2014 KTM 1290 Super Duper Duke First Look

Yeah, exactly. It may be more to do than some bikes, but the task is not complex at all nor tedious. At least for me, I find it "zen" to work on my bikes... :cool

That's true. Mine was a PITA, and I eventually made a sort of "shoe horn" device to help with the leverage. That was, however, the only bad thing about that bike. God I miss that beast. On the plus side, I'm able to write this post from my couch, and not a prison cell. :laughing

man that is complicated.

in contrast, my 690 smc is 1.5 hours for a complete valve adjustment, 45 minutes max if the valves are in spec. 30 min for an oil change, very simple.

changing the front spark plug on my sv650 took almost as long as changing the oil did, and that bike didnt have any covers to remove. imagine doing a 20 valve yamaha's valve adjustment.

point being who knows how tough maintenance will be on this new bike which no one here yet has. gosh!

I'm not normally a fan of bright orange either, but in KTM's case I think it's the like how poisonous insects and such are sometimes brightly colored.

This is the most excited i've ever been about a non-90 degree vtwin.

I like the KTM big-twin motors even better than Ducatis, they're a bit more "rowdy" and sound better than the current 11-degree Testastrettas (can't comment on the superquadro, never ridden one).
 
Oil change? The thing is a BEAST. I am worried about underwear change. Who uses even a 150 hp inline 4 bike to any kind of it's potential on the street? Evel Knievel doesn't even ride, anymore. The bike's not for me, because I just ain't good at 100mph wheelies. I poop my pants, and stuff.

It sure is a nice bike and I'm sure fun to ride.
But its also the most over hyped thing since Ducati launched the Hypermotard.
KTM is putting some serious effort to make sure everyone knows their this bike is ubercool.
Kinda reminds me of HD and Icon. Turns me off a little bit as I'm a big fan of KTM unlike the other two.

:thumbup Yeah, doesn't tempt me..but...It could be uberbest, someone else has ever had.

Little matter get's into this mix..The rider, is part of what makes the bike work, and how does that rider use the bike? Where does that rider, ride?
 
this bike is awesome and all but

this bike will NOT sell in the USA.

americans just don't buy naked bikes.

I had a superduke R for 40k miles. no more naked bikes for me.....the windblast at highwayspeeds gets old in a hurry.
