Barf Slow Your Roll" Lane Splitting Campaign

I want...

Be like a :banana and split! :ride

The two real benefits to lane splitting and riding a motorcycle are:

1. Environmentally friendly

2. Less traffic congestion

Riding a motorcycle is a low impact form of street transportation yet so many look at riding as a sport, something only done for the danger, the speed, the imagine and so on.

Unlike this country, the motorcycle was key in the rebuilding of some war torn countrys after WWII. There would be Ducati if there was no war. They saw the motorcycle as cheap form of transportion.

This country never really has looked at riding a motorcycle like this. Maybe it's time.

I know it's way cheaper to use my seca than my van, needs less road to go from point a to b than my van, uses less oil and tires than my van, pollutes less than my van.

Actually riding a motorcycle shows one cares for the environment....more so than driving a car.

great stuff... totally agree and that is certainly part of a valid argument for motorcycling.

"Get home faster... let a motorcycle share the lane."

For another perspective on using turn signals: I wish the CHP would mount a campaign to change our perspective on signalling in general. (It CAN be done: look at the anti-smoking campaign).

In Europe, when a car signals, it announces their intention, what they are going to do, and other drivers allow for that. This makes things smooth and reduces accidents.

Here, when a car signals, it is asking for permission and the ego-driven response is to speed up and not let cars in. This is, I think, one cause behind cars not signalling and darting over; they feel they must use the element of surprise in order to change lanes.

Maybe, it's possible to switch our perceptions and have people realize that courtesy is actually in their best self-interest. (Probably not.)

Oh you me like how we all take turns merging onto the freeway or into a toll plaza! :)

Yes, I mean how we COULD behave. That we don't is maybe a function of not be raised with traffic circles! Or a hyper competitive culture instead of a cooperative culture.

In my experience, actually ALLOWING signaling vehicles to do what they wish gives me much more satisfaction, keeps my heart rate down, AND I get a friendly wave instead of the middle finger.

and actually keeps the roads and/or bay bridge moving (as well as other areas where merging exists). It's definitely societal, with the epitome being a Costco, Ranch 99, or Outlet Mall, parking lot :laughing

Well this was an idea from last year that was acted upon.

That's a great video, Eric. I often wonder what my delta really is. Though the suggestion of riding along a row of parked cars has been suggested before, I've never done it. From your video, it's apparent I'm within the 15mph delta 99% of my splitting.

Good idea! When ever I see someone blazing through, I say to myself, "I hope he doesn't learn the hard way"! - THE HARD WAY HURTS!

Great idea.

I'm up for that. However, if they don't like us lane splitting then we should file complaints against smartphoning drivers. "Stop texting, eyes on road!"

Besides people have no say anymore because the lot of them are text-driving which is just as bad as noobs lane splitting way too fast.

And who suffers the most for either?

Stickers (first run) are done and soon to be had at Cycle Gear at no cost.

Shirts on a test run and some vests too are in the works.

Shirts and vests will cost a bit. Hoping to help fund a little of this with those.
Website RFQ is out to one web dude as we have decided to separate from barf.

Just wanted to let you know this has not died. Rather I have been taking steps behind the scenes to make a big push in 2016.

Obviously you have seen some of the mayhem on the road and if you have a noodle realize this shit is real. We need to get out in front of this, but we are not. We are behind the eightball.

Will post up shirt graphics soons and getting some preordered will help.
Vests to follow in a bit with support from Cycle Gear.

Thanks.

I think this is a good idea to engender politeness. I am a big advice of waving to those making room. If someone doesn't, no big deal make your way around. +15 is a decent delta, but the average joe won't distinguish 15 from 20. Smart is to just be polite

^ ^ So, let me get this:

1. "The traffic can't be moving more than 35Mph (15 mph delta), for a bike to go up to a MAX 50 mph?

2. And in a way you're right - the average Joe won't know if you're 15/20 over their speed.

3. Drivers ARE becoming aware and tend to give way (moving to the left) to let a bike pass. Some drivers go half way over into the shoulder. In THAT case do you pass? Even if the driver is going 60-70 Mph? I think if you don't pass, it just confuses them more....because they keep waiting for you to pass, so they can get back into the lane from the shoulder....

What's the VERDICT on these.... :ride

As far as our deal is concerned new biker

15 MPH delta
Be respectful.
Done.

I should add.
Engaged a website guy.

We will have tips on it.
My own write up "Art and Science of Lane Sharing"
And more.

The campaign is all about he 15 delta and being polite to our fellow motorist.
