CHP arrests fireman in San Diego

The fire truck parked behind an ambulance at the scene according to news reports in San Diego. So the left lane was already blocked.

Truck= safety. Ambulance is not there to block traffic.

That being said- I'm 100% sure there is some kind of history between either the individuals involved or the two departments.I don't think anyone waering a badge can be THIS dumb.

The news story said three fire trucks showed up at the scene and the CHPer asked all three to move their rigs. Two complied and guess who didn't. Does that make a difference now? I don't know. From reading various online sites, it seems the civilian consensus is to fire the CHP officer.

As soon as I duck out to plan a couple of funerals something interesting blows up in the LEO/EMS world that makes good conversation. So I suppose I'm late to the party, as always. I've seen LEOs do some pretty crazy shit at accident scenes and I've witnessed plenty of dumb ass firemen doing stupid shit too. In the end I always hope that calmer heads will prevail and everyone will learn from their actions. The problem is that both of our jobs require a 'don't back down' element and none of us typically put up with second guessing until whatever it is ends. That's not a very good combination when our goals are different... A man much wiser than me once said 'communication is the foundation of civilization.' Every once in a while I try to remember that.

Playing on the freeway is dangerous. My Mom warned me to never do it...

I heard the CHP Officer involved is getting re-assigned to the Susanville Office. :p

The fire truck parked behind the ambulance already blocking the left lane. Hopefully that's clear enough.

You mean the fire truck on the wrong side of the freeway of the crash that already had other trucks on scene?

Yes. I've seen plenty of emergency vehicles on the other side of the median tending to an accident on the other side in the opposite direction. Prolly better to stop there to protect the ambulance as well as it might be quicker to stop there to render aid as opposed to going to the next exit and returning to the scene of the accident, assuming that's possible. You seem to be exhibiting that "don't back down mentality". It doesn't help the public perception that firemen are heroes and cops are assholes. PERSONALLY I DON'T FEEL THAT WAY. I think that cops have to put up with way more bullshit and assholes than firemen ever do. I'm pretty sure you've had to do things that there isn't enough money in the world to pay me to do.

Apparently they parked the fire truck on the northbound side of the freeway blocking the fast lane. They hopped over the center divider for a crash on the southbound side. CHP told them to move it and he said no just arrest me then and turned around and put his wrists together so the Chippie hooked him up.

There are apparently a lot of moving parts to this story. I have no idea why either party did what they did.
Seems contradictory to your previous post. I'm incapable of quoting two posts in one post.

The actual reality is there are VERY few accident scenes where seconds or even minutes matter. No exaggeration 99 out of 100 times there is always a very lackadaisical attitude of everyone one scene, only if someone is missing a limb or not breathing does shit move quick, and that's exceedingly rare.

The drama of this is overblown, dude wanted to be a douche and not move his truck and the other douche called his bluff, that's what happens when douches collide. Dudes a captain, he's not about to go hands on with a patient even if they were the first and only rig on scene

So it boils down to dueling douches, that feed at the public trough. Makes me feel that the more than 50% taxes I pay are being well spent.

Easy now, you're in the LEO forum.

I'm still not sure what you were trying to point out that I was saying.....

If I was the cop, I think I would have just hopped in the rig and moved it myself. I hear that thrills the fire guys.... :laughing:thumbup

Rel,
In one post you suggest the fireman asked to be cuffed, which I have seen reported nowhere and I'm from San Diego and have LEO relatives. In another post you state that "There are apparently a lot of moving parts to this story. I have no idea why either party did what they did.".
What's with the easy now you're on the LEO forum? Am I in danger of getting booted off for a week?
