Cars that make your jaw drop.

My ride for the weekend! :cool

It's not mine, it's a company car but I'm not complaining!!
XKR 510hp convertible. Driving it down to L.A. tomorrow for a work related training class and then back up here Tuesday. I'm figuring I'll take PCH most of the way with the top down and look like a pompous ass!! :teeth

nice, though i hope you found a funner road than 1. it's always clogged with rubberneckers and RVs unless you manage to hit it at weird hours.

I've ridden Hwy 1 through Big Sur a few times without issue. Weekends in the fall or weekdays in the spring. Very little traffic. Just at construction zones. That Jag would be fun anyway. I'm still jealous.

yes, well done.

also probably a repoist, by me but it's another jag

One of my personal top 5 cars (another Jag on the list is the XKSS)... The XJ13 was made to race Le Mons but they changed the the specs so she never raced in the event (she did break the track lap record). I think it might be on display at Jaguar in the UK.

Lot of interest in these now - they are on the build list for British replica specialist. Three years ago, no one was doing them - I suspect the prices for the replicas (aluminum) will be in the $250k range.

Obviously its a street car.

The reason I asked is because I don't quite understand the intent. If it's for racing, what class does it run in and is it trying to comply with some rule that it has to have lineage to a vintage car? If it does have to be an "old car", then is this really it? I can't think of more than a dozen things that are actually the real car and not a brand new fabricated or adapted piece. If it doesn't have to be an old car, then is it just for show to make it look like one? But then it's not so interesting that it's just part of an old shell with the rest of it being such a drastic departure.

You are way overthinking this. To me it is a work of metal fabrication porn.
Did you look at the gallery and process instead of just the racecar looking end product?

^^^ Amazing! stacking dimes. That welding is art.

Purpose of a building a hot rod is to just build what one person wants, doesnt have to have a function.

The $$$ in this car though, definitely has a function.

The suspension has me mindblown. I don't understand how the near horizontal front shocks work. One off control arms etc. Seems to be fabbed so giant ass tires can fit. Clearly must work because there is no room between fender and tire.

I wasn't looking to drive balls out (can't risk my license at all) I hit some pockets of traffic and the slow pokes but I had a blast and enjoyed the car immensely!! I have the sun burn to prove it :rofl

I need to make more money...I'd buy one if I had the means!!

You build cars like this because they are a fun idea.

A very common question i ask people who are trying to get into racing is, "do you want to race? Or do you specifically want to race a _______?" The blank could be VW, or an AMC Pacer, or a pickup truck, or whatever they happened to have brought me. The recomendations are drastically different, depending on that answer.

I don't think racing this car is its primary function. I think looking cool while going around a track, and sitting in the parking areas, is. There are plenty of "yeee haaawwww!" Groups and classes to run it in though. And I'd love to see some video!

One thing I myself dream of building, is a classic trans-am era pony car, built to compete against the modern Porsche 911 Competition car they use for current endurance racing. I dream about winning the 25hours of thunderhill with it.

But its not because i want to race... Its because i want to build something to beat something else. It could never be legal for something like LeMans, or any regular class.... But it would still be great fun to build and compete! (The t-hill race has a class called "super unlimited" that my car would be legal in)

I gave up trying to build a class car because, every time you build a car for what you want to race in, they change the rules. Now I just build what I want and if it fits, it fits.
