2021 Ford Bronco - shots fired

Curious to see what people come up with as far as antenna mounting options as well.

You know, with modern antenna designs and stuff like shark fins instead of previously traditional antennae, I'm wondering if there might be a way to integrate antennae into roof rails...or if it would even work well if you did.

I'm looking forward to seeing how standardized all the accessories and mounts are. If they basically create a template and tell aftermarket guys "hey, as long as your shit can bolt into this, make whatever you want" I think it'd be a huge win for everyone. Think of it like rail mount systems on guns or pegboard style wall mounting organizer systems - the possibilities are endless.

I have booked my ticket, room, and flight for SEMA in November. Whether I actually attend or not? Dunno yet. Probably a game time decision. But I would imagine the Bronco and all the possible accessories will at this point only be in the Ford booth this year. Don’t think they’re doing like Toyota did with the Supra and letting the tuners have a car early to play with. So while it could easily dominate the entire hall of truck accessories that is normally filled with overland fitted Wranglers and Raptors, I think the Bronco will be conspicuously absent this year.

But next year...they may as well just rename the whole damn show to “Stuff for your new Bronco!”

Those types of designs work great for receive, but I need transmit capability. :cool

So YOU'RE the one spreadin' that 'rona 5g virus! :rofl

I'd imagine the standard spare-tire-arm antenna mounts will be available first, followed by the bumper mounts, followed by the roll bar / frame mounts.

In all seriousness though, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to build an antenna into the roof rail that unfolds and stands up when need be and then can be tucked down and stowed when you don't need it.

Something where from the side your roof rail would go from this :

I'd probably go with a 2M/70cm dual band antenna on a mount out the driver side of the hood in reality.

Surprisingly, the Magnum can see 20+ MPG if it's cruising at 65 and MDS is enabled, so it switches to 4cyl mode or whatever.

That, like, NEVER happens though :laughing

:laughing

Kelly's Jeep has that crap and her 5.9 has never seen higher than 17.8 MPG to my knowledge. That includes our cross-country trips with cruise enabled.

I really don't understand why trucks are so expensive these days. Even used truck prices are insane.

When I was in college one of my buddies bought a brand new Ford Ranger from the dealer for $12K. It had the roll up windows but it was actually affordable for a work truck. These days a Ranger starts at $25K...

Trucks of yore have literally nothing in common with today's trucks other than the fact that they have a bed. You're also forgetting about all the federally required safety equipment that I guarantee wasn't mandatory for manufacturers to build into vehicles back when your buddy bought his Ranger. The last one I bought new before my 2019 was a 2000 Ranger 4X2 XLT single-cab with the three-liter V6 and a five-speed manual transmission. Even in 1999 that truck cost almost $17,000. Do the conversion to 2020 dollars and that equates to about $26,500. My 2019 4X4 XLT Ranger crew cab was right around $33,000 and I didn't get any incentives since I bought in the first year they came out. Ranger 4X2 extended cabs can still be had for under $25,000 with incentives right now and they'd run circles around any old Ranger in terms of quality and value for the dollar.

I think some people just forgot that inflation is making the cost of everything go up and $10,000 pickup trucks are one of them. Things like that never will exist again and, quite frankly, that's a good thing. They're not on the same playing field whatsoever. Although, you can get a Nissan Frontier that is running on the same platform that Nissan released when Bush Jr. was in office. They're cheap...in more ways than one. :laughing

Other than CES (which was the last one before everything shutdown), it’s one of the biggest conventions in town.

It sure as hell still sounds like they have every intention of doing SEMA and AAPEX this year. There’s been some emails about the COVID-19 precautions they’re taking they have sent out. But it absolutely doesn’t sound like they are even thinking of cancelling.

In the current state of the world, I just don’t see how it can fly. That many people in close proximity? I’m sure attendance will be waaaay down, but I still don’t see how they can pull it off.

there is a jalopnik article that says ford confirmed that base model+ manual transmission + sasquatch package won't actually be available. lame

"we are open to feedback blah blah blah"

guess i'll stick with the landcruiser

$100 deposit to generate a bunch of cash right away and holding back the stripper special for while? What are they, Tesla now?

The one to get if you really want to flex on all those G wagons in the Nordstrom parking lot get max suspension articulation and travel is the Badlands edition. That’s the only one that comes with the hydraulically coupled anti roll bar, which honestly is probably the coolest tech on the whole truck.

Maybe, but it's not just about weight. I doubt the aerodynamics for this new Bronco are any good, and especially the variants with the massive tires are going to give a lot of rolling resistance which can kill MPG ratings. I did not realize that weight figures had even been announced for the Bronco though.

I've gotten 23-24 MPG driving through the mountains in our 2019 Rubicon JL with the ecotorque engine.

Demand is through the roof, that is why truck prices are so expensive

I think this time it's more a supply thing where dealers aren't making deals due to limited supply, Fred. This time....

That may be the case right now. Pre COVID it was the other way around.

was talking to a dude a few days ago who has a high level professional white collar job, but also has a side business of buying used vehicles and repairing / upgrading and flipping them. he said due to COVID, the market is nuts right now for all recreational / road trippy vehicles - especially motor homes and camper trailers (e.g. his most recent flip sold for well above original retail for a used vehicle). dude knows i ride, and told me that if we are considering selling any of our bikes, now is the time for that too (that market has heated up as well according to his experience).

That swaybar is indeed cool. I'll use it even less than the lockers tho. Maybe in should look for a used Gwagen. They can have lockers too

M-B of Stevens Creek had a 4x4 Squared on the front pad a couple months ago. You know, the one with Portals. Bet that thing can get into some trouble off road.

God dammit I want this new Bronco! How did Ford get this so right and Land Rover totally whiffed (to me at least) on the rebirth of the Defender?

It's becoming clear that I should just find another unimog. Definitely need a DOKA this time
