2010 + Ducati Multistrada - what do you not like?

Uh....I don't think so...But I haven't examined both of them, enough. Just Thinkin the Panigale is hard edged, and the Multistrada is soft edged, for soft edged riders.

I like hard edged with a public road stance. And...I want to know if the electronicly adjusted suspension internals can be tweeked to my rough road use (vs the smooth track use)...so I'm probably a long ways out. I just need to find out more.

Seriously, look up the 1200 Multistrada. It's a lot more 'sport' than you think!

Think re-tuned 1198 motor with 150hp on tap!

Outside of changing internal damping (which I don't anyone has) you can change spring rates. Rebound/Compression/Preload is done electronically, so you can tweak to your hearts content.

As for raw performance; MCN tests the 04-05 ZX-10 Quarter mile time at 10.7 seconds, and the 1200 MTS at 10.62 :)

It may not be a Panigale, but it is very much sport. I held my own in B group at a recent Sonoma track day. Then, after a push of a button and the snap-on of a rear case, commuted to work in full touring comfort the next day. The bike is magic.
 
When the light comes on, does it stay on or does it go off and come back on later?

Strange, I have been reading a lot of MTS1200 threads, and no one has mentioned the gas light coming on after only 2-gallons used.

Yeah, it sometimes does that but in this case it just stayed on. I honestly think it's gotten worse over the 15 months and 6700 miles I've had it. I may have the dealer take a look at it.
 
I routinely get 40mpg on mine even with a brisk street pace. I get over 45mpg when cruising on the freeway. It only dips below 40 when I'm truly caning it, giving full throttle on every corner exit and blasting on the straights. I think my MPG have improved over time (9k miles now) and with perhaps with various software updates.

Range isn't an issue for me except when compared to a GSA.

What makes you think the MTS suspension is tuned for smooth track? It's not. It excels on rough roads, that's kind of the point. A Panigale with half the suspension travel will be painful on rough roads no matter how much you adjust the suspension.

We get that you dig the image that goes along with turning a race replica into a streetfighter. But if you're adding handlebars and tweaking the suspension to deal with rough roads, your race rep is no longer "hard edged."

Uhh...That's your opinions and perspective... And you read my post wrong as well...I was talking Smooth track suspension internals that the Panigale would have, and tweeking that with internals for the rough roads.

That's using different parts (shimstacks) not adjusting the parts that are in there.

What do you know about riding rough conditions? I was #3 in the state of Oregon, in off road (Desert) racing.

Sport Rider Magazine did a feature called ...The Ultimate Sport bike...Build Your Own.. They Street fightered their R1, took it to their canyon playground/testing area and they were Amazed at the increase of power and sharpened handling...That's Hard Edged..Not softened edge Girl.

And...The MTS has 4 (yes four) more inches of wheel base than the Panigale and other
RR bikes...now you might not know diddly about chassis geometry and the reasons for what is there, but Engineers do, and any racer should....I ride tight twists, short as can be had,, is the best (easiest) to turn....Long is slow and heavy. Not my happy place.

These Sport (Race replica) bikes have enough travel...We aren't MX racing them, it is a public road. The dealing with harshness shortcoming is multi facited though, some falls on the rider's inability to pick
a clean-est line, And to loft the front wheel (wheel in the smooth air, vs hard pavement) over what is in the otherwise clean line....

Then there is the suspension valving (shimstacks) That has to be for rough roads not smooth roads..

And...How the rider sits...That involves street handlebars..Sit like a (and this includes getting your ass off the seat) MX or SuperMoto, or Desert Racer...Not a Road racer.

The Panigale is off the table though...There is only One bike on the table now...2013 BMW S1000RR HP4

It's Dynamic Damping Control feature in the suspension...on top of the other features it has...
makes it the One...If I get it, I'll put street bars on it.

Just part of setting it up for where I will be using it.

Holding your own in the B group...isn't the highest hurdle to jump. And what you think is "Magic" might just not be the same opinion everyone else has.

We are talking street here, not track...I've yet to see a switchback on a track, like we have in the Sierra.

I would give it high marks for commuting in the Bay Area Traffic War Zone though.

While you're still re-living your past of being an awesome desert racer - no doubt over 20-years ago; life has continued to move on and bikes have evolved. Yes, your '04 ZX10 with bars may be the 2nd coming of Christ to you, but technology has progressed well past that bike you so highly regard.

Another thing I note, is that when you speak of things, you have no personal account with, you speak like you actually know what you're talking about. That's pretty humorous to those that can see through the BS. I know in your mind, those 3 touchdowns in one ga.....er..... number 3 desert racer in Oregon allows you to read the specs of a bike and mentally ride 'em and deduce your professional opinion on them. But in the reality--in the real world, here and now. Most folks know that a bike is more than what's written in black and white text, and more than the sum of all parts.

I do however find most of your posts pretty entertaining - like a way a court jester entertains the King.

But the BMW's Dynamic Damping Control would be a must have thing.

I'd give the MTS 1200 a try before you rush out; especially the '13 models with Skyhook (where do they come up with these names?)
 
Weak Link..... Sato Carbon fiber engine case covers to compliment the carbon fiber motif that the HP4 comes with...Hippie :laughing
