2014 KTM 1290 Super Duper Duke First Look

It sure is a nice bike and I'm sure fun to ride.
But its also the most over hyped thing since Ducati launched the Hypermotard.
KTM is putting some serious effort to make sure everyone knows their this bike is ubercool.
Kinda reminds me of HD and Icon. Turns me off a little bit as I'm a big fan of KTM unlike the other two.

Heaven forbid they advertise a bike that took a significant investment to develop.

What have the Japanese factories offered lately that's as exciting? Ducati, Aprilia and KTM are pushing performance parameters.

HD and Icon are irritating because they don't have performance to match the hype.

tno more naked bikes for me.....the windblast at highwayspeeds gets old in a hurry.

That's how I feel about race reps. Clipons and high pegs get old in a hurry too.

:thumbup Yeah, doesn't tempt me..but...It could be uberbest, someone else has ever had.

Little matter get's into this mix..The rider, is part of what makes the bike work, and how does that rider use the bike? Where does that rider, ride?

I don't know, Lou, I want one. Actually, I think that is an MSF advertisement. Take our parking lot class, and at the end of day 2, you'll be able to back it in on the street like the KTM test rider there.

No need for those things to be a complaint though.

Clip-ons, toss em, I say, and Spiegler even sells a kit (LSL street fighter) for that.

I like the Race rep peg position, keeping my feet up off the pavement.

Sweet thing about the sit up, with Street fighter handlebars is..
Taking that bend out of your upper body, the muscle pull, is also removed from going around your ass, and down your legs.

Or in simpler terms...relaxes your whole body.

Wind blast? There are so many different wind shield types and sizes and fairings...There is no excuse for anyone to not have what they want, even vary it to the daily use, like tiny for commute duty, go bigger for long trips at vacation time.

That's what I said :thumbup :ride

I don't want one though...Big Big twin has too big a crank, that generates too much gyro, for me. But that is just me.

You should ride my 950 SM. Its sort of like you ZX10, except less outright power and longer, softer suspension .

It makes me ride like a complete idiot and I dig it. Except it just ate the water pump shaft, and I'll be fix in' it in the next week.

Bags would be perfect for day use..Start out in cold morning with Thermal shirt under your jacket, and insulated gloves.

Have place to put those items (and get out the light normal gloves), a little later.

Bags can carry a tablet computer and a smart phone, as well.

And they are nice and slim for splitting lanes.

Need more space? Put on bigger bags.

this bike is awesome and all but

this bike will NOT sell in the USA.

americans just don't buy naked bikes.

I had a superduke R for 40k miles. no more naked bikes for me.....the windblast at highwayspeeds gets old in a hurry.

That's true.
NO ONE buys them 1200GS's.

^^^ Doesn't that just chap your ass? By the looks of it, all bikes with a license plate, are coming with computerized, and integrated controls, that are appealing to riders that know they can't work those controls, themselves.

I'm so giddy happy to have my 05 ZX-10...I feel like kissing it, every time I walk past it.

I'd rather have a Super Duke 690, I would kill myself with the 1290...

Plus I can't afford it anyway so there's that :(.

I'm a fan of electronic rider aids. It's not about inability to work the controls: even MotoGP riders have traction control and they're far more talented than you or I.

Jeremy McWilliams, roadracing ace who developed this bike, says "no way" can he beat the ABS in stopping distance, even on dry pavement (which means you couldn't either).

But I do think we should be able to customize and defeat these systems, including the linear (or not) nature of the throttle response.

^^^ Won't try to change your mind. You would have to live my life to have the words you hear, have the same meaning, as I'm saying them.

I know how I have to make rapid changes, front to back, and back and forth, as the surface changes arrive, and how looking ahead, alters, what I choose to do, as I use the momentum to serve the arrival.

MotoGP is not my test, or any road racing, that has track workers on a track designed for racing.
How does Jeremy Williams do at the Isle of Man? Or better yet, mountain roads with on coming traffic and connecting driveways and dirt/gravel in the corners?

Where one rides is the test...Ya want to pass.

^+1.

Fuck electronic rider aids. Leave 'em raw and know your limitations.
