Clash of Clans

Doh!

I hate when that happens. That's the prime reason that most clans recycle people. But if you are in a clan with friends it's harder to do.

It's hard to convince people how war matchmaking matters. It's either good for war or good for farming. Farming doesn't take into account defense and warring doesn't take into account offense.

For my alt account i will be a th10 defenseless. On the war ladder I am still below a th5 with walls and canons. And because of my CC size I can fill it with dragons and loons, or valks and wizards and it takes someone on the opposite team to attack down. If they attack straight across I am getting zero star attacks against me.

But, I have a hard time looting now a days. The multiplayer matchmaking puts me up against other TH10s or TH9s. Every once in awhile I will get a th8 with loot but I'm penalized because it's minus 2 levels.

It doesn't really matter to me because I don't really farm with that account. I use the war wins/bonuses to pay for offense upgrades. Im in no hurry so it will take awhile.

I've completely stopped farming since clan wars was introduced. Now I focus on war and every 48 hours brings me close to 1 mil in gold/elixir and 5k in de. My farm base is basically set up to defend my resources and give my th10 away for the free shield. Farming is rather pointless to me now and I am sure this is the case for many th10 because farming at that lvl is not worth the risk unless you're in champion league and soaking in that fat bonus.

Huh. I rarely war and farm all my resources. I'm camped out in Masters 3 right now and the loot is rolling in.

Everyone does it differently. How much loot are you making every 48 hours and how much do you lose to building an army and losing to attacks.

Pretty much in Masters3, your th gets sniped within seconds after logoff. No resources lost.

Maybe every 1 in 40 attacks, someone tries to take it all. But never gets more than half.

I use gibarch, and can usually pickoff weaker bases for 50% and i really only need about 75k elixir to come up on the positive with the loot bonus. Don't usually need to use any spells. Maaaybe one heal spell if i want to get a little deeper in the base.

I'm a th9, so i'm sure the numbers change a bit as a th10.

My typical raiding army is 12 giants, 80 archers, 40 goblins, 10 wall breakers and 5 wizards, along with 10 minions. All in that's about 140k elixer. I usually don't use the wizards, minions or more than 6 wall breakers, so my average raid is 110k. I will usually use one heal spell for about 20k.

In M3, the loot bonus is 120k/120k, so a zero loot raid will be about break even if I only get one star. I only raid bases that have at least 200k available, though, so my take is more often than not in the 100k-200k range with 120k bonus. If you figure that the bonus washes out the troop cost, then that's about my average. I sometimes find raids for more loot, rarely for less. I don't recall the last time I didn't get one star where the payour wasn't extreme (i.e. I find an inactive base with full collectors and take the easy 300-400k of each and don't even bother for a star). Add to this snipes, which are infrequent, but I still get at least one a day. A snipe with a hero is 120k of each for free. I hit next on average about 20 times, so that's only 20k.

I pull in over a million gold a day and about half that in elixer. Oil is somewhere around 12k a day. I raid maybe 5-6 times a day and I keep my th exposed, so no rearming traps or losing resources as 99% of the people just snipe me. People see 400k elixer/gold and 2.5k oil available, but my defenses are strong enough that they just don't think it's worth it to give it a go.

I war about once a week. My war army is very expensive, costing about 300k elixer (with spells) and 2750 oil. for each attack. If we win the war, then I get about a million of each and 4-5k oil, so it's great for gold but not so much for elixer and oil. If we lose, it's a lot less.

As you said, everyone is different. I developed my farming strategy because War is not the primary focus of the clan. If I was in a war clan, I'm sure I would play more like you. What I have discovered is because I don't war much, I'm not very good at it. I can one star just about anyone, but you need more than one star to win wars. My tactics revolve around just getting that 50% and as much loot as possible, which is far different that the war attacks of at least 2 stars on anyone. I've taken these tactics all the way to Champs, where I bailed out right after I got the gems.

As a side note, my war base holds up very well. It's not uncommon for it to go unattacked and it's rare that people get more than one star on me.

....I would bring an alt to th8. That gives you the ability to donate max wizards, max loons, L6 giants, max hogs and L4 drags (Assuming Perk 5). TH7 troops just aren't worth donating these days....

I'm at TH8 (one of those guys that pushed too hard too soon without knowing that the heck he was doing, still struggling). Our clan is at perk 4. I can only do L3 drags and L5 giants. I read the description for perk 5 and it says "donated troop upgrade - one level". You mentioned L6 giants and L4 drags, is that one level upgrade with perk 5 only when donating to others?

