"Burning Man 2017" Caution: May Contain Burning Man

i have a simple feeling about those that don't understand.

if you don't want to go, don't. i don't want you there.

if you have an interest. you should come. very very very few have regretted it.

its hot. its dusty. its one of the best things to come together on this planet. you truly can not understand it until you've been.

its like having kids and being a parent. ppl say they get it, but as a parent you know your kidless friend has no idea. it may be a ton of work, and it might suck at times, but its the best thing to have happened to you.

I brought my friend for his first time this year. he says its the best thing he's done in his life besides marry his wife. (and he has a lot of accomplishments)

THis is not meant as an insult, but how much YOU or anyone "wants us there" is totally irrelevant to the decision making process :)

May I point out that the playa isn't a desert with sand.

It is one of Ma Natures' toxic waste sites, nothing lives, nothing grows, on an alkali lake bed that will rot your exposed skin if left untreated.
'98-'03, '07 participant, viewer of every burn since, but '04.

Sorry, I'm kind of calling bullshit on that one:

Many species of fairy shrimp and other invertebrates survive in the surface layer of soils waiting for rains. Impacting the surface layer does affect these organisms. When it floods (like it did this year), there shrimp provide a major food source for many, many animals, especially migrating birds.

I don't consider myself much of an artist, but I enjoyed helping a friend build his vehicle for last year's burn. It gave me an opportunity to do some welding again which I haven't done in years and enjoy. I've never been to BM personally (yet). I think one of the benefits to it though is bringing people together, in whatever way that may manifest, through shared experiences. Maybe it's drugs, maybe it's sex, maybe it's music, maybe it's art, maybe it's learning a new skill, or witnessing a master craftsman build something in front of your eyes. Maybe all of those.

It's on my list of things to do at least once. :dunno

I guarantee I would want to stab everyone within the first hour of being there :laughing

Fuckin-A.

PS, you know Burning Man has jumped the shark when Heidi Klum mentions it on TV.

PPS, the peepz I know who've gone are corporate goons who want an excuse to pork people other than their spouses for a week.

i did wander into a camp that had about 100 Maxim and victoria Secret models.

pdiddy was also there.

Last year I was in Sparks and watching Reno local TV. Guy gets on TV with a top hat and purple glasses, former CEO of Tyco now CEO of Burning Man. I could see through the guys whole schtick, he was all the CEO he ever was but dressed like a fucking poseur clown.

How much revenue does burning man gross and where does it go? $500 bucks times 70k people is quite a chunk of change, but of course its not for the money.

No, it's for the "radical self-expression" :laughing

Dennis Kozlowski? He better be careful, he already did time for excessive extravagant partying. Which IMO was a bullshit charge.

I'm sure there's plenty of profit to be made, but there's a ton of expenses, too. Building up that much infrastructure, with bathrooms, safety, life flights, heck, I'd believe they sink many millions in just having that much fire and rescue staff on site for two weeks on end. Municipal safety personnel do not come cheap.

The dude's over 70, he better lighten up on viagra and hookers or he'll end up like the google dude on the yacht.

Lot of rich people there as well, I mean seriously rich. Bringing in huge luxury trailers and ringing them together to create their own villages lol.

According to the racial makeup of Burning Man attendees in 2014, about 87 percent of them identified themselves as white, 6 percent as Hispanic/Latino, 6 percent as Asian, and 1 percent as black. When interviewed by The Guardian about these figures, Harvey replied, "I don't think black folks like to camp as much as white folks

:wtf :laughing

I held Tyco stock throughout that incident. I don't believe I lost anything. There were bigger WS fish to fry that stole a lot more from shareholders and are still in the game. Kozlowski was made a scapegoat.

Might not have been Tyco I will ask my father he watched same video. Whoever it is, the guy is a joke.

Ok just fact checked, guy was CEO of Raytheon. Dont want to ratfuck the wrong person.

Yeah I wasn't really buying it that it was Kozlowski. He doesn't look any more a camper than the boyz in the hood.

Yeah, looks much more the Burning Man type...
