Another car/SUV thread - Jeep Grand Cherokee vs Dodge Durango

ok, does anyone spend 45k on a vehicle they plan on 4 wheelin like in your second picture? my point is very, very, very few actually care about rear lockers. for 45k i could buy a truck, a trailer, and a dedicated wheeler. rule number 2 for a wheeler is make sure its not your daily driver. i make fun of my buddy who has a decked out brand new jeep with super swampers and lives in san francisco. alot of these 4 wheelin vehicles sold today only see curbs in grocery store parking lots.

its like buying a truck with a six foot bed. are you serious?

I learned when I was a little kid, not to concern myself with how people spend their money.

I absolutely love it when people do this. When they get tired of it in 2 years I buy it up for 50% of what they have into it. After putting another 120k miles on it off she goes to craigslist. Got all my 4x4's and trucks out of Sacramento and the Bay Area.

Do you have to finance your purchase, and/or can you wait for a bit and save up enough cash? Lisc/registration on a new rig is damn expensive.

Surprisingly, no not necessarily. I looked at an SXT vs a Citadel and aside from a few extra buttons for butt warmers and leather vs cloth/synthetic seats they're far closer than previous generations between trim levels - hence my comment on being fine with a base model w/ V8 vs the premium. Heck, you can even get the butt warmers and heated steering wheel separately with the cloth seats and such - just no V8 / upgraded transmission.

2015 Citadel's with 10K miles or so are about $40K wholesale. If you can get one for $38K brand new, that's a good deal Pete.

I'm fully engrossed in the what/ why people spend their money on, for reasons of understanding how to pull money out of people.

TrueCar only has the RT configurable for an AWD / V8, but considering it's a higher base price anyway I think it should be pretty close to what a Citadel would run me.

Discounts include dodge loyalty, USAA, Military, current sales, current incentives, and one or two other things I don't remember because I closed the page now.

That's a good deal, Pete.

Try to use the usaa car buying service. Quotes from local dealers are pretty good. Bought my last escape that way.

Seems like a huge waste of time to me, but you seem like the kind of guy with plenty of free time in his hands.:thumbup

I want to know how anyone finds their way to these things. Do they say, "I've done all the research and it's very clear that it's a quality, reliable vehicle"...? I'm pretty sure the sales of the GC/Durango is nearly 100% due to the exact opposite of that.

I'm thinking used Range Rover L322 with a lift and a spring conversion. I'd take that bad boy down to Mexico and throttle the fuck out of it. 6000k mile trip in a Range Rover should be just as exciting as a night at the craps tables. Will I make it or will I be walking home from Mexico? :laughing

Pray tell, how exactly did you arrive at that conclusion?

Nuh uh, no shortcuts for u. Just buy one of those rolling abortions and we can hold a lessons learned meeting at a later time.

Let's look at it another way. Go find the worst car of 2014/15, or really any horrible model of any horrible year, then lookup how many sold the following year, then explain how those sold. I'll give ya a hint, it wasn't because they did their due diligence. :p

Also, being bad with your money, or researching something poorly, isn't exactly a window into your soul and make one an idiot. Suggesting so...maybe. :laughing

Maybe they don't care as long as it's still under warranty?

What the fuck is anyone going to do with only a 6 foot bed? Quad cab 8 foot or buy a ridgeline like everyone else that only needs it for potting soil

Remember the Ford Stepside or Sportside or whatever it was called? Back in the 80's? The fuck was that, a 4 or 5 foot bed? They were popular, but personally I thought they looked stupid, with that ugly step built into the sides.
