"Offending Yamaha Dealer"

Oh she's a keeper type, she's hotter than you think, and she's sharp and intelligent, not to mention she's most likely better rider than most of us.

she's most likely better rider than most of us.

Damn, now I'll never catch her:laughing

I am going to Bay Area Yamaha today and spend some money!

I find this arrangement to be a major conflict of intrest. No matter what gets discussed tomorrow Bay Area Yamaha is getting a ton of free advertising out of the whole deal, the DJs don't seem to be being reprimanded for encouraging violence, and the radio station is not financially impacted in any way.

How do you guys feel? I'm thinking now more than ever that these idiots need to be taken off the air before they hurt somebody. Especially now that I've heard that abortion of a clip.
I agree with you 1000%.

Bay Area Yamaha is not being good or noble by appearing on the morning show. They are instead capitalizng on an opportunity to get free advertising.

These DJs encouraged people to literally murder Bay Area Yamaha customers. If Bay Area Yamaha wishes to be truly supportive of the motorcycling community, they will pull all ads and association from 103.5 until those responsible lose their jobs. Period.

That's a bit of an assumption, to put it mildly.

For all you know, they might go on there, rip the DJs a new asshole, then pull their advertising.

They'll get their voice heard, the point across, better than any of us trying, at this stage. They only we we will get heard is a mass rally of some kind.

If they pull their advertising without being on the show, then only we know about it - not the ignorant cage-driving, door-opening masses.

I wrote the yami dealership an E-mail and asked to buy a long sleeved T shirt with thier name on it- so I can tell the story up here.

I hope they have a long sleeved shirt- it is a bit cold here still LOL

Anybody remember the last time Live 105 pulled this stunt with Lamont and Tonnelli??? They got slapped on the wrist and it was marginalized. A weak apology to save advertising dollars is BS. Boycott Live 105 advertisers and let them know why.

If they air the PSA regarding motorcyclist and the legality of lane splitting, that would have more of an impact to the caging crowd (better for us) then an advertiser pulling an ad. Sure it's free ad for BA Yamaha, but that's also more awareness for us riders.

It was 92.3 and it wasn't Lamont & Tonnelli. The dj's in question were fired shortly afterwards.

I heard the clip. I didn't hear any sort of a sincere apology.

I also heard the GM from Bay Area Yamaha offer MSF classes to these douchebags as well as give a shout out to his LOW PRICES and HASSLE FREE SALES. Nothing more than free advertising.

Thanks, Bay Area Yamaha. For nothing. Informing the public that lanesplitting is legal could have easily been acomplished without your sales pitch attached. If you were really interested in protecting motorcyclists, you would be demanding PSAs every morning with a "watch out for bikers and lanesplitting is legal" message. Instead you traded a little bit of free advertising for letting these morons off the hook easy.

I hope something more comes of this.

My follow up email to Dan Lebson regarding this AM's show.

Mr. Lebson –

While I appreciate your company’s efforts, I do believe this AM shows fell short. Live 105 and their DJ’s should be held accountable. Claiming ignorance, they are biker friendly, their family has bikers in it, or they didn’t mean it etc simple does not make amends for their words yesterday. Nor does going on the air to exonerate your company. This is not the case of some an unreasonable element in society that won’t be happy regardless of what Woody says or does as he so eloquently put it on the air. It’s very clear what needs to be done.

1. Woody and his crew should be held accountable, period.
2. Live 105 needs to put considerable resources behind rider awareness during the commute hours.

Continuing to support Live 105 will only make your company’s efforts this AM seem as hollow as the DJ’s remorse/apology unless Live 105 takes significant actions. I believe that you and your company’s efforts are sincere and will see the logic behind my comments.

Re: Bay Area Riders Forum post by your tech in reponse to the 105 fiasco

Dan Lebson
General Manager of Bay Area Yamaha

I'm sure everyone here (BARF) would echo my words in saying thank you for taking quick action. We know and understand that you did not have any knowledge or control of the AM show's content.

However, I would urge you to pull your advertising dollars unless the hosts go beyond a simple and quick on air apology. The damage done will not be unwound in such a fashion.

The radio show should -

1. Take the hosts responsible off the air permanently

2. Devote their next morning show to the legality and benefits of lane sharing while commuting on a motorcycle

3. Provide significant airtime each morning promoting rider awareness including lane sharing during the commute hours

A simple on air apology will not suffice. It takes far more counter act the stupidity of their publicity this morning.

While we don’t hold you and your company responsible for the content of today's show, it would look poor if your company continued to support 105 without the station taking significant actions in support of and the promotion of rider awareness.

