Recedite, plebes! Gero rem imperialem!
Appears that Cadillac is adding the "Blackwing" nomenclature to the "V" Series cars. Although, the Blackwing V8 was a totally new, unique engine. Cadillac's first twin-turbo, DOHC, 32V, 4.2-liter V-8 introduced in 2019, and only available for the 2019 and 2020 CT6 models.
Two configurations:
A regular-output version making 500 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque available in the Platinum edition (not a V series model).
The CT6-V has the high-output variant making 550 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. Too bad they never put a manual in these cars.
I think the high production costs for these trick "Blackwing" motors, at $20K+, plus low sales in larger 4 door sedans (all manufactures), influenced them to go back to the 6.2L LS supercharged motors. The Blackwing motor is also a bit taller and wider than the LS and doesn't fit in the CT5 chassis.
Looks like we’ll have to wait till tomorrow to find out what motors will actually be in the new V-Blackwing cars.
Currently their site doesn’t list the 464HP Twin Turbo V6 in the CT4 car, nor the 640HP Supercharged V8 in the CT5.
One thing for sure… From Cadillac: “For those who long to grasp the shifter and work the clutch, we have exciting news—the V-Series Blackwing vehicles will come with a standard 6-speed manual transmission”.
