Los Padres
So a KLR & 1090R are sorta Compatible…
Sold my trusty old KLR to a buddy at work… He loves it.. We took a mini-adventure ride to Los Padres National Forest..
I packed up my Shiny new KTM 1090R and was ready to get out of the city..
Easy ride down Hwy 1 to Carmel and then Carmel Valley Road to Ft Hunter Liggett..
While traveling through Hunter Liggett a passing truck flagged us down and warned us about the slippery water crossings, but it wasn’t a problem even for the KLR noob. I’d been trough here in April and the water was axle deep and moving faster. Now it’s just a few inches.
We just avoided the dark areas in the water, that’s the slippery part.
I made the KLR Haul a little bundle of firewood,
We got a late start because we had to change the wheels on the KLR to the Knobbies, and install a front tire on one of them too.. We got to Los Padres about 6:30p but plenty of time to set up across from these cool cliffs
Camped with nobody else around.. it was getting dark so it's a super crappy pic.
When it got dark we busted out the Adjustafork and made dinner.
In the morning we were in the fog zone.. It was cool.
The Ride out in and out of this area is on easy dirt roads..
We headed up Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd to go over Prewitt Ridge to Hwy 1 – It’s always so cool going over that hill into and out of the fog..
Can almost see the blue ocean here.
The reward when we dropped below the fog was crystal clear coastline all the way home.
Super fun..
The KLR got 56.2 MPG’s and used a quart of oil… The KTM got 45.3 at the best, but that’s because I followed the KLR and didn’t ride like I normally do…
