woke up to rain and a rainbow on Thursday morning.

the Bennett Juniper, looking happy after 4000 years ...

the rain gave my KLR issues. It stopped running and we had to strip it and put in a new spark plug before we could recall it to its duty ...

a thunder-shower over Buckeye Hot Spring, from Silver Creek Road.

the view of Bridgeport from Masonic Mountain ... we were going to try to camp up here on Thursday night, but thunderstorms convinced us to camp at Buckeye Hot Springs instead ...

the road to the Bodie ghost-town and Potato Peak from Masonic Mountain. you can see the road to Bodie we took on the right-hand side of the Potato Mtn pic ...

the fun way to get to Bodie ...

we took a left at Bodie to ride down through Aurora Canyon, and soon enough were passing the famous old stone-building ruin ...

our first clue that things along Aurora Canyon may no longer be as I recalled. an abandoned car blocking the road ...

we decided to try to turn around once the road disappeared ...

we side-stand-turned the KLRs around and were ready to ride back up. Loaded KLRs definitely are easier to ride down this stuff than back up, imo.

I tend to only try to ride my KLR where a Honda Accord, or maybe a high clearance 4x4 can go, so there was no way I was going to ride into that long wash-out ... happy to report that we ultimately extracted ourselves ...

we finally made it to Hawthorne, where it turned out Kalle had a pinch-flat. With CJ providing color commentary Kalle soon had the flat fixed in the El Capitan parking lot ...

visiting Glacier Point on the way home on Sunday, enjoying Sierra Club Sno-camping style "pizza" ...

Cool I rode all of those before great riding. I don't remember Aurora Canyon looking like that, but it's been a while. I know I made it all the way to Bodie though, that's definitely the fun way to Bodie.

Here's a few from my weekend. I was in the Bridgeport area, exploring similar roads.

Penon Blanco road, near Coulterville.




Dirt road between Long Barn & Dodge Ridge, call the Sierra Grandstand Tour. about 13 miles, worth a look.

The road to Leavitt Lake. It's a bit lumpy in some spots.

Some of the roads above the Marine base, at Pickle Meadows. I had a track that showed a path through to Walker, but it did not work out.
