2014 KTM 1290 Super Duper Duke First Look

My opinion is KTM's are simple to work on. Very simple. I'm working on mine right now (prepping for a trackday on Monday) :ride

can this change back into how bad-ass this jail-time required bike will be to own???

thanks:thumbup

I KNOW I WOULD GO TO JAIL!!! i have trouble kepping my RC51 front wheel on the pavement:burnout

Every KTM I have owned inspires illegal behavior. :teeth

The license plate carrier (w/ rear blinkers) of the new to me 690SM fell off and got chewed up by the tire during a ride last week. The upside is the tail now looks a lot cleaner; the downside is I can't ride it until replacements parts arrived. Today I was thinking maybe I could strap the broken license plate carrier/rear blinks over my shoulder and go for a ride. If I get stopped in the city I could claim that it had just fallen off. Once I get into the hills I could stash it on the side of the road and pick it up on the way back. Is this the sort of illegal behavior you were talking about? :laughing

KTM fill a small niche with really cool bikes. Too bad you have to deal with multiple screens with their associated covers and o-rings along with 2 different cartridge filters and their o-rings and covers on the 690. The LC8 is an improvement. They still have multiple screens but only have one cartridge filter, o-ring and cover.

Not a deal breaker but more work then no screens and 1 spin on filter. KISS.

It takes less than a minute to pull a screen, clean it and put it back in. Some people being real lazy.
If its so much work don't bother pulling the screens. How often do you see dirt in them? I never have.

Yeah, exactly. It may be more to do than some bikes, but the task is not complex at all nor tedious. At least for me, I find it "zen" to work on my bikes... :cool

Is this link supposed to show that it's hard or easy? Looks pretty damn easy to me.

Ha ha really? Having to remove the freaking TANK to do a simple oil change is nuts. I think your definition of "pretty damn easy" is very different from most people.

I had the rear light/plate assembly break off on my DRZ in the same fashion, I still commuted to work on it for 2 days in that condition. No bridge toll!

Whoa, I just looked at that link, that KTM twin oil change looks to be a pain in the nads... :wtf

Note: Removing the tank is only required on the Adventure

With the Superduke, the only thing you need to do is pull the right-side panel (4 screws/bolts) and you've got access to the oil filler cap. The rest is right out in the open.

My only beef with the whole process is making a tin-foil guard for when you pull the lower-reservoir bolt. Oil can go all over the damn place if you're not ready for it, but after you've gone through it once, you figure out how to manage it from that point forward.

Yes, it's a bit more of a pain in the arse than other bikes. At the end of the day, I don't care, because my reward is a ride on a MOTHER%#$*ING SUPERDUKE.

:toothless

:twofinger

That guide is BS. I just did an oil change and the only thing I had to remove was the skid plate.

I got an oil pump for the boat, and it works great on the adv too. Makes the process even easier with no mess at all. Don't get the cheap one as its useless (http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=15607).
