Cars that make your jaw drop.

Ha, ha... specially the ones that had the 4-speed columnshift!
In all fairness, I don’t think I’ve ever felt a column shift in anything that wasn’t a sloppy mess. But at least in something like an old Bronco, you get to say that cool term “three on the tree.”

"Three on the tree" (y) Learned to drive Chevy trucks with the non-syncro 1st gear SM318 (3-spd) and the SM420 (4-spd, w/compound low) transmissions. Got pretty good a double-clutching 'em into first gear at around 5-8 mph so didn't have to come to a complete stop. Although the SM420 complained a lot if you tried it above 5 mph with it's 7.06:1 first gear.

Bronco's had full-syncro 3-spd trannies.
:laughing

Remember the days of the lever you had to pull out under the dash in order to get into reverse on the 4-in-the-tree Fords after putting it in neutral? :laughing

Telling younger people day that you had to double clutch something, they think you’re talking about a Porsche PDK or some other modern transmission.

Haven’t had to drive too many non synchro boxes, but it’s always a remind how far things have come. I’ve seen an old video of a car on track. Guy was doing the heel toe on the gas and brake, and having to double clutch on the gear changes. Frigging Fred Astaire down there in the pedal box.

There are jagoffs in the commercial industry that still call driver's "pussies" if they double-clutch instead of floating the gears. It's hard enough to find a manual transmission truck in a large fleet anymore anyway...what's wrong with saving the transmission some wear and tear? Besides, every CDL school I've ever been around requires you to double-clutch while in training so it really just becomes second nature.

My '46 Chevy had a granny crash box, I learned with.
My 56 Ford PU, 389 Pontiac and three speed with OD, Hurst Mystery Shifter, on the floor, that was handy.
My 65 Ford PU, big six with a 3 tree. When I bought it, it would scramble the linkage and jam.
Had to go under to fix it. after a few fixes, I added ONE washer, never again.
The Freightliner with a 7 speed spicer was easy to run, syncros do work

Does this count? :teeth Not mine. So cool...

i want to make a column shift 6 speed because it would break peoples brains. it would also be built with as many left hand threaded fasteners as possible

Young boomers used to flip the 3 tree to the other side of the wheel, the left.
Add a wheel knob, "neckin' knob" , now you can pull your sweetie in close, with the right hand,
drive with the left.

Today we saw a Maserati sport utility. It made my jaw drop because it was so plain, vanilla, white bread, generic, lame. There was a Infinity one in a nearby lane. It looked pretty similar only better.
funny stuff made my jaw drop.

Butch Puhhhleeeze, look at the post above, then look up the history of Gulf sponsored race cars. Stop looking at SUVs on the side of the road.
