BARF getting a poser rep.???

ambitiousone said:
Me! Me! Me! I'm a poser. Me slow. Me in SF. I love taking poseur pics of me and my bike. Here's an example below. I even had to learn a little photoshop to put it together. See, I love me soo freakin much. Ultimate poser. When I, like, first got on my leathers, everybody got on my case about my virgin and shiny kneepucks. So one day after getting so pissed off about people ragging on me, I just borrowed a dremel and grinded them a bit. Even did a little heat to mimic the dark tar of T-hill. :twofinger

But I don't even join the SF rides anymore cuz I'm just too plain slow. :p People are off their bikes and done with smoking a stick by the time I arrive. But ah, I'm the ultimate sweeper though. Knows what to do in a situation. I just take my leisurely time when I arrive at the next stop. Just in time to pose. :twofinger

this goes with the current SF poser rule right?

You have to wear black and be part of the counter culture that snickers at the southern california culture.. right?

Aries.. you got the black thing going.

i dare anyone to go out in SF and find someone who wears light color clothes.. :)

I think what I should have said earlier on in this thread is:

*** Hey everybody, look -- it's another contentious thread brought to you by the diminutive oompaloompas at RobertR1Co! ***

I ended up on the BARF ride inadvertantly.

I did not want to ride w/the BARF group. Nothing personal, but I don't put days aside for socializing. I wanted to *RIDE* ... original plans for a small group of 3 or 4 turned into the idea of meeting for lunch and then the small group taking off, to the whole group going ... I went along because I had brought some people with me, one of which was a newbie who had never done any curvy road riding ... and it seemed a very positive experience for him ...

Although I did enjoy the socializing (cuz' all the peeps there are helleva kewl), I was rather edgy and pissed off internally because the only way I was going to get what I have been missing for months since I moved to norcal was going to be to take off from the group and be rude, which I didn't want to do.

The ride took a billion years (but then my plan had been to take back roads to 101 and totally avoid the backside of skaggs which is way too narrow and i knew would be wet) ... but I think the long day was good for me, it's been awhile since I've spent that much time on my bike (even if the whole time i kept wishing i had a bike that had a bit more horsepower so i could do wheelies) ...

I have had quite a bit of experience with group rides ... and choose not to do them. I prefer to have a stable set of people to ride with whom I can get to know and trust ... this is how I learned to ride, and it is what works best for me ...

I think if I was able to get out and ride as much as I prefer to ... I would definately be more up for group rides, to have long lunches and chit chat and stuff ... right now, when the sun is out and there's a few dry patches ... all I can think about is going out and getting my butt off the seat ... continuing my learning ... try to get off this fucking platau I've been on for awhile ...

...

oh and get this ...

on a mailing list i'm on, i was accused of being a bad person to ride with because i didn't stop to help melissa ... yet i was already far enough ahead that i did not know anything had happened ... and knew there were people behind her. so apparently i will be known as a deserter ...

(rolls eyes)

For someone not even registered on BARF sure have the most popular thread lately both on SBF and BARF and managed to get the support and flaming of both sides....

My only question is....

Why was a new rider to a BARF ride/social left alone to ride by herself in a very technical area of Stewarts Point/ Skaggs Rd that was new to her and get into an accident with no witnesses...?

Where was everyone else...?

I was the person directly in front of her. Prior the point in which I lost view of her, I could still see lights from bikes behind her which were somewhat at a distance (a few corners behind). I was following behind someone else and chose to stay with him so that neither of us would be alone. In my mind she wasn't alone, only because I didn't realize the others were so far behind (i have no idea how far behind they actually were).

From my perspective, she didn't really seem to know where she belonged in the group. Often times when beginning from a stop, she was putting herself up near the front ...

The way I see it, if the group is going to put so much emphasis on beginner riders not being left alone, then newbies need to be put in their spot and kept there. Period.

I learned to ride with an extremely advanced group, who would just go ahead and do their thing. If it took me a bit long to get to the top, someone would come down and look for me (generally it's because i stopped to take pictures or something).

I think it's good to offer support and guidance to new riders, however ... I do believe it is the individuals responsibility to know their limits, and act accordingly. To say otherwise, you might as well blame everyone else for her accident.
