All the sh!t talk about Harley Davidison

Uhhm, you sound bitter.

I have ridden and owned a Harley. 1200 sporty, torque monster and fast as hell. Problem is my friend I have a need for speed other than the straight line motor monster. You can do many things with a Harley, simple and deal breaking problem is you cant make a Harley stop. When I grow up I wanna cruise my Harley Road King into the sunset with a 20 year old beauty with a daddy complex wrappin her arms around me. Until then I wll stick with my rice rocket that stops on a dime and thus live to see another day.

Um.... My harley stops better than most bikes... tripple Brembos with ABS...:|

Put and aftermarket luggage rack on the chop today...

for $3.16 worth of rebar and five minutes with the MIG.

Good looking bike. My guess is that you know what you are talking about so let me run this by you........

Need some new pipes for the '01 dyna. Like the staggered slash cuts but hate heat shields. Why do ppl worry bout blueing on pipes then paint flames on the tank:wtf Just unnecessary b.s. imho.

Tried the ARs but not a fan of the welded flange where they mount to the heads. A pain to mount on the front jug and stress the exhaust stud more than it has to. Went through 2 pair of cycle shack and both cracked at the baffle. The last one a week ago........360 degrees. Pipe still lined up so it wasn't like they were mounted poorly and stressed. Was even considering a thunder header but they look like crap and the front header bangs into the frame on the dyna. Would go w/ the supertrap in s/s for the '01 but for the '07 they hang too low look like they would drag.

Can't find anything else out there......slash cut or strait cut w/o shields. Can you get baffles for strait pipes to get some back pressure? The 88" is stock except for Maki (sp?) 503 cams, fueling lifters and a K&N. Has about 100k mi on her.

Thanks..........ob

Never done it myself, but you can make a tunable baffle. Buy 1/4"x1" thumb screw or take a 3/4" outside diameter washer and weld it to the top of a 3/4" x 1/4" bolt. Now Drill a 1/4" hole about 1" from the end of the drag pipes. Take the tunable baffle and place a 1/4" nut and a lock washer (away from the large washer) on it. Now insert your tunable baffle into the exhaust pipe.

Also, there is, or was, an old dude in Nevada who made reverse megaphone pipes for American twins, he made me a set for an 01 Ducati Monster of mine. I have no idea what his shop was called, this was in like 2004. With that said, if you don't want straight pipes but wand loud and back-pressure, look for a rev-meg.

Lastly, I am a huge fan of Thunderheaders.

Have an article stored away somewhere in the garage about a baffle like the one you discribed. Probably will try that on the cycle shack pipes I just cut the remaining baffle off of.
Would put up w/ the ugly welds on the thunder header but hate paying for a pipe that is so poorly thought out that it gets dented by the frame. Have seen a few of them crack on the dynas also. They do perform well from what I hear.
Damn............w/ all the aftermarket pipes out there you would think someone would make a decent unshielded pipe.

Thanks again........ob

They make power and they are cool..... until you deal with customer service...:x

Heard that too. Can't be anyworse than Buzz at cycle shack. Met him and he seems ok, but he actually threated to turn me into the FCC blah blah blah for saying "fuck" on the phone. We had a good laugh at that one w/ an indepenant shop in Ventura.

I can't see any reason to buy a $30,000 Japanese bike that is heavy as hell and constantly breaks down.

I suppose Brembos w/ ABS magically overcome these factors:

1) Bike weight
2) Bike length
3) Steering geometry and rake
4) Tire size (i.e. contact patch)
5) Dive or anti dive mechanism
6) Sprung mass

I would venture to guess your Harley stops as good as my 1991 CBR1000F......

Nope I ment what I said. Unlike other bikes I can smash on the brakes and not worry about looping or locking up the tires. It stops a lot faster than one would expect. My bike is long and low with a big rear tire. You would be suprised how fast and how well it stops. It stops faster and safer than my Buell.

Get it street legal! :laughing

And motovader, with a skilled rider, a cruiser will outstop a sportbike. Longer wheelbase and not stoppie limited like sportbikes. A cruiser can brake up to the limit of traction on both tires, a sportbike will stoppie before it hits max braking on the front.

2/3/4/5 are all weighted in favor of the cruiser, and 1 and 6 are essentially the same thing.

Beauregard,

now that's a v nice Sporty, eh?
a 'special interest' machine if there ever was 1

gotta be $25k in ['new' prices] parts there.....

I could never understand why people spend excessive amounts of money on a motorcycle that needs even more excessive amounts of money to get it to stop and go and handle properly. Why can't Harley make them that way to begin with?

(Flame on.....:twofinger)

You'd venture wrong , it's about the chassis dymanics involved , this specific topic has been done to death before on BARF , with all sorts of folks posting the real world stopping figures.

In some respects it's kinda like buying an aftermarket exhaust or steel braided lines and wave rotors or an Ohlins rear for a late model liter bike; will the aftermarket goodies make the bike faster or handle better in your hands? Maybe. Do they make it cool? Fuck yeah.

And Aprilias go 210 mph with a 17/38 sprocket setup too.

WIN.
