Shot from a 50 foot tall cannon into the desert surrounded by select family and friends?

I didn't know who Hunter Thompson was/is, but in searching for background found this really interesting article on past famous MC riders.

The thing about Hunter is he is known as a motorcyclist but I can't help think he was probably a pretty shitty rider.
A big fan and outer fringes ambassador certainly, but I suspect he was too wasted to develop any kind of a skill set.
The dude sure was good theater though.

name a journalist that blows your socks off with how skilled they are at anything else.

Song of the Sausage Creature

What makes me laugh though is that a 900SS is a slow, boring machine by modern standards. Suitable for a new rider, probably!

Yes, as splained by Thompson:

"The Ducati people in New Jersey had opted, for some reasons of their own, to send me the 900ss-sp for testing - rather than their 916 crazy-fast, state-of-the-art superbike track-racer. It was far too fast, they said - and prohibitively expensive - to farm out for testing to a gang of half-mad Colorado cowboys who think they're world-class Cafe Racers."

"Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and "Hell's Angels" are must reading.
