weed and work

I guess I'm the only bastard who was in the gym at 6:30am, stoned off my rocker on the stairmaster. Then did chest, shoulders and, tri's. Then went home, showered, took a bong rip and, now I'm at work lazy and incapable of wiping my own butt...:mad

what if there is not a drop in work performance but the worker is tokin?

case in point, i know several fiends that maintain very well. One dude is a very successful lawyer (out of stanford law), a different one made it out of MIT in 3.5 years; then right out started working in a completely unrelated field at ~75k/yr. both of them are upstanding guys, good morals, wouldn't steal from work, etc.

I'm not sayin MIT / Stanford is anything special (roll on you bears!), but these guys are smart and take care of their business. and they are total potheads. thoughts?

It's not a one size fits all rule.

Some people aren't fit mentaly to even breath let alone interact with society stoned.

at my job, they don't do drug tests. (which is weird cause its a skilled labor job). so i took advantage, and started smoking weed again. not a lot (never really did a lot) but maybe 3-4 hits 3 times a week. and i was thinking today about other jobs i had that checked for drugs once a month. and i was thinking, i NEVER went to work high or buzzed (and i have no sympathy for those who do and get canned) so why care what i do recreationaly? if i had an employee who came to work everyday, was a good employee, then why would i care?

im not talking about hard drugs (which most drug tests dont test for), im talkin about weed, bud, ghanga, stank, reefer, mary jane, dank, blueberry yumm yumm. why care if someone at home smokes some, gets high at home, and comes in work sober and ready to go? does anyone else here smoke/work? if so how much? why do YOU think its ok to smoke on your off time? discuss

edit, i was NOT high at the time of this publiction

What kind of skilled labor do you do? I want to know so I can steer clear of the product or service your company represents. :rolleyes

I used to be a pot head. Smoked everyday, several times a day. Have a fat bong hit before walking to work. Go home at lunch and have another. And it was a social thing too. Majority of my friends smoked. My life revolved around smoking pot.

But what I figured out after years of doing this, that the best I would feel all day was just after that first bong hit in the morning. The rest of the day I was a lethargic blob trying to maintain the buzz. I remember the days when I thought that I would never be without smoking pot.

I don't know what changed for me, probably a combination of factors. $100 bucks a week in weed, getting into a relationship where the boyfriend does not smoke it. I noticed that I was feeling better when not stoned. I guess I just grew out of it. Did my performance at work change? I'd have to say yes, I am more productive at the office when not stoned.

I didn't smoke pot for several years, then last summer at the lake, they are passing around a joint, I took a hit off of it and it made me puke.:green

Totally lost my desire to smoke pot.

I know lots of people that are recreational pot smokers. Does not bother me. If you are an office jockey (like me), sitting at a desk, etc. I see no harm it in. If it gets you through the day, so be it.

However if you are working 30 feet up in the air on a lift, climbing up and down ladders, using power tools, I would say the risk involved with being stoned in that environment is an accident waiting to happen.

Another thing I've noticed as I'm getting older, is the same friends that I smoked with habitually back in the day, now have children and smoke it in front of the kids. I'm not so cool with smoking it in front of the kids. But to each their own.

like i stated earlier, my work performance is great. so is my attendance and state of mind. and also like i said i take 3-4 hits 3 times a week TOPS. i would never go t work stoned, or even drive stoned. im not trying to break laws(like stealing etc.) i just like t hang out, work on my car, and smoke once in a while. i dont work unsafe or anything like that. i just feel that what someone does AT HOME is their choice. and as long as your cool at work, you dont hurt anyone/yourself, and do your job well with good attendance then no harm no foul

I don't really see the difference between you smoking a little and you drinking a little... but I don't smoke much because I'm not much of a fan of weed.

