Tyre Nichols. Rest in Peace.

Looks like lots of people want to help...

The bravery and strength of Tyre’s mom at this time is extraordinary. May she feel the support of others for her.

I just read an article in the guardian. My boy is in his 20s. I’d be devastated in her position. I wish I could give her her old life back. What a painful and public way to grieve.

:rose Tyre

When I came in from morning DoG :jaded duties this AM my wife had a blank stair standing in the family room. I looked back and she was watching the TV version of the beating.

She busted out crying and of coursed addressed the feeling as a mother.

Her "That Mother will own that town" stuck.

Really tragic. :rose

The one who said “baton the fuck outta you” seemingly because he was pissed off from being out of shape and had to take a breather….JFC. Just bury that guy under the jail.

Yeah. I think he was also mad that he got some pepper spray in the face when they were spraying him. So he wanted to take it out on Tyre.

In before excited delirium

Naw. This was NOT excited delirium. I'd hope you could tell the difference. This was a straight up beating. Probably 2nd degree murder for the 5 they charged.

The article I read in the guardian said this is what they’d been charged with.

If I missed the thread on this, apologies. Didn't see one yet.

Videos released earlier today on the beating death of Tyre Nichols be Memphis, TN police officers. The 4th video has just been released tonight. It has no violence, but (to me), is the worst of the series.

It's been a long time since I've felt as sick watching a video online, but the series of events, beatings, kicks, strikes, and primal violence is stomach churning. Very sickening stuff. I spoke to a good friend in the industry who was sickened as well and commented "this is absolutely not the way to control someone when you've got 6 guys against one. They were taking their turns beating him because they wanted to". That confirmed my thoughts earlier watching.

There's not much to say after watching those videos other than, justice best be swift and sure. This one's easy. Still no answers on what the reasons for the initial stop were nor why the need for such extreme and uncontrolled violence. These videos show Memphis officers ending someone's life on the street for absolutely no reason and then, laughing and celebrating.

Fucking sick. This better result in incarceration until death for all officers involved in the damage to Tyre Nichols. There's no more to feel but intense anger and sorrow. The feelings are indescribable watching those videos and then sitting silent. No human deserves this...not even those who did this.

It is real bad. Yet still people want to deny that the Black Panthers need the secured Civil Rights granting them the ability to return.

It is unfortunate.

Everyone have the courage to WATCH THE VIDEO, just as Emmitt Till's mother had the courage to have an an open casket funeral to show evil at work.

Watch this man get Soccer kicked, bludgeoned, and dumped on the side of a patrol car in a heap and LEFT TO DIE. This is worse than Rodney King.

This is what happens when LEOs go rogue and unchecked (i.e. the Atlanta RED DOGS, Oakland Riders, and Rampart Division in LA), this isn't a race issue.

Its an US AGAINST THEM attitude that has taken over law enforcement, those guys were frothing at the mouth (pissed off because they pepper sprayed themselves), they even brag about the haymakers thrown at the end this was a GANG BEAT DOWN.

Charge every officer involved, FIRE THE CHIEF (Who was FIRED from her previous LEO position in Atlanta), and Scrub the fucking department.

DWB.

Other news articles said a check from traffic cams and such in the area showed 0 signs of anything reckless. I think I saw one (my memory may be faulty here) where one of the statements from the officers was he "fit the profile" of what they were looking for in the area.

This figures.

Also, I wanted to thank you for writing your descriptions of the vids in the other thread. I haven't watched it, and I am happy I didn't. It made me sick just reading it.

I fully agree. It was hard to continue watching the videos, but they changed what my perception of how the murder came about and was perpetrated. Changed for the worse that I can't unsee. Which while something I'd like to forget, will have a permanent effect. Without a crime codified for the stop to begin with, this murder comes home to everyone in the United States. Everyone.

I understand not wanting to watch the video. Being uncomfortable and not knowing how to sort one's feelings after watching the videos is what foments anger and action, IMO. A transcript doesn't come close. My best resolve is to put cameras on all the places I can, which is many. I hope they have an effect. I also wrote a letter to the Memphis city Council asking what their plans were for their department, in the guise as a new resident moving to Memphis. I don't feel watching the direction this murder will take is active enough. Not anymore.

That's the best I can think of. Chairman's address is below.

It was like they were doing a tag team sport beating that guy. I still don't know why he was even pulled over.

Me neither and that really bugs. I don't believe they'll ever show the initial stop footage. There's critical pieces were missing, IMO.

We let cops beat people senseless with zero repercussions for a few decades and this is the natural result.

"COMPLY!" the idiots scream, thinking that's the problem.
"DON'T DO ILLEGAL SHIT" the racists yell, blaming the victim.
"DON'T MAKE SUDDEN MOVEMENTS!"
"DON'T DO THIS! DON'T DO THAT! "

It's the fucking system that allows pigs to use violence as a punishment, and the fucking boot lockers that simp for them.

Mad about me saying pigs? Too fucking bad.

I think it's pretty telling that in this case even all the people usually on the fence / in the middle, let alone outright supporters of police actions, are condemning this one nigh-unanimously.

You're welcome. Like I said...I've had my fair share of brutal videos that I've watched. I've seen stuff in person on deployments. Smelled it. Etc. And I had / have no particular desire to experience further of the same...especially when there's not even the thinnest veneer of justification (combat, insurgency, cartel members killing rivals, etc).

With all due respect, so fucking what.

After (seemingly) every incident of the police killing (or just beating) someone, defenders say "They should or shouldn't have done this or that" as an excuse of why the police were justified in killing (or just beating) someone.
Then another police killing (or just beating) happens where those excuses are proven to be bullshit so more reasons are given why the police were justified in killing (or just beating) someone.

And now we have a choice of camera angles to watch cops beat someone to death who literally did nothing wrong.
And then fist bumped each other with chests puffed up.

Tyre did everything right and those fucking pigs beat him to death knowing there were pole cams knowing they were wearing bodycams and knowing they were in a group of other cops and paramedics. They beat him because that is accepted practice.

Ha didn't commit a crime.
He pulled over.
He didn't try to run.
He didn't physically resist arrest.
He didn't make sudden movements.
He wasn't a legal gun owner exercising his second amendment rights.
He followed instructions to the best of anyone's ability.

This violence perpetrated on citizens by police "in fear for their lives" is accepted behavior so honestly it matters very little that most people watch a video of four thugs beating someone to death and agree that it shouldn't have happened.

All you're doing is muddying the waters here. I get that you're mad. You should be. I'm mad with this one.

Not that any of the following justifies the beating/murder he got, but let's at least get the facts straight.

He is alleged to have committed the crime of reckless driving. Given how this has unfolded, the department needs to prove if that's really true, as we don't have video of this. If false, it was an illegal stop from the get go, but we just don't know this yet.

He did, actually run away and resist at first. Again, not suggesting his actions came anywhere close to justifying the beat down murder, because they did not.

You are muddying the water by conflating that this beat down murder was the same as all the other uses of force where, I for one, might have argued was justified. You may not care, but that is a completely disingenuous argument that lacks evidence and does not further your position. It weakens your position, as you are arguing from a place of raw emotion and not logic, without the application of case law or statutory law, etc.

All of those things you wrote in your last post are, in fact, the best pieces of advice to remain on the correct side of the law, and avoid a physical confrontation with police. They will almost always work, and if they don't, like in this case, we'll the reason is because it was a straight up illegal excessive force beating/murder from those officers. I am glad they are being held accountable and I'm fairly certain they will be convicted of felonies and serve time in prison for this. That does not negate the good advice about complying, not doing illegwl shit, and not making sudden movements.
