oh and get this ...

on a mailing list i'm on, i was accused of being a bad person to ride with because i didn't stop to help melissa ... yet i was already far enough ahead that i did not know anything had happened ... and knew there were people behind her. so apparently i will be known as a deserter ...

If you were in front of her and didn't see it happen, you wouldn't have known. Can't always look behind and keep an eye on riders in back. That's why there's a sweeper.

It was good riding with you. Hope you fix your waterpump thingiemabob.

I will, when I get $$ ... the leak got considerably worse since saturday so I looks like I'm basically without transportation until the pay check after the one I'm getting this wed ... (yay) ...

Why do I hear so many stories of people running wide/crossing double yellow on group rides??? I think people need to examine their own riding and be quick to point out to others when they makes such mistakes. Most of the time riders run wide coming into the corner thinking they can't make it. They simply pick up the bike and go straight off.

Next time you start to panic going into a turn just TELL yourself in the helmet to relax, look thru the turn and lean the bike. It will work for you majority of the time, esp. on the street.

This guy has made some very valid points about seeing brakes mid corner, running wide, dbl yellow, target fixation etc. etc. etc. These are all very REAL problems and should be addressed to make group rides safer for all members. I was hoping to see someone step up and acknowledge the real issues at hand but once again, no such luck.

Also, no offense but the Group A members usually don't give a shit about the rest of the group. They are usually having a good time with a friendly cat and mouse game amongst the leaders. Worry about your own ride and check your self when you fuck up. You might not get too many more chances.

A person would learn to ride faster, safer and be advance much quicker if they teamed up with only a handful of people rather than a huge group.

In no way do I think, ersigh is a deserter. There were 5 of us helping Melissa - Eric, Jimmy and Kevyn took take of Melissa, the car drivers, the police & Melissa's bike, I kept watch for vehicles coming up the blind turn & calming Robert's (a newbie rider) nerves and Sinh, the sweeper, rode ahead to catch up with the people infront to tell them what had happened & possibly get more help. Enough people to handle the situation. No need for the 5 people ahead to turn back and help. Also, where the accident happened, it was not safe for the bikers and bikes to be parked.

I wonder who was this d00d talking shit. I was there for the ride and no one was complaining.

No one was very eager to go into the fast group ones we got to Skags ether.

Jesus christ, a RobertR1 post that I agree with? man, I feel... soiled :twofinger :laughing

Um, he doesn't like Skaggs. That should tell you enough right there. Must be a right southern-shandy drinking nesh-puff-bastid shirt-lifting nancy-boy...

Ask F4i chick for a translation if you can't figure it out ;)

And what, he's never crashed? Ah well...

Tell him to go on the Cochelle (spelling, John?) ride if he wants to crap himself.

I never heard any one referred to as "group A", but the people in front, rode a consistent pace that EVERYONE was keeping with all the way to the bottom of skaggs. They weren't messing around or playing games at all. It was not until Skagg's that everyone stopped traveling in a pack and broke up into groups.

This is being discussed as if Melissa was at fault, which by looking at pictures, she clearly is not. So then, what difference does it make if the group with with her or not? She did not make a newbie mistake in that instance. She was at the wrong place at the wrong time ...

What if Melissa had been w/the group that was behind her? What further damage could have been done to other riders?

I'm not disagreeing with your points about mistakes that people make while riding. However, I think the guy who posted on SBF is full of shit. A lot of the things he was talking about simply did not happen ... or are not true ... (such as Vicki wearing platform shoes or people racing on straight sections) ...

You would not believe the reaming I'm getting from this schmuck on the norcal sv list ... guff.

(scratches nose)

Why close the thread??? The only problem I see with this thread is peoples blatant disregard for the issues at hand and turning it into a mockery.

This isn't an attack at you mrtnz, just a general statement.

On a serious note, was Skaggs from the bottom to the Bridge dry??? Me and my friends were going to finish up our Berryessa with Skaggs but it was getting too dark, fast.

What the hell is that thing sticking out of the side of you bike? Is that a footrest? Man, that's long (about 14"...I KNOW)!