Says a junkie

hehehe sorry couldnt resist

I smoke weed, and I've been high at work maybe twice. Let me tell you those two hours were the most productive I've ever been!!!! :smoking

I think I'm a little different then what most of you are talking about. I grew up smoking and skating ramps. I could walk a coping blindfolded and still can. I love to get high and go mtn biking. So the tired unreactive stereotype doesn't fit there. I don't pay for it so no complaints there. I do not feel its illegal because I;m a proponent to legalize it and a member of Norml. I was part of a medical weed study and other than a rise in blood pressure the Doc's really couldn't say anything except they've never seen anyone with my lung capacity(bong rips). And, as far as xrays are concerned, no lung spots and I'm in my 40's having not taking more than a 3 day brake(hospitalized) in the last, shitems, 25 years. Although the major downside is, I cannot find anyone to smoke with anymore. Went to Ozzfest. I was the only one in my crew who still can. So ,I may quit out of boredom if they ever illegalize video games.

I know a couple of people who are "functional smokers". they take a couple of hits each day before work like I drink a couple of cups of coffee each morning. They seem perfectly fine to me (to be honest though, i don't think i've ever seen these guys NOT high so I have no idea how they act when they aren't stoned :p).

my building doesn't test at all, either and I work for the federal government (no I don't smoke... the most i've done is gotten a wee bit too tipsy during office parties at a bar or restaurant)

Westie = Pickles??

I grew up smoking government weed every day you know, I had kiddie glaucoma. Don’t ask me, I’m immune to just about everything.

Sober - I'm often too intense and too quick. Way ahead of myself and everyone around me.

I've found in the past, that smoking weed would bring back down to the normal level - where I could finally be in sync with everyone else in society. Slowed me down enough for me to talk normal, not get frustrated by how slow everyone else is, etc.

But all that went out the window with the baby.

I'd be willing to smoke again - on a rare occasion if it was ripper weed and the baby is asleep and I know for a fact that the next 8 hours will be uneventful. <- maybe once a year or so on a camping trip? Hasn't happened yet.

My only comment would be this: you know smoking is illegal and you've decided this law does not apply to you. This lends to your morals. If you don't think this law applies to you the maybe you won't think other laws and rules apply to you such as stealing from your employer. showing up on time and returning from lunch on time. Showing respect for coworkers and your employer. And so on....

Just playing devils advo here BTW. Not making any judgements on you. Just say those are judgements the employers might make of you.

For some people, it's less than illegal - those with a medical pot card (I don't have one, but I know people that do). A friend was at a club, and a cop came in to chum around with the guys that work there! My buddy said it was the most sureal experience he's had in a long time! Buying pot, with a cop standing next to him at the counter! That's how illegal it is.:laughing Now, you can argue that it's still against federal law, but the feds don't have the time to mess with individuals.

OP, you said that you wouldn't mind if your employees came to work baked.

From experience, at my restaurant I can tell when my employees are hi and trust me their productivity is wayyy low, they are chatting about stupid shit and just goofing off. I konw it's just a restaurant, but when you are paying them by the hour to work for you, I expect them to work their ass.

chotu, apparently reading comprehension owns you. i never said that. i said tha if they get high at home, i dont care. as long as they come in sober and do their job right, and work diligently

What was it laced with? :laughing

:wtf

What's your job, taste tester for Keebler?

Hahahaha it wasnt laced with anything and :rofl

I was just soo paranoid that my boss would notice that Im just staring at my computer screen, which I do anyways but I was so paranoid that I was just doing a lot of work and I was mighty productive.

It's really up to the employer to do drug screening or not. Somebody can't get baked every night and expect to be on their "A" game during the day. They are fooling themselves if they think so. I smoked pot all day at work for over 4 years. I might have been relaxed but I wasn't as focused as sober. It took months away from weed to get real clarity and realize how slow I was.

I am all for legalizing pot. I wish they had a test to measure impairment. AFAIK they don't have one yet. It would provide a baseline for DUI enforcement and workplace enforcement. IMO it would also open the door to make it legal.

i know you're just playing devil's advocate, and that many employers probably DO think this way, but i still have to strongly disagree. disobeying marijuana prohibition is not immoral, the law itself is immoral. most people do not think there is anything wrong with smoking pot, and yet they would never think of stealing from an employer or doing anything that actually harms another person.

drug screening for most jobs is bullshit. people say "pot makes you lazy", etc., well if your worker is lazy fire them for being lazy! most people who smoke, just like most people who drink, do not let it negatively effect their job performance.

what you do on the weekend is your business. unless you're a surgeon or a pilot or in some position where you need to be at 100% for the sake of people's safety, drug screening is bullshit.
