What are your favorite Motorcycle movies?

mad-max-japanese-dvd-cover.jpg

I was 11 yrs old when Mad Max came out in Japan. I watched it in the theater with my friends - we rode there on our BMX bikes. It was my absolute favorite movie then as a kid... seeing all the highschool kids ride to school on their CBs and KZs. This was the movie that propelled me into my moto madness... I still love it today. In fact, I watched it this weekend On Demand at home.

Mad Max just resonates in my memory and brings me back in time...

Closer To The Edge, by Isle of Man Film/CinemaNX, starring Guy Martin, Ian Hutchinson, et al.

Only good thing biker boyz had going for it was that fine ass black girl. I don't even remember what she looks like, I just remember being blown away by her ass/general fineness.

Gabrielle Union. I agree she's hot and agree about the movie too. Iv'e never seen the wild
ones with Marlon Brando but I haven't seen it mentioned yet.

What is wrong with you people who haven't seen On Any Sunday? Go, watch it now. It is the best one. There are lots of others that are good but I have honestly never heard a motorcyclist say they did not like On Any Sunday. Ever. EVER.

You don't have your own copy on DVD?

Dust to Glory is great, but it's not 100% moto, but the moto scenes are amazing. Also it's very staged at times, but only noticable after repeated viewings. :)

Closer to the Edge was great, I wish they'd get a US distributor for the Bluray.

I haven't seen "Charge" mentioned yet, and I urge you all to check it out, it's on netflix. It's about electric bikes at the TT, and it's a great documentary about the TT itself, and the electric bikes, and it's kind of a good sequel to the discovery HD special on MotoCzysz a few years ago. Great documentary.

On Any Sunday is great, I can't wait for Dana Brown's updated version.

I want to see the Dunlop movie about their family and the TT, I saw a trailer but haven't heard anything about it - is it on bluray yet here, or online anywhere?

"Why We Ride" gets an "A for Effort", but it's not really a good documentary / movie. if you already ride you won't find anything new or interesting, and it seems to bore a lot of non-riders. A good riding movie should be exciting and interesting for non-riders and riders alike. I have high hopes the new On Any Sunday will fulfill this.

Now I need to check out Little Fauss and Big Halsey.

Torque is probably the best of sport bike movies, which is really saying how few motorcycle movies there are.

I think about the amazing thrill riding a motorcycle, from lanesplitting to taking the curves to the high speeds.

It is difficult to convey the excitement and danger on film. The final chase in Torque was done entirely on the computer, and it was so unrealistic it was boring.

Probably the best sport bike scene is still Matrix Reloaded. It is the most accurate rendition of lanesplitting I've seen.

When I saw the stunt rider doing trials maneuvers, particularly scaling a 10 foot wall, I was the only one in the theater cheering.

But without a doubt, the greatest scene in motorcycle movies is Akira. The soundtrack, the riding, the mayhem. Just the best.

"Little Fauss and Big Halsey" is good for what they portrayed and where they portrayed it at. In terms of a movie, it's hard to beat "Worlds Fastest Indian"

Those are the only two high budget motorcycle racing movies that I know of. The rest are documentries, of which, Bruce Brown seems to have set the standard.

I'd love to see a movie on women racers... maybe something along the lines of what was done for Top Fuel Dragster driver Shirley Muldowney in "Heart Like a Wheel"... something with a back story... i.e. Worlds Fastest Indian...

Scarlett Johansson as Shayna Texter, Jennifer Lawrence as Elana Meyers and Sandra Bullock as Angelle Sampey

...any other actor / rider suggestions?

C.C and Company

Seriously, loved World's Fastest Indian; Doctor, Tornado, etc.; and both of the Long Way movies. On Any Sunday is also pretty awesome.

+1.000,000 for Akira.

One of the greatest works of animation ever produced.

Anyone remember "Silver Dream Racer" with David Essex and Beau Bridges?

odd film fact:

the motorcycle's square-4 2-stroke engine was the basis for the very first Buell.....

What no love for, "Purple Rain?" :D

I think this what I have in the moto-movie-binder:
Akira
Baja 1000
Biker Boyz (2003)
C.C. (Ryder) and Company (1970)
Cool As Ice - it counts!
Dust To Glory (2005)
Easy Rider (1969)
Evil Knievel (1971)
Faster/Fastest
Ghost Rider (2007)
Ghost Rider II (2012)
Girl On A Motorcycle (1968)
The Great Escape
Hot Rod
Long Way Around (2004)
Motocrossed
Motorcycle Diaries
On Any Sunday (1971)
Rad (1986) - BMX but close enough
Roadside Prophets (1992)
Silver Dream Racer
Supercrossed
Torque (2004)
Viva Knievel
Wild Hogs
The Wild One
Worlds Fastest Indian

These are some that got into the motorcycle binder because a main character rides or there is a motorcycle chase scene:
Bourne Legacy, Deep Impact, Dirty Harry 2, Gone in 60 seconds (remake), The Good, The Bad, The Weird; Heathers, Idle Hands, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Iron Eagle, Kick Ass 2, Knight and Day, Legend of Billie Jean, Lost Boys, Mad Max, Mask, Matrix Reloaded, The Mechanic, Mission: Impossible 2, Mystery Men, The New Guy, Purple Rain, Rambo: First Blood, Terminator 2, Resident Evil Extinction, Skyfall, Tomb Raider, Tron, Tron Legacy, XXX, Yes Man

Wild Angels. Roger Corman classic with Peter Fonda, Nancy Sinatra, Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd. Has a great speech by Peter Fonda at a funeral-"We want to be free to do what we want do and get loaded...."
