BARF's Biggest Loser, Gainer Maintainers 2016Q4 Edition

That was mind-blowing I had to read this twice. You just casually mentioned "oh yeah btw I dropped 44 lbs in only 3 months."

Huge congratulations, that's quite a lifestyle change! :thumbup

Thanks :teeth the first 20lbs were in the first month and the other 20ish have slowly crept off the past two months. That just tells me I was being a complete fat ass if my body shed that much, that fast just by diet :laughing

I have this smart scale I really like and I track my weight, body fat, body water, muscle mass, and bone density through it. I didn't start using it till I was at 180 but from 180 to 150 I've gone down 8% body fat, and up in muscle mass from 27% to 31% :thumbup

I will say rock climbing is a whole lot easier without those extra lbs!

Well, I'm not a huge scale-watcher at this point, as fitness is FAR more important, but I am/need to watch my eating (dammit, why is food so good?!?). I'm being pretty good about the fitness, which can really throw the scale off. 6-ish years ago I was in the upper 120's and pretty fit, so I THINK that's where my body can/should be. The only time I've been much below that was during black belt testing for 4 months, which isn't a lifestyle training i could keep up LOL.

So, while I'd be stoked to see 128, and that's my ultimate goal, my real goal is getting fit enough for my racing and where I want my racing to go - so that's my priority.

That was my experience too, I was so out of shape (well, round is a shape) lots of poundage melted away incredibly fast upon restoring order to the nutrition plan. I was dropping a pound a day for the first 10 days! Using the proven format: Six small meals a day instead of three big meals, lots of protein from egg whites, chicken breast, tilapia, cod and more. With veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, etc and keeping a close eye on the carb intake. Massive water intake too, a gallon a day is a good target.

Can't forget the sweaty exercise either, I like a balance of cardio and strength training.

I'm with the others that don't really have an overall weight target, my long-term goal is a much better muscle/fat ratio...even now after I've lost almost 30 lbs since July, my muscle/fat ratio is still a debbie downer. :(

Just gotta keep on keeping on, firm up the jiggly bits over time.

Currently running 5K @ 8:20/mile
Goal is to run a 10K @ 8:00/mile by the end of the year.

No weight loss plans -- currently at 115-lbs.

My body recovers so much faster when I consume more fats - nuts/trail mix, avocados, whole milk/cheese, salmon -- and I'm never hungry!

I just want to cycle/run faster without getting injured -- Is that too much to ask? :x

haha, I just want to drop those 2 seconds without blowing up like a puffer fish for 4 days after a race weekend!!

Good thing I have this winter to train for next year - stepping up to the liter bike is going to be a level of work I probably can't even imagine yet. :laughing

HAHA!

We should get you into cycling this winter -- great cross-training for road racing :)

Regarding scale, I have this one.

It's great and seems accurate to me, and is compatible with healthkit and lose it! (apps I use).

I don't know if it's because of the weight loss, but my cb1000r feels way less comfortable/stable than it did before. Yeah, I need to adjust suspensions.

I can relate to that. WHY IS THE FOOD SO GOOD. Also, being "social" is a killer too: lunch, drinks and so one with friends... It's really weird to go to a bar on a date or whatever and be like "A diet coke please" lol.

Little big step for me: I wasn't able to get into my leather jacket and suit anymore a month ago. I can now :).

We have the same year cbr :Port

I haven't noticed anything majorly different despite the weight loss. But I had the suspension adjusted at ~170lbs so I'm not that far down from there. The most noticeable difference for me has been not having the tank jammed into my stomach :laughing

Also, I can fit into my mesh gear for the first time since 2014, right in time for winter :rolleyes :p

Ya, unfortunately, no bicycle....

You can find some decent road bikes for less than $1k
Can also be cheaper if you buy one used through CL.

If cycling is out of the question, then running?:laughing

I laugh because everyone I know hates running, but its the best bang for the buck when it comes to calorie burn without equipment. On the other hand, its also high impact :|

I've found some I like in the 400-500 range, but that's still way beyond my means. I've got a gym membership, and a trainer putting together plans for me - working out and fitness isn't the issue with the weight - food is :laughing

And yes, running is something I can do a very small amount of - torn meniscus in both knees since I was a teen makes too much pounding on them a no-go.

AJ - if you wanted to borrow my road bike you could. You're a bit taller than me (I'm 5'4) but the seat should go up a bit. Assuming the frame isn't too small for you, you're welcome to it for however long till I need it. We don't really know each other but I know enough of you to not worry about it. It's not super fancy but has nice light wheels and been more than good enough for the mini triathlons I've done. All I'd ask is you replace the tires if you wear them out :) I'm in San Leandro.

:thumbup That would be cool. I'll shoot you a PM

Welp, my trainer definitely upped the intensity with my newest program lol - which was a good thing, cause I was feeling the need for "more" and he definitely delivered. Now, if I can continue to be good about food, maybe, just maybe, I can slink into that dress I've been dying to wear to the AFM banquet (which takes place in January). Been way to fat for it the past 2 years, but I could do it this year....

:thumbup

Just spent 3 days in the Craft Beer Capital of the World (San Diego)...I wasn't kind to my healthy lifestyle. Got a 5k run in, which was promising, but the intake choices...were not great.

not looking forward to Friday weigh-in:nchantr

yeah san diego wasn't the best for me...gained only a pound though (174 two Fridays ago). Got back on the horse, ran 2 x 5k, weighed in last Friday at 172.

My wife asked me to host a margarita and mexi food party for her and a friend. I felt good about the week so I decided to indulge, and I indulged...a lot. I'm going to have to be extra good this week to get a positive result come Friday.

So good, during circuit training tonight we did 36 circuits in a row (12 different exercises done three times), each exercise was 35 seconds duration. I was dripping so much sweat that when it was time for the last circuit which was burpees, the toes of my shoes were sliding on the sweat covering the floor. :laughing

It was and is! I got sick as hell at that percentage. Never again. The only reason I went that low was that I was running competitively. I looked like a skeleton.

Serious question, did you have any libido at all in that low of a fat percentage? i'm slowly trying to get into ultras and feel like i never eat enough even at 2500-3000 Cal a day --- do you have an estimate of how many calories you were taking in at that level of competition?

That's a good goal! Keep the motivation going and it's not gonna be a "maybe" anymore.

And how do you feel? Isn't your sleep better? Your appetite developping toward healthier food?

I dropped weight again.
August 28th: 172lbs
October 10th: 163lbs

But I'll stop focusing on weight. I should (I said it before). I must focus on BF cause I am doing a lot of lifting (4-5times a week) and my friend is really pushing me hard during those.

So... I started at 24-25% of body fat and today I am 21.6%.

That's a good goal! Keep the motivation going and it's not gonna be a "maybe" anymore.

Well, that gives me a mid-winter goal/motivator - the real motivator is the simple fact that if I have any prayer in any non-earthly place of being competitive on the bigger bike next year, I'm going to need to be a hell of a lot more fit!

*and by competitive I mean "not last" :laughing

Same here, I don't mind my current weight (well, another 10 lbs dropped would be cool), but it's the BF ratio that needs the attention now. I envy your 21% BF ratio! I would be happy with 21%.

Healthy food is the key to all this, you just can't overcome a shit diet with exercise...ain't happening. I've been starting each morning for about the past 10 weeks with egg whites, asparagus, broccoli and other veggie goodness. Get the day started on the right foot. :thumbup
