The Electric Motorcycle Thread

I don't see an improvement to the Peninsula or Marin twisties where a L3 bike could benefit.

I always thought Pescadero would be a perfect location to put a L3 and some L2s. Food, coffee, shops but a small town that is fun to be in for a little bit while you recharge.

This company seems to have a great product for installing L3 without large infrastructure investment. https://freewiretech.com/

I dream of a day where there is a L3 charger at Alice's or Stinson beach. Being able to run laps all day with no regard for state of charge would be prefect.

That said bikes with bigger packs make a day in the twisties a possibility. Get to 90% charge at the closest DC station and then go run your favorite roads.

Yes exactly. For the Peninsula there are chargers all around the twistys, from Santa Cruz, to Half Moon Bay, to Hwy 17, Palo Alto, etc. It's already good enough for the Energicas.

North Bay is still problematic as is the rest of Hwy 1 in NorCal.

Not surprising though, even Tesla just recently got a charger in Big Sur and Fort Bragg. It will take another year or two but more chargers will pop up as more auto manufacturers make EVs more mainstream. I think the Energica should be good for 98% of my riding. For the rest I have other bikes.

Also once Tesla opens up it's chargers for CCS charging, a lot of these problems will be solved.

The coffee shop impressions are pretty cute. At least the four minutes of my hue tuub patience…
And yeah, folks are generally pretty nice to you when you roll up on an electric bike. It’s pretty funny..

Do y'all think we should have our own section for e motos? This thread has gotten quite long and is all over the place.
however it may just turn into one of those dead places on barf like the supermoto forum.

I've been thinking we have needed one for awhile. This thread is so long.

Well, you mentioned it and the mod gods listened. Looks like the Supermoto section is now completely gone. No more supermoto section.

Gee would sure be swell if I had a million dollars. Also has anyone noticed how handsome/beautiful the mods are?

I’d grant yer wish immediately,
yet I’ve been “elevated” to Mod Emeritus or some such -
now my awesome BARF powah is muted….

I can dig it.

Ever used your AAA Roadside assistance when you ran out of electrons?

I have Progressive, it is like $2 for roadside assistance. From Mt Ham rd I can get with a mile of my house before it is uphill... I could completly drain the battery and they take me that "last mile"...

Not certain i like the LHB. looks like it could be fun but i'll believe it when it's real.

Anyway, the range of 120 miles on freeway seems pretty spot on. I rode 110 miles with 10 miles remaining.

That said, if I ride how I normally ride (aggressive) I wouldn't be surprised if that range drops to 80 miles or so.

Had to charge for 5 minutes to get home. EVGo is kind of a scam. $2 connection fee for a 5-minute recharge. Won't be charging there again.
What was your SOC at ten miles left?

Aren't there any J-1772's you can use instead, for such a short charge? Just take a 20 minute break instead of five minutes.

I'm seeing used Segway 160X going for $2000-$3000, 260X for $4000-$6000 and Sur Ron X going around $4000. What's the big differences between the 260X and Sur Ron that command such a big difference in prices?