I believe that everyone here who commutes on a daily basis like myself would agree. I have already contacted Live 105 personally as have many others from the Forum. But as you know, your dollars speak loudly as a customer of 105 - just as our dollars speak loudly as customers of yours.

Thank you,

C.J. Johnson

that dj is a fucking waste of skin, and the only thing i want to hear out his mouth is an announcment that he will no longer be on the air . an appology is not sincere when its done because your boss tells you to.

Give Bay Area Yami a break. They've got a business to run so yeah, when they get some time on the radio sure they're going use it to advertise their store, I'm ok with that.

Dan didn't back down when it was clear the DJ wanted him to agree that the comments wern't meant to hurt anyone. Dan did make a big deal of making the other two losers on the show take back what they'd said, and he took a few nicely worded swipes at Woody saying that backpeddling and constantly mentioning the "I don't want anyone to get hurt" didn't undo the damage.

He maybe didn't come accross as the hard ass that one of us might have done, but he had to represent not only his business but Yamaha as a whole, so he he had to be carefull about what he said. He can't come across like a hard ass, becuase people don't want to try and buy a bike rom a guy who's a hardass.

Yeah maybe he could have been more agro, yes I'm sure many of us would have been, but he didn't let them off easy, he made sure all three of them took back what they said, he publicly told them that there were no excuses and that they were out of line. And not once did he say that the MC community took anything Woody said out of context. That's pretty good going for a regular guy thrown into this with less than 24 hours to prepare.

FWIW, I heard him on the broadcast today when it hit the air, and I think he did an excellent job representing the Bay Area motorcycling community as well as his business. Kudos to him for taking those morons to task without coming off like the neandrathalic knuckledgragger that most of the rest of the world thinks motorcyclists are.

Okay. I can concede that you are correct and some good could potentially come out of it. The dealership could indeed use it as an opportunity to be helpful to the community AND ram a microphone up the DJs sphincter. I'm all for that.

....It was refreshing to see good people operating a dealership, there is a thread here about why people hate dealerships, when I read it, I found it interesting how reality differs from most people's perceptions.

Bay Area Yamaha rocks, and I for one am supporting them.

uh geeee. do you know me? :blush
very sweet words, thanks... not sure if i always live up to them, but thank you. And thanks to you other BARFers who had nice things to say about me. ;)

as for Bay Area Yamaha --- where do i begin? are we great or are we un-great? i think the BEST statement i have read so far in ALL these posts is "I found it interesting how reality differs from most people's perceptions.”
and i will add, screw reality. the world is a barely functional set of perceptions. reality is beyond us all.

my 'reality' is that i ride everyday rain or shine. i am focused on motorcycles and motorcycling life. i am a ruthless lanesplitter. I stand by my own work and the work of my fellow tech, but I do not stand for everything at my dealership. there are only two motorcyclists working at the dealership – guess who – the techs. so clearly, there are different agendas. There are a million people out there - a million agendas and a million different perceptions of 'what is right'. I live by my perceptions, and others live by theirs.

I am not pleased by the radio clips I just heard. I’m sure I could fill pages with analysis of issues – loads of criticisms – judgments on others – blah blah blah. But in the end, it all comes down to what my agendas are – how I perceive life.

So – instead of sharing all my negative thoughts and “what a dingleberry dumbshit” thoughts, i’ll share some of the things I’d PREFER to hear on the radio: getting information to cagers- more from the legal angle, the economic/environmental/emotional benefits of motorcycles, encourage cagers to learn how to drive (i.e. gas on RIGHT brake on LEFT :p ) and tell them how they can be cool cagers when a bike goes blasting by, stand against cager's bitterness towards OUR freedom, convince cagers that they would be happier on a bike, talk to fellow motorbikers about better riding skills, and demonstrate that bikers are all kinds of people - chics, dudes and crudes and prudes. (see ‘millions’ comment above.) Cut the petty power-game (LIVE 105 vs. B.A.Y. vs BARF vs ________ fill in the blank) and talk about the shit that really matters to the motorcyclists!

i'm not the type to advertise my way onto the radio, campaign for legal action or tap dance for apologies. i keep to myself and enjoy it. a person doesn't have to be in the spotlight to make a difference. i am behind-the-scenes agent - i ride the ride and clench the wrench. That is my way of being NOT about sales, prices and advertising – NOT about publicity, tit-for-tat admissions of retardation and on-air apologies.

the curtain is closing on this radio drama – but the theater’s real stars were all sitting in the audience – the motorcyclists. Where were all THEIR lines?

I’m about freedom, acceleration and choices. I’ll choose my own line.

So – there is my snotty little 2cents. :teeth
See you out on the road.
