The Electric Motorcycle Thread

No, BARF is barely alive and we don't need to further fragment the user base with unnecessary complexity. Ugh, I miss the lack of vibration on the Zero and am terrified at how much the new bikes I want are known to vibrate.

Yeah, there is something nice about no vibration.
My old Tmax has probably the smoothest twin ever made. The older 700/800 GS has a variation of that.

what bikes are u lookng at?

test rode a Versys 650 at Kawi demo day, I was disappointed with it's buzzing. There is a resonance at certain rpm.

The Tuareg 660 because of weight, but the 660 platform has lots of engine problems currently. The Transalp and KTM 490 platforms are 2 years away. I'm priced out of the area, so I'm just selling everything and giving up on motorcycling around here.

Storm Bee is vaporware and Zero destroyed their reliability, customer service, and innovation with only iterating with Pay-to-Unlock.

But users will love to have the ability to unlock more power from their bike by only paying a one time fee!:laughing:laughing:laughing:laughing

Tenere 700, but u already know that :)

I thought storm bee is gonna deliver this year in Canada...
But probably not as a street legal bike?

Kawi 650s buzz pretty bad when new. Once the engine has a few thousand miles, they settle down a lot. I had a Ninja 650 from new, and started to question my purchase due to vibes. At around 3k miles, it got a lot better. I thought maybe I was losing my mind as the difference was so noticeable, and I didn't think such a thing was possible. At 5k it settled even more, and at 7k a very slight but noticeable improvement. There was still some vibes, but very little, and mostly at higher RPMs. I have no idea why they're so bad when new.

Tenere 700 is 50 lbs heavier and has tubes and no fancy rider aids. If I'd break my "never shift again" rule for a dual sport, it really needs those things. As it is, the forests have burned and are very unappealing for me to dual sport through, tampering my enthusiasm.

At this point the Storm Bee would see USA garages in like January 2023 which is too close to the 2024 target date for the big four consortium to release their electric motorcycles.

Damon I guess unveiled another motorcycle: https://electrek.co/2022/01/06/damo...70-mph-hyperfighter-electric-motorcycle-line/

Here is the CEO about the new bike:
“Forget what you know about traditional streetfighters. Just as HyperSport has done to the sportbike segment, the HyperFighter stands to disrupt the streetfighter category with groundbreaking technology not found on any other bikes. The HyperFighter is a stripped-down demon of a bike that is not for the faint of heart. We’re excited to give the naked sports bike fanatic everything they want, and with HyperDrive serving as the nucleus, Damon can continue to innovate and rapidly scale to bring the world’s most electrifying motorcycles to market.”

I'm not sure how the HyperSport has disrupted the sportbike segment considering.. it doesn't exist. :dunno

“HyperFighter pays homage to the streetfighters of yesterday while looking to the future with unparalleled safety and performance that Damon is known around the world for. We’ve built an incredible, technologically-advanced motorcycle that will appeal to both long-time streetfighter enthusiasts and new riders.”

Known around the world for? :dunno

Also I love this bit from the article:
Just like Damon’s previously unveiled models, the HyperFighter is expected to include the company’s CoPilot system that provides a 360º advanced warning system using radar, cameras, and other sensors.

When that semi runs the red light and t-bones you on your motorcycle.. right before your death you will get a 'Warning' chime to your right/left lol

My thoughts exactly.

Most sportbike riders wouldn't know what a Damon is if you put a gun to their head.

tuareg 660 is listed at 450 lbs, same as a T7

I just got a DRZ, PO included a Rekcluse auto clutch kit, will have to install it some time and see how that works, PO says he almost never touches the clutch lever.

Rode my Energica from Los Gatos to Pacifica and back, around 125 miles round trip. Mostly had cruise control set at 70mph (indicated) with occasional accelerations and whatnot. Was on 280 so couldn't take it easy and I'm really not into hypermiling or anything.

Anyway, the range of 120 miles on freeway seems pretty spot on. I rode 110 miles with 10 miles remaining.

That said, if I ride how I normally ride (aggressive) I wouldn't be surprised if that range drops to 80 miles or so.

Had to charge for 5 minutes to get home. EVGo is kind of a scam. $2 connection fee for a 5-minute recharge. Won't be charging there again.

Ouch, it is 450 lbs. I typo'd "tuareg 600 wet weight" and had been going by that figure.

EVGo is expensive I had been watching the L3 network not expand since 2018 according to Chargepoint.

EVgo used to be ok. The connection charge must be fairly new. I used to have a Chevy Spark EV until 2018 and never remember paying that.

The L3 network has grown tremendously since 2018. Electrify Murica has a ton of stations now. Pretty much any populated area has L3 charging and it's super nice to only need 15min or so to top up and keep going.

Wish they put L3 charging along Highway 1. So far Tesla is the only one that has a few stations in less populated areas like Big Sur or Fort Bragg.

Yea that connection fee sucks... If you pay for a monthly plan they wave it but I much prefer Charge Points pay by the kW model.

I don't see an improvement to the Peninsula or Marin twisties where a L3 bike could benefit.

I dream of a day where there is a L3 charger at Alice's or Stinson beach. Being able to run laps all day with no regard for state of charge would be prefect.

That said bikes with bigger packs make a day in the twisties a possibility. Get to 90% charge at the closest DC station and then go run your favorite roads.
