"Offending Yamaha Dealer"

very sweet words, thanks... not sure if i always live up to them, but thank you. And thanks to you other BARFers who had nice things to say about me. ;)

as for Bay Area Yamaha --- where do i begin? are we great or are we un-great? i think the BEST statement i have read so far in ALL these posts is "I found it interesting how reality differs from most people's perceptions.”
and i will add, screw reality. the world is a barely functional set of perceptions. reality is beyond us all.

my 'reality' is that i ride everyday rain or shine. i am focused on motorcycles and motorcycling life. i am a ruthless lanesplitter. I stand by my own work and the work of my fellow tech, but I do not stand for everything at my dealership. there are only two motorcyclists working at the dealership – guess who – the techs. so clearly, there are different agendas. There are a million people out there - a million agendas and a million different perceptions of 'what is right'. I live by my perceptions, and others live by theirs.

I am not pleased by the radio clips I just heard. I’m sure I could fill pages with analysis of issues – loads of criticisms – judgments on others – blah blah blah. But in the end, it all comes down to what my agendas are – how I perceive life.

So – instead of sharing all my negative thoughts and “what a dingleberry dumbshit” thoughts, i’ll share some of the things I’d PREFER to hear on the radio: getting information to cagers- more from the legal angle, the economic/environmental/emotional benefits of motorcycles, encourage cagers to learn how to drive (i.e. gas on RIGHT brake on LEFT :p ) and tell them how they can be cool cagers when a bike goes blasting by, stand against cager's bitterness towards OUR freedom, convince cagers that they would be happier on a bike, talk to fellow motorbikers about better riding skills, and demonstrate that bikers are all kinds of people - chics, dudes and crudes and prudes. (see ‘millions’ comment above.) Cut the petty power-game (LIVE 105 vs. B.A.Y. vs BARF vs ________ fill in the blank) and talk about the shit that really matters to the motorcyclists!

i'm not the type to advertise my way onto the radio, campaign for legal action or tap dance for apologies. i keep to myself and enjoy it. a person doesn't have to be in the spotlight to make a difference. i am behind-the-scenes agent - i ride the ride and clench the wrench. That is my way of being NOT about sales, prices and advertising – NOT about publicity, tit-for-tat admissions of retardation and on-air apologies.

the curtain is closing on this radio drama – but the theater’s real stars were all sitting in the audience – the motorcyclists. Where were all THEIR lines?

I’m about freedom, acceleration and choices. I’ll choose my own line.

So – there is my snotty little 2cents. :teeth
See you out on the road.

well put:thumbup

Give Bay Area Yami a break. They've got a business to run so yeah, when they get some time on the radio sure they're going use it to advertise their store, I'm ok with that.

Dan didn't back down when it was clear the DJ wanted him to agree that the comments wern't meant to hurt anyone. Dan did make a big deal of making the other two losers on the show take back what they'd said, and he took a few nicely worded swipes at Woody saying that backpeddling and constantly mentioning the "I don't want anyone to get hurt" didn't undo the damage.

He maybe didn't come accross as the hard ass that one of us might have done, but he had to represent not only his business but Yamaha as a whole, so he he had to be carefull about what he said. He can't come across like a hard ass, becuase people don't want to try and buy a bike rom a guy who's a hardass.

Yeah maybe he could have been more agro, yes I'm sure many of us would have been, but he didn't let them off easy, he made sure all three of them took back what they said, he publicly told them that there were no excuses and that they were out of line. And not once did he say that the MC community took anything Woody said out of context. That's pretty good going for a regular guy thrown into this with less than 24 hours to prepare.

Everything you said above supports the point I was making... Bay area Yamaha was not the best representative for the motorcycling community because they are only in this to control the damage that Woody did to their company and to get some free advertising. We didn't need "a regular guy thrown into this"

If they put the community's interests ahead of their desire for more business they would have done one or more of the following:

1) Demanded continuous announcements which inform drivers that they should be more aware of motorcyclists

2) Put some one on the show who was not limited in their comments by their "having to represent their business and Yamaha as a whole" and could better represe nt the feelings of riders who heard these comments

3) Demanded the removal of "Woody"

4) Demanded that 105.3 send the DJs to the MSF class and saved their money for the next two complete noobs that they sell R1s to.

5) Refrained from making a sales pitch right in the middle of their segment

Holy crap. :wow

Beautiful. A motorcyclist. A mechanic. PLUS she's feisty, intelligent and articulate.

Note to all you guys (and girls) drooling over this one - there's no WAY a chick this cool is single.

Props, Netta, for a great attitude and reply.

I still say we make these DJs learn to ride and make them become positive spokespeople for motorcyclists. THAT is the best "revenge" and "pay-back" we can get upon them.

And if they don't, we strap them to the back of our bikes like Achillies and split lanes with them through rushour traffic ... Not that I want to see anyone get hurt or anything.

(ahem)

See you out on the road.

Ride on homegirl! You almost sound Alaskan LOL- we are all kinda like that up here- no matter who ya are.

Now, make sure someone gets back to me about that long sleeved T shirt or something- okay?

I don't get it.

When an organization/business took interest in a case for us, be on our side, yet they're still the bad people.

If I go there and talk to them. Would that mean I suddenly get free advertisement for my photography business?

Some of you in this thread need to appreciate what's coming your way instead of reading way too far between the lines.

Read what's on the line first. Be glad that there are 'big people' out there on our side still.

Yamaha was responsible in bringing the motogp to the US again... retrofiting Laguna SECA, brought it up to the standard.

Yes, there was a business interest there. The great opportunity, now that they're known to be the one who brought motogp back.

But so what? They do make good bikes. And don't we all prefer having a company that support our way of life?

I think what this dealership did is enforcing Yamaha's good brand. They're being good ambassadors so to speak. I don't think there's anything wrong in that.

If anytime someone try to do good things get questioned for ulterior motives, then less and less would do so.

You want to be politically correct, compain to those people who make Kraft cheese... I think they do cigarettes too.

As for Bay Area Yamaha. Good job. You've escalated this enough to make a good point out of it.

Now I hope we can take advantage and make the most of it.

I wrote the yami dealership an E-mail and asked to buy a long sleeved T shirt with thier name on it- so I can tell the story up here.

I hope they have a long sleeved shirt- it is a bit cold here still LOL

I agree with your points # 1, 2, and 5.
I feel that 3 is going over-board. (free speech) and 4 is a little too coercive. i'd certainly encourage people to take moto courses - but i don't think 'demanding' does much good unless one has the actual authority to enforce it. it'd be nice if the world wasn't full of looser cagers, but it is. i don't want to spend my time trying to convert a cockroach to a crotchrocket. encourage, yes. demand, no.

I just sent dan an email explaining why i WONT be spending a dime in his shop ( including the purchase of an R1), I would have happily made the drive had the ads been pulled( I would have even paid full pop for a company that cared), apparently don got his free advertising out of the deal, so hes gonna reward the assholes instead of fighting to have them shipped off to Des Moines, or anywhere else that will take them, No balls Don, My money is staying local..................

I still think Don showed a definite lack of balls, and my money is going elsewhere, He stepped up to the plate like a little leaguer at his first game, I have managed aviation companies in 5 states ans 2 US Territories, if I had shown Dons lack of balls I would have been gone overnight, w/o fanfare of any kind, He is fuckin pathetic, and I wouldnt want to be him, yes, I have moved around a bit in my career but I am extremely proud of My resume...............My money is placerville bound, and its your fault don, grow some..............
