Where is Hunter Thompson?

[edited].....He did some crazy political reporting around Nixon.....

^^this^^ - in an age of Trump & Hillary, I'm quite deliberately calibrating:

-- reading "Fear & Loathing on the Campaign Trail"

-- listening often to The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again" & "Eminence Front"

That thing will outrun an F-111 until takeoff.

"Can we handle that much torque ?"

"We're with the factory team"

Hells Angels ending with Thompson crashing on a highway in the middle of nowhere, at dawn, and having to get to a hospital to stop the bleeding. Now that is motorcycling. And a great, short read.

I don't think there is an acceptable decade to be born in and not know HST. I just caught the '90s and use to adore him in back in high school.

If you like standard HST shenanigans and the workings of our political machine (as well as liberal politics I suppose, "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail in '72" is a good, fast read. Gets a little wacked out towards the end tho..

Oh, and Johnny Dep is Hunter S Thompson.

Before HST did what he always promised he would do, I believe they were very close to eachother.

He did a decent job as him in The Rum Diaries too

Song of the Sausage Creature

What makes me laugh though is that a 900SS is a slow, boring machine by modern standards. Suitable for a new rider, probably!

25 years later, the 900 SS SP is still as light as and at least as good handling as any sport bike you can buy now.

The only place it would fall short would be peak HP for the fast-in-a-straight-line types... and of course no electronics for those people with who need TC to keep from falling off their bikes

I agree. If you find a 900SS to be boring, I'd check the nut behind the handlebars. You're doing it wrong.

A good rider on a well running and set up 900ss gives up nothing much to more modern steel. Used to ride with a guy who had one. Absolute beast.

Yup.
One day I will get a Superlight, love how they look.:thumbup

I thought he was in the dirt by now.

Right around here somewhere....

But officially...
Burial:
Cremated, Ashes scattered.
Specifically: Ashes scattered at his Owl Farm estate in Woody Creek, Colorado

I seem to recall something about his ashes being shot out of a cannon at his memorial "service", attended by friends.

Because nobody under 60 can read ???

Mostly because all the really interesting drugs were just fakes after about 74 or so....
Fake Quaaludes, fake Seconal, Nembutal.....even D-lysergic acid diethylamide tartrate 025 and N-Dimethyltryptamine were bogus....

Not a complaint, by the way. Such substances have not touched my lips since '88.

But here is my Senior class portrait from Oakland Tech, class of '70...

Ah, because you need to use drugs to be able to appreciate good writing. Got it.

At least you've explained What Bill Cosby has been up to for the past 41 years: "Do these 'Ludes taste funny to you ? "

I think you missed the point. But that's OK, maybe you had to have been there to appreciate it. Just like I don't get rap music, or gangsta culture, or most religious stuff.

Funniest scenes in Wolf of Wall Street are when they find the cache of "real" 'ludes.

That did capture the essence of that era...
Reminds me of a very liberal dentist I had back when I traveled back and forth across the country as part of my work. I was petrified of airliners, and he graciously prescribed as many Rohr440s as I needed to manage my significant anxiety.
The only problem was when they booked me on trips with multiple stops. Even in those days it wasn't cool to stagger around airports.
