on a mailing list i'm on, i was accused of being a bad person to ride with because i didn't stop to help melissa ... yet i was already far enough ahead that i did not know anything had happened ... and knew there were people behind her. so apparently i will be known as a deserter ...

Robert R1 said:Why do I hear so many stories of people running wide/crossing double yellow on group rides??? I think people need to examine their own riding and be quick to point out to others when they makes such mistakes. Most of the time riders run wide coming into the corner thinking they can't make it. They simply pick up the bike and go straight off.
Next time you start to panic going into a turn just TELL yourself in the helmet to relax, look thru the turn and lean the bike. It will work for you majority of the time, esp. on the street.
This guy has made some very valid points about seeing brakes mid corner, running wide, dbl yellow, target fixation etc. etc. etc. These are all very REAL problems and should be addressed to make group rides safer for all members. I was hoping to see someone step up and acknowledge the real issues at hand but once again, no such luck.
Also, no offense but the Group A members usually don't give a shit about the rest of the group. They are usually having a good time with a friendly cat and mouse game amongst the leaders. Worry about your own ride and check your self when you fuck up. You might not get too many more chances.
A person would learn to ride faster, safer and be advance much quicker if they teamed up with only a handful of people rather than a huge group.
