Buy Gpro now!

Just took a gamble and bought NBG minutes before the close. Putting it out there for ridicule before it's move so all y'all can laugh if it doesn't work out.
Been watching this one for a while and might be on the road to some sort of a recovery after this weekends news.

:laughing :rofl

They've been in my portfolio for a couple of months now - I figured they were done beating the dead horse around .50

I did well back in 08-09 with IRE (Bank of Ireland, no longer listed in NY) buying at 3 bucks or so before it climbed to $19. It started to slide from there and I got out around $13.

I bought 11800 shares of NBG, not willing to gamble anymore than that on it.

It's the kind of stock you watch very closely, but you could do well on it. I was going to go balls deep in AIG when it was in the twenties, sort of a pessimistic 'we'll never learn' kind of thing, but then the optimism took over and I thought it would be a bad investment. Wish the cynical side would have won that internal argument.

My coworker gave me a heads up on it and I bought 10000 at the time.

I'm about to sell NVidia since they're pretty high and I'll have made a gain of
Date Acquired: 20-Mar-15
Cost per Share: $23.71
% Gain / Loss: 21.05%
:party

They're currently @$10 off their max high - debating on sitting on it for a few more bucks, normally 20% gain is my sell point.

Ive been watching AIG for years but who knows whats going on inside that black box. Supposedly trading at 75% of tangible book value, reducing debt and buying back stock.

Been watching NBG for the past year and almost pulled the trigger back last spring. I even mentioned it somewhere here on the barf, that would have sucked. I remember watching it early Oct at $0.50 and I just wasn't brave enough to bite. It might be one of those that they're determined to save but bet it could sink fast also.

I bought a bunch of Nvidia at their IPO. or thought I did. ordered up the wrong stock symbol. argh.
like I've posted, only penny gamble I've got is SGLB, 25,000 shares at $.09.
real time QC for metal additive manufacturing, fuel nozzles, turbine blades, etc. they got some orders with Boeing.
the dad was an aerospace engineer, I was introduced to A.M. around 35 years ago, so I have some fuzzy idea about what they are actually doing.
Maybe a $2 stock at some point.
NBG, hmm. souvlaki, gyros, Kardashian. sounds good so far...but Greece got no GDP to speak of.

You bought the wrong stock, do'h :laughing :nchantr
Individual stocks go up and down no matter the direction of GDP

of course. but when investing these days, I tend to at least consider the downside factors that I think I'm aware of. The upsides will take care of themselves.

I couldn't imagine leaving $100K in one stock. Even if it's a supposedly stable stock like Apple, that's too much money in one company. Unless maybe your net worth is $5M+ and therefore $100K doesn't matter as much to you as it would to someone else.

Most of your money should be in index funds, not individual stocks....... IMO

I'd agree with all that. I actually already sold half my position in siri. I initially bought 58000 shares and sold half at less than a buck. If I like a new stock I usually put $10K into it and thats what 58000 shares of siri cost. Had I not sold Id currently have $240K in it. Kills me to think of what was left on the table. I'm selling if it hits $5.
Don't hold any index funds yet I'm a strong believer in them. I don't even take my own advice :facepalm

Absolutely. I had no idea what I was doing, and no outside guidance. Got shanked by brokers I thought I should trust more than a few times. canadian mining and such. got ripped off trying options, too.
I like FSPHX as an IRA substitute for SPY...more volatile, but hefty cap gains re-invested push it past the S&P by 8 or 9%. I'll take it. sounds corny, but one must accept their limiltations. I had a very expensive education, you might say...:|

I don't even take my own advice:laughing

That's what I do.

10k here 10k there for short
Bigger stakes for longs like Vanguard ETFs

After this mornings news it appears $25 is a pretty strong floor

I wouldn't be surprised if we see some selling pressure as the week goes on. One of those "Oh, Polaroid did WHAT? Guess we have to mull it over for the next couple of days and ensure the public feels uncertain about this."

I do agree that $25 feels like a strong floor though. I'm going to stay on the sidelines for now, but I think time for a reentry is slowly coming along.

the firmware to sync the cameras is all GPRO as well.

I haven't functionally used it but I've witnessed it being used, I can't fly for shit ;) But battery change outs isn't a huge issue for it's intended purpose. There aren't many times I'm going to be physically active in the zone for greater than 20 minutes. What I didn't like was how often it ran into shit and crashed :laughing it often found a way to hit the only tree in the park :facepalm I don't see a good use for it in nature after seeing what I saw which eliminates a huge use case for it. Also, it wasn't very accurate and struggle to make the user the main focus of it's shot. It needs more sophistication.

I know the pilot in that video, he's very skilled at what he does but I don't think it's exceptionally hard to keep level manually, I do assume they have an auto level function. The bigger wow factor for me is not horizontal or vertical leveling, but there is no "warble" from the rotors... so the camera is fully vibration dampened.

I don't think it would make sense to launch them in the same quarter though. I could see the drone and spherical in Q1 of 16 and the new camera in Q3. This would really help cement good sales. Bolster their spring/summer with drone and bolster Christmas with new camera.

Oh good, glad to hear the firmware is GPRO's as well.

WRT the Lily, yeah if it crashes into things and can't keep focus on the subject, that's a problem.

Do you mean you know the pilot of the Lily, or the pilot of the GPRO drone?

As far as the lack of "warble", do you think that could have been achieved by shooting at a high FPS, then slowing down to smoothen the video? Or do you think this is more than just slowing down video?

I think your timeline for the spherical is correct, I think the drone might wait until Q2.

The GPRO drone pilot, he's a good friend.

The current camera cannot shoot in a frame rate at 1444 that can be slowed down sufficiently to smooth the video at normal playback speeds. There is one post process (twixtor) that has the capability to fake the technique but GPRO indicates it wasn't cleaned up in post. :dunno

I would agree with your release schedule ;)

Gotcha, I figured that might be an issue (being able to shoot at a higher FPS at the higher resolutions).

So does that imply then (and perhaps this is what your logic is), that the drone video had to have been recorded using a newer camera that can support higher FPS at higher resolutions, or that the drone has exceptional vibration dampening?

to be honest, I don't know.

My thought process on why I think it is a new camera is actually based on how it's handling shadows especially when it's flying in the trees more so how fast it's correcting white balance - yes this is done in post as well but I can tell how clean the footage is to begin with.

In the beginning of the video they claim they didn't correct stability in post which I would attribute to the drone.

I mention the lack of "jello warble".

For me, too much is going on for it to not be a new camera.

Ask Adam, but we've done something similar using a Phantom - nothing groundbreaking from what I can tell. And, you are correct in stating that being a good pilot is paramount - we've dumped two high-dollar rigs (thankfully repairable) with pilots that are very good.
I wouldn't "bet the farm" on this tech. doing much for them....

NBG had me stressing a little this morning. This one could be a roller coaster.

Anyone have a good reason to not buy Priceline? Up 300% in 5 years
