2010 + Ducati Multistrada - what do you not like?

Holding your own in the B group...isn't the highest hurdle to jump. And what you think is "Magic" might just not be the same opinion everyone else has.

We are talking street here, not track...I've yet to see a switchback on a track, like we have in the Sierra.

I would give it high marks for commuting in the Bay Area Traffic War Zone though.

Whoa Tiger, I never said anything about "highest hurdle." I've ridden bikes on the track for 15 years... all bikes. Never been the fastest, BTW. I'm just making the point that there are few bikes that can do a lot of stuff well. And in terms of street I have never ridden a bike on twisties that has inspired the level of confidence that the Pikes Peak does. And I live at the base of Mt Tam. We have plenty of switchbacks.

And I know nothing about offroad riding... but then again, I never said I did.
 
I'd give the MTS 1200 a try before you rush out; especially the '13 models with Skyhook (where do they come up with these names?)

And did you not read the thing I said about the 4" (yes four inches) longer wheel base that the MTS has than the RR bikes?

If that means nothing to you...that indicates that you don't turn tight corners.
I mean that's OK...everyone should have a bike that works best for where they use it..
But...Not everyone is happy with the same ways and places of riding use.

Umm, I used to live in Hayward...so...Mt Tam was a pretty regular ride, anytime I was in the Mines road loop Mood. Two things kept the Mt Tam part in the not too challenging mode...

1. was the switchbacks aren't that challenging.
2. The speeds are best kept in check when there could be a cop (that you can't see) waiting to greet you.

the wheelbase is compensated by the longer suspension travel. You're right, I don't ride where you do, and I don't need to made 180 degree turns in 3-feet of space. So I guess the MTS is right for me, but it isn't for you.

What, exactly, are you trying to argue? You clearly know a lot about bikes. I'm simply conveying my personal experience with the MTS1200s Pikes Peak. That was the point of the thread, and as it sounds, something that you can't personally speak to.
 
I'm curious what Lou thinks of the Tuono...any/all generations.

I was just going to suggest a Tuono V4R if someone wants a sharper edged standard bike than the Multi, but not a full on supersport. I have both a Multi and a TV4R, and the latter is very much up Louemc's alley. Wicked fast and nimble, but not quite the back breaker of an SS.

Regarding wheelbase, the Multi turns very quickly and you do not notice the wheelbase at all. Plus the turning radius on it is insanely tight. You can uturn this thing in a phone booth.

Right, The engineers that went to all the work to shorten wheel bases to the max of cramming components in a shrink wrap package, were wasting their time..
and the company that hired them was wasting it's money. :laughing


Now if the entire industry would just listen to you...it would revolutionize everything.

On the other hand...There might be riders/racers/chassis builders,
that do notice things that you don't notice.

Dude you come across as the biggest douche on BARF. Even bigger than me and that's saying something.

I was merely stating that you don't notice the long wheelbase on the Multi like you might on other bikes, due to the overall geometry of the bike and the leverage you get with the bars. The bike turns very well, even compared to the supersports I've owned and ridden on the street and track. Yes, at the limit, you're going to notice a difference, but on the street? Maybe I should have clarified that it would only be noticeable to someone with the mad skillz of SuperLouemc? :dunno

BTW, you still haven't ridden one of these bikes that you seem to be an expert on, have you?

I'm all for the Tuono...:thumbup, I'm all for the Euro thinking that started the movement, that got a market for that type of package to happen.

I'm kinda embarrassed that Americans can't get with it, more than they do.

It's really so simple...max performer for where you are using the bike.

If You're on a closed course road racing track..set-up and prep for that.
If you're on the public road, set-up and prep for that.

They are different, it takes different set-ups.

But the good news is...there are riders that can see it, and they can do it themselves...or they can buy the bikes like the Tuono..so it is do-able either way. :thumbup

I fixed the windscreen noise issue by going with a DP Touring windscreen. It's roughly the same shape as the stock screen, but there's a lip at the top that curves up and that seems to help a lot.

At the highest position, the wind goes up and over my helmet and it's pretty much noise free.

It's an expensive screen ~ $200, but worth every penny IMO.

Now granted, I have a shorter torso, so it works for me and my helmet combo (Arai RXQ)

I'd give it a shot and see if it works. I saw what looked like a returned one at Motor Cafe the other day. See if they will let you take it out for a spin?
 
Another week with the bike, and all my original complains/issues have been addressed.

New front brake pads made the bike stop like it should now. Smooth and forceful. The DP touring seat is very nice - makes you sit in the bike, rather than on top of it. The DP windscreen is a Godsend. I don't need to wear earplugs anymore for quick jaunts on the freeway.

Now I just need to find some time and take a nice long trip somewhere.

Sounds good to me :thumbup That is if you put street handle bars and a Scotts damper on it, (assume you are going to be riding it on the street).

And You didn't want me to mention handlebars or Scotts damper...Well, I don't want you to decide you got the wrong bike, two months after you get it like Ya did the last one, either. :laughing

I just like trying different bikes. And no, a test ride won't do it for me. To me, I need to own the bike -- work on it, and then decide if it will work with me. An upright sitting Panigale would be on the top of my list right now.:)

God dammit, I'm not ready to buy it yet. :|

I'll hold it for you brother. It's just a passing thought. I keep showing pics of the Panigale to my wife, and she just rolls her eyes. haha
