BARF's Biggest Loser, Gainer Maintainers 2016Q4 Edition

I already get my meals prepped for me, cause im lazy AF and really don't want to spend my free time meal prepping. The only meal i cook is breakfast. This makes the diet part easy...except the temptations are hard to control.

I workout 6 days a week already and without cardio i can keep the BF under control. So im just gonna add 20 minutes of cardio in after each workout and that should lower my BF to where i want it without losing muscle mass.

Im at around 17-1800 calories a day already so the cardio should help with that 300-400 calories a day i will burn in fat and not muscle. Again, hopefully. I'll spend the next couple of weeks monitoring things and see if its the right plan or not. Its hard to gain muslce weight and lose BF at the same time, but not impossible...just takes ALOT of patience.

You must have some killer workout.

To everyone, keep motivateddddddddddddddddd! This morning legs were sore from the commute + workout but I keep my goal in mind and that motivates me.

How the hell do you eat only 1700 calories a day?

Not in the same group as the BIG losers, but feels good to be down 30 pounds. Really felt good to go in to have my dress suit taken in.:thumbup I have dropped from just over 200 to 170. Now the challenge is to stay there or drop just a little more.

I left for Alaska on 7/27 at 240, came back at the same after 5 weeks and was 234 yesterday so I'm feeling very good!

Bump.

Keep the motivation going folks.

I don't know my weight but I went from a 36" belt line down to a 32" belt line. Now all of my clothes are way too big :laughing

I went from eating 3 meals a day to one major one (dinner) and some small veggie snacks. I don't know if this is helpful but once I cut down the meal sizes and frequency, I got used to the new regime and it seems normal now. Cook your own food, portion control, and stop eating at restaurants.

Keep going my friends!

Well done!! Stop eating at restaurants is the good.
Regardin one meal.. I've always been told that several meals a days (5-6) increase resting metabolism (more calories burned for the same number of calories ingested).

Regarding my evolution,

Good for you!

Yeah, I used to eat several smaller meals, mostly marinated tofu/tsukemono/homemade fermented pickles/small salads, etc. and that felt good. I dunno when, but I got used to my current regime. Seems to work for me ATM.

I've been cooking for myself for a long time now, so I make what I want and when. The seasoning and flavor is exactly to my liking, not made for the masses like at a restaurant. The side effect is that there are few restaurants that I like, so I guess that makes me fortunate in regards to eating out. Plus I like the fact that when I cook, I know exactly what's in my food. Now I'm getting into brewing my own Kombucha for the flavor and probiotic benefits.

Very good!!!!

I was down to 231.4 two days ago. Been years since I was in the 20's and it is so very close!!!!!

Thanks for the BUMP

Keeping the weight off, down 30+ from the first of the year.
First time ever had to take my suit into Mens Warehouse and have it taken in :banana:banana

Going to ebay my Darin riding pants and buy a smaller pair.

I've been in the 150s for years, when I was running seriously I was in the 130s, but that was too skinny, 3-4% bodyfat. I'm down in the low 140s now for several months, may or may not go down another 3-4 pounds, but there's a fine line between lean and dying.

Sub 5% is in the dying or bodybuilding category...
:laughing
Also, getting much below 8-10% is likely going to have a negative impact in your ability to add muscle/strength.

Water conservation/Weight loss Pro Tip:

"If it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down" is NOT a valid strategy if you're eating asparagus. Trust me.

I've lost 25 lbs since July 23rd, feeling goooooood.

:thumbup

Just spent 3 days in the Craft Beer Capital of the World (San Diego)...I wasn't kind to my healthy lifestyle. Got a 5k run in, which was promising, but the intake choices...were not great.

not looking forward to Friday weigh-in:nchantr

I have always struggled with my weight and have been over 190lbs twice in my life. Once in 2007 and once this year. After seeing and not buying any of my college graduation pics this past May because I was SO fat, I decided to get real about it. Plus I turned 30 last year so I feel like it's now or never for me. I want to have a kid in the next couple years and I want to have a healthy pregnancy, healthy kid, and generally be a cute preggo :p

3 months ago I cut out caffeine and soda completely. I was never a big drinker but I have had maybe 3 glasses of wine since then as well. I started eating out less and eating every few hours, little <200 cal meals made up of meat, cheese, and nuts mostly. Maybe a bowl of raisin bran every couple days. Grapes when I could find a good looking bag at the store, plus apples and oranges occasionally. Dinner would be some kind of protein and maybe a bite or two of whatever starch my bf was eating. I did eat "bad" food when I felt like it but I would only have a few bites vs a meal of it. And by bad foods I mean Chinese or Mexican etc., that kept me from bingeing or feeling deprived. Not eating sweets has never really been an issue for me so I guess I'm lucky that way. I didn't really work out at all up until these past few weeks and even then its just been yoga and some light cardio.

I started at 194 and am currently at 150. I want to be in the 140's tho the number isn't so much important as appearance. I don't want to just be skinny, I want to be fit, and if that means being in the 150's that would be okay. I just signed up with a personal trainer once a week who started at 200lbs 4 years ago and is now competing at an elite weightlifting level. She said she's going to provide me with a macro plan which means I'll have to change up what I've been doing the past few months but I trust her judgement; I knew my sparse eating habits would have to change once I started working out. I start with her next week! Excited but a little intimidated.

Good luck to all!

It was and is! I got sick as hell at that percentage. Never again. The only reason I went that low was that I was running competitively. I looked like a skeleton.

The reasons you mentioned are definitely a great source of motivation. And you seem to do great, 44pounds in a few months, wow!
When I first lost weight, 4 years ago, I stopped focusing on the weight and more on the BF percentage which seems to be a better indicator. Also, not feeling hungry by eating slowly help to keep a stable loss and avoid the rebound effect.

Also, people who are in the athletics side of the spectrum tend to have more than 3 meals a day, to keep the metabolism going. A friend is having 6 meals a day.... I tried, and my apple watch show me that by doing so, my resting metabolic rate increased by 50-100calories a day.

Rebekah and you all, keep the motivation going! This is so great!

Info: 500cal gap (what you burn - what you eat) per day (3.5k a week) lead to a 1 pound loss a week.
So if target to lose 1pound a week, if your resting metabolic rate is 1800 and you burn 400cal per day through exercice, your intake should not be more than
1800+400-500= 1700cal/day.
Without exercice, 1800-500=1300cal/day. This is dangerous though.

I started at 194 and am currently at 150.

That was mind-blowing I had to read this twice. You just casually mentioned "oh yeah btw I dropped 44 lbs in only 3 months."

Huge congratulations, that's quite a lifestyle change! :thumbup
