5 dead in limo crash on SM bridge

The fuck...seriously?

How is that even legal? A vehicle of x person capacity, and NO WAY for someone inside to exit without external assistance?

I take it you have never been in one? I actually get to ride in them pretty often (wedding photog) I've been in little ones for like 5-7 people to 20 seater hummer. I honestly can only recall one that allowed me to open the door from the inside and that was in Colorado. Trust me I want to get out that thing and I always check but 9/10 times it doesn't open from the inside.

It's been a few years. And I guess I had never tried to be the first one out. Damn. :(

Ever notice how there's always like 2 too many people in any limo you're in? What's up with that?

I use to drive limos. The door lock is probably just the standard child safety lock being enabled to prevent drunks from opening the doors and stumbling out into traffic.

This. There's nothing fancy about the lock system and honestly, it shouldn't be used anyway.

When's the last time you rode in a cab drunk and the driver engaged the child-safety locks?

When was the last time you had open bottles of alcohol and were actively drinking in a cab

You'd be surprised at how little drinking takes place in a limo. Imagine being like canned sardines and trying to pass drinks around. Add in the bumps and the stop and goes and you got your self a pretty entertaining show on some pretty basic stuff. Consuming in a limo you aren't usually drunk but just getting started. By the time you jump into a taxi you are already drunk sometimes very. On top of that, you are limited in space, not like you have a bar of items to choose from. It's usually champaign and a case of beer that is being share with everyone.

Someone mentioned child safety locks, yes my truck is set up like this. It's usually a little switch on the side on the door. You usually only have acces to this when the door is open.

All I know is since this, my ass is making sure I can open the doors from the inside otherwise I'm driving my own car.

I can't ride in limos if they're full or anywhere but the window/door seats in cabs. Way too damn claustrophobia-inducing.

And I always check the child-locks anytime I sit in the backseat of a car. :|

I can only hope that perhaps the laws will be changed to require better egress from limos after this.

I have small children and I will never have or will use a child "safety" lock. It has always seemed like a death trap to me.
