2010 + Ducati Multistrada - what do you not like?

Also, any of you MTS guys do your own service--outside of changing the oil? I was told that you can't turn off the service light yourself! haha

I was looking through the paperwork and the original owner paid a good sum of cash for services.

600-mile service = $300
7500-mile service = $600
15K service = $1100

Not seeing those numbers here.. Even at 32mpg, you should be getting 140-miles easy. It's a 5 gallon tank, so 32x5=160.

I think my low fuel light came on at around 150. The computer says my average mpg is 40ish.

Well, the gas light is full of panic in that case because my gas light turns on after only 3 gallons are burned. So, that means I'm pulling into a station around every 100 miles. The most I have ever put in at one time is about 3.9 gallons and that's after ignoring the light for 30 or so miles. I do only bring home 32mpg average (according to the computer), but that's riding in the city a lot and on HWY1. And I like the throttle... a lot.

Glad to hear the actual capacity is larger. Can I revise my complaint to be about the inaccuracy of the fuel gauge/light?:teeth

I'm sure 10-years from now, this will be the norm. The different suspension settings

10 years from now, i will be very curious to see how this electric suspension wizardry is holding up. i'm sure you'll be on to something else by then though!

Range: Yeah, same fuel light problem here. It comes on with 2 gallons or so left. No problem with the range, more problem ignoring the light and gauge on empty.

Electronic Suspension: Honestly I don't know how I lived without this except for the fact my other bikes are solo-rider only :). Being able to adjust to the rear load on the fly makes a huge difference when you throw luggage or a passenger on.

Funny, my '05 Multi 1000S had fuel gauge issues, as well. with about 50-60% of the fuel gone, it would always show empty. Very annoying.

Supposedly they fixed that with the 1100. Of course the fact that it's back in the 1200 is..
:laughing

Those bikes come with resettable trip meters, right?

If it is telling you it's empty way too early, trust the trip meter for how far you should be able to go. That's the only thing I've ever trusted on a motorcycle.

That is rational, practical and correct. But somehow the damn light and low fuel warning short-circuits my brain. If there was a crumb attached to an electric shock this rat would still grab the crumb every time :(

Berg FS 570 = awesome.

As you know, Stan, I thought hard about the 511 SMR but could not find one to look at, and liked the Berg specs out of the box (wheels, FI, alleged motor durability, torque/HP for street). I'm very happy with it, both performance-wise and mechanically. Husky color is better tho.

Been lusting after the Berg for sometime. I kicked myself for not getting one when they were available. Hell, there was one sold here on barf for a very good price.

As for the gas light, I too had an MTS1000 with the gas light issue, but it's different with the 1200. The gas light comes on prematurely (2+ gallons left).

I think motorcycles with their inherit small tanks and gas sloshing around when you ride - it's difficult to make an accurate gauge.

Agreed. That's pretty much all I've ever done, as well. Still, if they are going to include a fuel gauge, it should actually work. I would rather not have one at all (like most of my bikes).

Well, it looks like I don't need rotors after all. I reset all the suspension settings for each riding mode, and all is well now. Looks like they were all out of whack causing some interesting compression issues during braking :)

I ordered a DP touring seat, and maybe a top case soon.

I have an 1100 and the fuel light works great. Someone told me the fuel light used to show empty on the 1000s at 50% capacity because that means you had enough gas to get back to where you filled up. :laughing

Atta boy. Keep farkling the crap out of my future bike. :teeth

:) Dude, i'm dialing this thing in for you!

I called Ace Motorsports in Concord about the DP touring seat, and they had one in stock. I told them to hold it for me, and i'll be right down to pick it up. Shortly after hanging up the phone with them, I noticed it was about 1:00PM, and a drive from Santa Clara->Concord->Santa Clara would be tough as I still had things to take care of in the office.

Then it dawned on me that my wife had the day off. So I called her and asked if she would drive to Concord and buy the seat for me.

I'm guessing you realized that she said 'NO' but she will call Ace back and order the seat for me and pay for my shipping. :) So she calls Ace, and says she's calling about the seat held for Stan... The guy immediately says that this happens a lot and it's not a big deal. Apparently, they thought the wife was there to call and cancel the order and not put the seat on hold for me--as this seems to happen a lot. :laughing

Well, long story short - the parts guy at Ace even offered to drive the seat home for us (as Cupertino was on his way home)

Great service! I'll be buying more parts from them as well as my other favorite dealer (Moto Cafe):thumbup

Nice. Now THAT is service. Very cool. I'm so glad that I won't have to sit on the crummy stock seat when I buy this thing :teeth

If it's the same parts guy (Jim?) that I've dealt with, he goes beyond what you normally see to help make customers happy. I needed a part to get a clutch slave working properly on my ST2 and they didn't have any in stock. He told me that I could stop by his place in Palo Alto the next morning - when they were closed for a holiday - and he would give me a spare one that he had in his pile of saved parts. I showed up the next morning, got the part, and was back riding the bike shortly after that.

I don't have much experience with the other aspects of the Ace dealership (i.e., sales and service), but the parts department is excellent.

So, I am formally complaining about the fuel gauge/light. Yesterday the light came on on the way into work. After reading this discussion, I ignored it. I rode another 20 or so miles. About 30+ from the time the light first came on. I stopped and got gas. 3 measly gallons! That's what it swallowed. Which means the gas light came on after only 2 or so gallons had been consumed out of 5.3 (remember... I'm getting 32mpg).

So... that's not even approximate. I mean... I don't expect the thing to be perfect but it almost seems like it's becoming less accurate with age. You know what they say... a stopped clock is accurate more often than one that loses 5 min an hour.

Don't remember the name, but so far i'm very impressed with their parts dept. I buy a lot of bikes and visit a lot of parts departments, so it's nice when someone goes above and beyond.

When the light comes on, does it stay on or does it go off and come back on later?

Strange, I have been reading a lot of MTS1200 threads, and no one has mentioned the gas light coming on after only 2-gallons used.
