email me :thumbup" response, which seems to be his thing.

Looks like he had another group buy this year: http://sacridersforum.com/showthread.php?t=4359.

Hopefully your experience will serve to prevent others from getting themselves in a similar situation. It's like you said -- if you're lucky and the order is made correctly the first time, you'll probably love the suit; if you have the bad luck of a suit made incorrectly, then you'll be struggling to get response from Daniel. This seemed to be the case based on the 'TILT Custom Leather suit reviews' thread, which has since been taken down. According to the email notification I got re: the thread, the thread was requested closed by the OP, which was Tilt Customs.

I had a similar experience with Daniel with having to call & email him continually week over week with little response. My suit was made incorrectly with the crotch being about 4 inches lower than it should have been, making it barely possible to swing my leg over the bike. I'm grateful to have gotten a refund from him simply not to have to deal with the bullshit anymore.

Good luck.
