"Offending Yamaha Dealer"

Dan -

I'm sure everyone here would echo my words in saying thank you for taking quick action. We know and understand that you did not have any knowledge or control of the AM show's content.

However, I would urge you to pull your advertising dollars unless the hosts go beyond a simple and quick on air apology. The damage done will not be unwound in such a fashion.

The radio show should -

1. Take the hosts responsible off the air permanently

2. Devote their next morning show to the legality and benefits of lane sharing while commuting on a motorcycle

3. Provide significant airtime each morning promoting rider awareness including lane sharing during the commute hours

A simple on air apology will not suffice. It takes far more counter act the stupidity of their publicity this morning.

While we dont hold you and your company responsible for the content of today's show, it would look poor if your company continued to support 105 without the station taking significant actions in support of and the promotion of rider awareness.

I believe that everyone here who commutes on a daily basis like myself would agree.

Thank you,

CJ

Interesting....

...Hope those who listened in their cages today, have it tuned in tomorrow.

Would be nice if said tomorrow is..."If you see a motorcyclist coming up your lane, try to give them some room".

Kudos to the Yami dealer on addressing this mess he had no control over....until now.

Also, kudo's to those BARFers that mailed/emailed/called DEAD 105.

I have no mojo! :cry

I do think that the radio station owes more than an apology to the Bay area MC community. Air time to properly discuss the lane sharing issue would be a good start.

Live 105 should promote ride to work day , July19, and maybe provide some ongoing PSAs on motorcycle awareness.
maybe as a publisity stunt they could pay for an entire MSF class then put the governor in it.

I hope someone can, at the very least, put up a transcription of the apology. I'd very much like to see it as I've had 2 incidents in my short riding history where people in cars actually tried to run me off the road. So anything that can diffuse that kind of attitude has got me behind it 100%.

I also hope its a genuine "counter-message" as well that appeals to reason, since anyone who heard a controversial remark with a "sorry" the next day would be daft if they thought it was anything but a forced apology.

I'd find it hard to believe if that DJ didn't have at least a few close friends or even family that rode... Maybe he should think about that.

+1 on the apology being insufficient. The damage has been done. There needs to be a segment promoting co-existing with bikers safely at least.

Hi - I work at Bay Area Yamaha as a tech and I would like to convey a message from my General Manager regarding the radio fiasco of this morning (1/12/06)

"I would first like to take a moment to thank all of you for brining this to my attention. Obviously as an advertiser, I have no control over the creative content of a show. But, as an advertiser, I do have the ability, through our advertising dollars, to make sure that radio station listens to us. I would like all of you to rest assure that this matter is being dealt with in a rapid and serious manner. I have already had numerous conversations with both the general manager and the creative director for LIVE 105. If all of you aren't too sickened by what you've heard this morning, please tune into the morning show tomorrow to hear an on air apology from the DJs and LIVE 105. Obviously the DJs who began this controversy failed to understand the gravity of the suggestions they were making. Thank you again. If you have any further comments, please email them to danlebson@otdcyclesports.com" Dan Lebson, General Manager of Bay Area Yamaha.

Mr. Lebson,

First off, I think what you have done has got to be one of the most stand-up things I've seen in a long while. Most advertisers would not have gotten nearly involved.

Second, My buddy rides a 2002 R6 and is in the process of selling it to buy an 2006 R6. Of course I'll be sending him the link to this and encourage him to do business with you.

Third, Welcome to BARF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big kudos to Bay Area Yami for opening a quick can of whoopass on this. :thumbup

How fucking retarded does a DJ have to be to support killing motorcyclists right before he runs an ad for a local moto shop? If it weren't so frigging stupid, it'd be hilarious. :laughing

Good to see everybody sticking together here :thumbup

Props to Bay Area Yamaha :thumbup

I'm sure they are more outraged than any of us are.

Excellent!

Thank you Netta and Dan!

Very, very respectful and proactive response. Good way to keep existing customers loyal, and attract new ones. This is exactly the sort of response you _hope_ to get from companies these days, but so rarely do. WTG. Go out and have a beer or two after work today. Ya earned it!

Actually, Bay Area Yamaha should pull their advert until this moron is fired and prosecuted.
