VW "Clean" Diesel not really clean

Interesting :thumbup but you are assuming that the attorneys came up with the idea for the suit in the first place. What percentage of the time does that happen? I kinda doubt it's the majority.

I have never had a client call me up and tell me that he has a lawsuit and this is how we will proceed.

Clients call up and say this is how I have been injured and this is person/company that harmed me, I would like to hold them responsible, how do we do that? Then I decide if there is claim and tell them how we should proceed.

As for who comes up with the idea first, yes you need a client that has been harmed but generally speaking they do nothing in the case. They might have to answer some questions (discovery) or give a deposition, but all the work is done by the attorney not the client.

There is no set formula. The court must approve the settlement and attorney fees and the judge will review all the costs spend and the outcome and numbers get adjusted. Sometimes it is hourly and sometimes it a percentage, just depends on the case. Same the plaintiffs. Not everyone in a class action that is named plaintiff gets the same amount, depends on a lot of factors.

I am talking about the guy who originally approached the law firm with his complaint, his evidence or story, and his idea for the class action. Without him, you wouldn't have anything. He's called the "class representative" or something, right? I think he deserves more than a petty $20K or whatever, which is what I've seen from a few proposed settlements.

Hell I bet there are firm wide lawsuits going out..."who's got a VW TDI? Comw to my office right away".
Being a class representative isn't squat.

How many class action suits can there be? I got on the email of one. Not sure but I think there are a few.

The real question is what do us TDI owners do in the mean time?!?

My 2013 tdi reg renewal is due and dmv told me I have to have it smogged for the first time this year to renew. I guess I should have done that 2 weeks ago when I got the notice. This will be interesting now.

It's only a visual test. Technically you've got nothing to worry about assuming you haven't modified anything.

No 6 yr exemption for new diesels?

Latest news, VW has asked German prosecutors to open a criminal investigation into the employees responsible for the cheat software. Sounds like some senior execs really want to keep their jobs.

And in other news, 29 States attorney generals have already opened investigations in the U.S.
