Oh man...my brother rode from Vienna to Cape Town on a Tenere of roughly that vintage in 1989...he was 23 years old at the time and I was an impressionable 11 year old. I thought he was such a badass!

more about the bike:

tl/dr: electric/kick start, set up with an redundant ignition system that works without a battery, 340 lbs, 6 gallons of gas, 38 hp, carburetor, low 8.5:1 compression for bad Baja/barrel gas, no safety switches, no instruments …
