2019 Honda Super Cub

My monkey seems to lug better than my early 90's, but gets throbby wound out, not a smooth top end power wind up.

Goaty roads with grade will show hill climbing ability, I have strained first gear and seen the limits on pavement. Dirt has way more challenges, it wants to dig holes with the little wheels.
Back in the day a 12 tooth counter shaft sprocket really wakes them up, but you will lose maybe 10 mph on top.

Anyone in the East Bay have a Trail 125 they'd be willing to show off? I couldn't justify the cost of a grom but the trail 125 has really caught my eye lately.

Goodluck I have yet to see one in person

Haha I was browsing parts for the Super Cub and a company GCraft has made this mechanic platform for the honda super cub seat! I just thought that was interesting. I'd imagine some people may have installed a long seat on their bike and have their old seat lying around you can turn it into a mechanics chair! It looks a little on the low side, I guess it is Asian sized.

I'm surprised how few parts there are for the Cub here in America and even more surprised Honda doesn't sell many accessories for this bike. The ONLY accessory they sell in the US is the cargo rack and the previous owner had installed it already.

No suspension upgrades available?

The Olins kit I bought from Honda was made in Thailand, too

I bought the rack for mine too, Honda wanted to buy it back.
Some lawsuit about breaking it created the recall.
I'll bet it was used to stand on pulling wheelies.

I've seen a Trail 125 an Super Cub in person once in Santa Cruz and they were riding together. I guess the Trail 125 is pretty much unobtanium now.

Wonder how easy it will be to get the new Grom once it arrives in August.

Actually these here store is in Tennessee they sell Ohlins shocks for the Super Cub but it's $$$$ i will admit the rear shock is kind of crap on the Super Cub no adjustment at all. Considering you get 2 of them though I guess it's not too bad. I wonder if the Trail 125 shocks fit on it.

Have you heard of a brand called YSS? Is it anygood? I was thinking of getting a pair since they're cheap.

Yeah the minibikes are super popular right now people go nothing better to do but go riding =P

YSS is pretty good. I had a pair of YSS shocks on my old Honda CB400 and they were good. YSS is a pretty popular suspension option in Europe and Asia. I believe they are made in Thailand.

Yep, there are people that pre-ordered the Trail last September, and still don't have one, and have no idea when they'll get one. Dealers won't even take any deposits, and also have no idea when more are coming.

If I had to guess what the new Grom release will be like, I think they'll send 20 or less units per state, and then maybe another 5 will come into the country, and that'll be it until summer of 2022. The dealer markup will be insane.

The only new bike Honda has shipped in any useful quantity, has been the Africa Twin. I know the virus hit them like everyone else, but they seemed to be this bad well before all this slowed everything down. I recall trying to find a CBR650R when it came out, and I gave up 8 months later. I finally saw one in person last December when I got my dirt bike. Honda really needs to work in their new and updated model releases. Kawasaki seems to have figured it out, maybe they can sell Honda the plans to model releases? lol /rant

YSS makes good stuff. I think they make something for everything, and then some. I know they're really popular with china bikes, and bikes that get little to no aftermarket love.

Cool I think I will order up a pair then I found a seller that sells em for $120 but the shipping is slow. Also they don't interfere with the chain cover. I think the Ohlins one you have to remove the chain cover.

There is one with a reservoir that is like $60 more, I would just be happy with a preload adjustment, it sucks when the cub bottoms out. But it depends on how stiff these springs are also. Hmm decisions, I'm trying my best to not spend a lot of money on this bike.

Super Cub & Trail 125 owner

Hello everyone. I’ve just been reading your posts, and have enjoyed them all.

Thought I could chime in here as a resource in case of any specific questions, as I am one of the lucky few to actually own both the new SuperCub as well as the new Trail 125. Really not bragging. I’m just a huge fan of small Honda bikes and like many grew up riding the Trail 90.

Over my life I’ve owned and restored several Trail 90’s and also a Trail 110. But never owned a classic Super Cub.

