Cars that make your jaw drop.

Do you mean to say that you think the hybrid will actually use up more brakes than a traditional ICE?

In my experience it's just the opposite, since regenerative braking does most of the job under normal circumstances.

Depends how people drive it, yeah. Good point on regenerative, but the weight difference may negate the savings. I expect most drivers to drive the M5 harder than a normal PEV.

Saw this guy yesterday (Sunday) while walking my dog. I was pretty far away so the photos are trash. Seems like it would present a struggle for the I-never-run-a-front-plate crowd. :laughing

Hope to catch up to him sometime and ask more about it.

That is interesting.. looks the same coming an going..!
I have never seen such a thing. Jaw properly dropped for one unique vehicle.

I wonder if he gets pulled over for driving backwards?? :laughing

It must drive the red light cameras crazy. 😂

Some real bargain basement deals at the Monterey car week auctions.

cnbc: Classic car sales stall in Monterey auctions as new generation takes charge

"Auction sales during Monterey Car Week fell 3% from last year, as a shift from older to newer cars left a pileup of unsold classics from the 1950s and 1960s.

Total sales at this year’s five car auctioneers in Monterey — RM Sotheby’s, Broad Arrow, Gooding & Company, Mecum and Bonhams — fell to $391.6 million this year from $403 million in 2023, according to Hagerty, the classic-car insurance company. That followed a decline of 14% last year compared with the peak of 2022."

Here are the top 10 most expensive cars sold during Monterey Car Week

  1. 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider — $17,055,000 (RM Sotheby’s)
  2. 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Lungo Spider — $14,030,000 (Gooding & Company)
  3. 1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Spider — $12,985,000 (RM Sotheby’s)
  4. 1969 Ford GT40 Lightweight — $7,865,000 (Mecum)
  5. 1997 Porsche 911 GT1 Rennversion Coupe — $7,045,000 (Broad Arrow Auctions)
  6. 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider — $5,615,000 (RM Sotheby’s)
  7. 1995 Ferrari F50 Coupe — $5,505,000 (RM Sotheby’s)
  8. 1955 Ferrari 857 S Spider — $5,350,000 (Gooding & Company)
  9. 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Alloy Coupe — $5,285,000 (RM Sotheby’s)
  10. 1958 Ferrari 250 GT TdF Coupe — $5,200,000 (Gooding & Company)

The rich are doing well with their (alternatively) invested dollars and are buying down market, for value...sitting things out until November 6th.

Fresh from the launch event last week in Venice, Aston surprised us and dropped off the 2025 Vanquish to show for a day.

The front end view looks pretty much just like the other new Astons (just change the vents around a bit for each one). But the rear is departure from the rest of the family and has some of the Victor/Valour in it. The real draw here is that Aston did not retire the V12. It’s back for one more run and this one is 830+ horsepower now.

Since it is a show car, it had no fluids, so couldn’t drive it. But I’m sure I will in the coming months.

I imagine maintenance is going to be $$$$$.

You’re not the same guy who came on my lot yesterday asking about an older Bentley and I said “to put it bluntly, if you can’t afford a new one, you can’t afford a used one” are you? Someone randomly saw me walking around my lot looking for a service car and asked me about the reliability of W12 Bentleys from that era.

If that was you then hi. If not, then I’ll tell you what I told him. If they’re willing to sell you some kind of extended warranty on it, buy it. Whatever the price. Those early Continentals and Spurs will absolutely bleed you out on an average of about $10k a year.
