another car thread: new, econobox x2

new isn't a requirement so much anymore. certified used is OK too. good commute-ability and a warranty/reliability are paramount.

i'd like to see a little better than 25mpg around town, but if we see one around we'll take a look.

any idea how prevalent the 6 speed manual was when they were new? autos dominate the new car lots unless it's some special model.

Mmmm...I think RobSJ can answer the auto/manual percentage question better than I but the manual is the nicest one I've had in all my years of driving, (far better than the one in my Miata...which is very good).

AB, if thinking slightly used and being an Audi guy, how about an A3 TDI quatro? A bit above the $20K budget on my wholesale numbers, not too far off...and you seem to like the Audi product (of which I think that model is excellent).

Is the auto tranny better now? I wanted to buy one a while back but I just couldn't bring myself to like it.

You're getting rid of the troublesome audi and considering a troublesome audi?

Dude, really?

no, now keeping the troublesome audi because the latest trouble was a case of "i can't afford to buy cheap parts" :mad

the car itself is fine enough.

entertaining the audi idea because they're preeeeeety and i'm not good at learning life lessons

my parents have the older fusion. 80k miles, its only 3 years old or something. runs like a champ.

For well under 20K - dead reliable - and very fun to drive, i'd find a '00 ish Type-R.

Only caveat is that you couldn't park it anywhere. Theft rate is very high on this car. But if you can find a stock/clean/unmolested one, and you're just using it to commute. I can't think of any other car that would make me more giddy.

Take rate on manuals has always been pretty low. Maybe 5% on the TSX, and much lower on the TL. So used manuals are hard to find for sure.

How about a 2006 RSX Type-S? It's got some of the RSX Type-R bits on it and overall is a much better car the the older Integra.

Waitaminute... I didn't think there was such an animal.

Any two of the three, yes... but all 3? :shocker

also it seems there is no manual tranny TDI at all. Only S-tronic auto. And the S-tronics are really slushboxes with a gate-stick, no?

Maybe 'Berto' has the one magic year with the one manual transmission TDI quattro available in the B.A. Who knows.

All 3 does not appear to exist in the US. Stronic is not an auto in the classic sense. Dual clutch computer controlled manual. There is also a regular 6 speed, but 2.0turbo gas motor inly

My ride is a Prius lease, model 2. Rides great, reliable. 46 mpg. Best car I have purchased. I thought I would hate it and I love it.

Just ordered a volt for the lady. White, loaded. Expecting good things, moreso after reading Robs comments. $8000 rebate, plus carpool sticker for 2 years. Cant go wrong under a lease, give it back after......

intersting EV. very interesting

8k rebate does is part of what drives the lease rate down according to the internet, the leasing company gets it. that's fine with me. looks like about 3k down and ~300/month at the moment

in november it was 160/ month :O

rob, or others in the know:
what does it take as far as Chevy proprietary equipment to charge at 220v? i don't have that in my garage but my cousin in law is an electrician and the breaker box is easy to get to. single phase right?
