VW "Clean" Diesel not really clean

Latest news, VW has asked German prosecutors to open a criminal investigation into the employees responsible for the cheat software. Sounds like some senior execs really want to keep their jobs.

And in other news, 29 States attorney generals have already opened investigations in the U.S.

Oooooh, interesting. :Popcorn

Somebody's trying to time the arrival of that bus, and get somebody else thrown under it at just the right moment.

Winterkorn could walk away with between $30-60M.
I'd take that over going to jail.

Seems to be status quo for a disgraced CEO of a big company.

Mark Hurd pretty much let HP stagnate and get crushed by Apple with the iPad, despite acquiring Palm and being in a position to rule the handheld computer market. He also got caught using his company expense account to pretty much get laid and has a sexual harassment lawsuit brewing. Yup....$50M golden parachute. And even better? His "bro" Ellison gives him a bullshit job to make a shitload of money doing nothing for Oracle.

:rofl

I see you understand how this all works :laughing

Lean burn was mentioned before. My year 2000 Honda Insight has a lean burn mode. During low load and rpm the engine will go into lean burn mode and instant MPG will go up to 100 MPG cruising smooth and steady on flat ground. That's around 55 MPH.

The air fuel ratio will go as high as 22:1. A special exhaust system is required and periodically the car has to exit lean burn mode to take care of NOx.

The car is SULEV emissions rated, but I don't think more modern emission standards will allow lean-burn.

Fuck VW stock, I'd be looking into buying an actual VW. Wonder if the dealerships are practically giving away the models they're allowed to sell?

Test drove some used BMWs yesterday. Salesman told us they can't take any 2.0 tdi cars in for trade. Owners are kinds of hamstrung currently.

Lol even if they did take it you'd probably be insulted at the number. Why even ask?

For sure. I was joking about taking it in as a trade and he gave the X devil sign hand gesture, he was :laughing and I was :nchantr

Said ZERO dealers are excepting them. They are like lepers really. Dealers arent touching them until VW comes out with they solution/fix.

My 2013 tdi reg renewal is due and dmv told me I have to have it smogged for the first time this year to renew. I guess I should have done that 2 weeks ago when I got the notice. This will be interesting now.

Sub'd because this snafu is too much to pass.

August, wishing you the best!

The real question is what is carb and the epa going to do to everyone to 'prevent this from happening again'

For as long as the EPA is the unfunded "evil job/business killing machine", there's very, very little the EPA can do.

Well, reason for that is because its run by people who can't make it in the real world.
failure on all counts in the financial or engineering world. these are the ones that can't invent to save their live and have to "test" other companies.

its whoever pays the most get the expected testing result. been like that forever and will never change. just under the cover of clean environment.

who really cares about NOx, until 5 days ago the majority in the sink never heard about that term and all of a sudden people are experts in emission after treatment:laughing