I bought both bikes new. I had heard of each “possibly” coming as real bikes back when they were just whispers. I reached out to multiple dealerships and asked to be put on any “waiting lists” months before they were even rumored to actually be produced.

Then as each was actually confirmed for production - I checked in with those same dealers and sales folks. Then as each was released in Europe/Asia, and still rumored to “maybe” come to the US...I did it again.

Months before actual US released was announced, I had myself on several dealer’s informal waiting lists. Then once confirmed, I reached out again asking to leave an actual credit card deposit. Think you see the pattern...

I have been and always will be a “fanboy” of these little bikes and just had to own one of the new ones.

At release, when it was confirmed that dealers would only get one them that first release year...the dealer pressure became incredible. Many dealer managers and owners were planning to keep that first model and not even sell it.

In the end, having multiple irons in the fire and following up repeatedly and regularly....I managed to buy that first “unicorn” from a Bay Area dealer.
I got the 2019 SuperCub, and of course the 2021 Trail 125.

Currently only have about 600 miles on the SuperCub and about 75 on the Trail 125. I have 3 other big bikes too...
I’m an older guy and have had health issues of late, but plan to get more riding in on both soon.

Anyway, they’re both amazing little machines. True rolling artwork that SuperCub.

So feel free to ask any questions about either. I’ll see if I can figure how to post some pics of them here.

Best,

Wow cool you got the blue one I wanted to get the blue one but they only sold it for one year. They say that the different color blues are suppose to represent the sky and ocean and the red was Mr Honda's favorite color. The 2019 model was suppose to commemorate Honda's 60th Anniversary, so i don't know when they will sell another blue one but it a collectors bike now.

Speaking of the trail if you watch the newest episode of Super Cub Reiko rides her Postal Cub on the trail of Fujisan (Mt. Fuji). She gets a summer job working on the trails of Mount Fuji so she ride her cub on the trail. Man that look like it would be a lot of fun. If you ask me she was trying too hard, if she just took her time she could have made it to the top. Because I've learned from riding the Cub is it will get you there it'll just take a long time. I've ridden up Mt. Fuji as far as you can go on pavement from the North and South roads. It's like the most beautiful mountain in the world.

I wish they called it the Hunter Cub here. They had to give it a boring American name like Trail.

They called the new one Trail, because they've always had that name here, and of course they want to try and cash in on nostalgia. I wish we could get the green version here. It's basically an Olive Drab, and makes it look like a miniature military vehicle, lol.

Mike : How are the ergonomics of the Trail compared to the Cub? Similar?

Ergonomics between the SuperCub and Trail 125 are quite close, as you’d expect. The SuperCub is a little tighter in the cockpit so smaller riders may find it a bit better. My wife prefers the Cub. Now that I have the new Trail, she’s making a case for me to give her the Cub (which I’ll happily do...will be fun riding around town together).

I’d say the Trail has slight edge on the seat...just a bit more cushion and bit bigger. (But for seat comfort on bikes these sized....nothing beats the Suzuki VanVan. That seat is a sofa! We actually owned a matching pair of those bikes too...but alas can’t keep them all)

For me as a 6’ rider, I’d give the edge to the Trail for ergonomics. But the Cub is fine and have ridden it all-day with no complaints. I do love the red seat!

Thank you, that is an excellent comparison.

Ah, the Vanvan, another difficult to locate moto! I had a TW200, and miss it dearly. The Vanvan looks like a nice alternative, a more road focused, more comfortable version of the TW. Wish I could own them all, little bikes are fun!

There was a brand of shock (don't remember) that had all the features of the Olins I did buy, a couple hund cheaper. I went for the front & rear package only available from Honda/Olins

The seat on my monkey is sofa quality too, but I still love my TW,
it's the granny first gear, not the seat, that does it for me.

Hey Guys, life changes happening, have to sell the Supercub, its currently in a container with the rest of my stuff, but if anyone is interested in buying after the 17th of this month, let me know, I also have a dented Yoshimura Exhaust ( the bike was not dropped but a mustang pulled a uturn into me and hit it ) . I am located in san jose, but can drive it a good distance. Just drumming up interest :)