Ironically, right after my post, someone made a run for my resources. He came in with a lvl21 queen, lvl7 giants, lvl7 archers, lvl6 wall breakers and lvl6 wizards and used a heal spell and haste spell. He got one of my elixer stoarages and one gold storage for about 100k of each. He came in on a spot of my base that most people seem to target and the lvl 8 teslas (i had two of them there) made quick work of the tier 1 troops.

Yeah I don't know exactly what is going on yet but getting my TH level to a 4.

And yes, they took 20 bucks of my money last night, lol. Couldn't wait any longer so I splurged on 2500 Gems and got some stuff done.

Got my wall to a level 2 I think. Got canons, archers, mortar and bombs to protect my village.

Question. So I will eventually be able to get some fancy shmancy walls right? I think I only have about 50 fence pieces. So I guess I have a tiny little protected area right now. I managed to actually form a square with the pieces I have ( I discovered the Edit mode)

I don't know how you guys do it without paying out of pocket. I was getting soo antsy trying to get shit done. I have three builders right now and the 4th one is going to cost me 1000. I have about 1300 left. So I'm not in any hurry to spend on another builder just yet. Although I may just say screw it and splurge on it

I've been trying to go on the Goblin Campaign trail, got to like 10 or so stages, but getting my ass kicked on one stage and can't get past it.

SO I don't get the whole farming only clan or war only clan. How does that work? I tried to join a clan but didn't know what the hell was going on so I backed out. :laughing

Can someone get me some cliffs notes. I tried to read portions of this thread but couldn't find the answers to my questions.

Thanks!

Yup, the post i was responding to, we were talking about our 2nd (alt) accounts. Sole focus is to donate troops to our main and the clan.

The only thing you should spend gems on is getting your 4th and 5th builder. If you think you are impatient now, wait until build times are 6,8,12 days long.

Once you have your 5th builder (this essentially is a more efficient/cheaper in gem cost way of speeding up build times), just use gems on boosting barracks/spells/heroes while you raid.

There is a calculator out there which will tell you how much money it costs to gem resources and build times. It's freaking expensive.

Cliff notes: The game is about patience. Save your gems for things that really count, and not for gold, elixer or speeding up a build. If you get in the habit of spending gems now, it will hurt you later when the builds really get annoying. For example, most of my builds now are about 8 million and take 14 days.

MAX OUT EVERY DEFENSE AND TROOP BEFORE UPGRADING YOUR TOWN HALL! I can't say that enough. The game works with handicaps for raiding so higher level town halls get penalized for raising lower level town halls. PEople get in the mindset that if they just upgrade to the next town hall, they'll get better troops or defenses, which leads to:

FIRST LEVEL ANYTHING SUCKS. BAD. Congrats, you just got Hog riders! too bad that at level 1 they are so fragile they are useless.

YOU NEVER HAVE ENOUGH WALLS. Many people say they upgrade early to get more wall pieces, but the game is designed to never give you enough. You have to pick what to protect and what to leave out. Most people use some buildings as buffers for their walls. Building you in no way need to protect include:

Barracks
Army Camps
Builder Huts

Most people don't bother to protect their collectors or mines, either. If yu keep on top of them, there isn't much to loot.

TROPHIES DON'T MATTER. Many people at first get caught in the trap of thinking that they need to be a higher trophy level to be cool. IT really doesn't matter. Raid where you can farm easy loot. Who cares if you are bronze I and someone else is Gold III. As a TH7, I lived in Silver. as a TH8, I camped out in Silver 1/Gold III. As a TH9, Gold II-CRystal III. As a TH10, I go all over the place.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO PROTECT YOUR TOWN HALL. Many people leave it out in the open for the free shield, myself included. Lots of peopel just got for the quick snipe and leave the rest of your base alone.

Jmack- just come over for another BBQ and I'll show you the ropes. The game has eleventy billion intricacies that make it super enjoyable over a long haul.

like others have said, don't use gems on build times or resources. use them for 4th/5th builder or boosting barracks if you can play for the duration of boost.

for raiding, stick with barbs and archers for now and look for dead bases. dead bases usually have gray icon next to trophy count instead of league badge. this means that they haven't logged on recently and that most of the loot is in collectors/mines. this is the most efficient way to farm imo.

i wouldn't worry about war until th8, and even then, you'll be an easy 3 star anyways.

Guys if you are going to spend money in the game I highly suggest only boosting your resource collectors. IMO that is the best bang for the buck.

Using gems for builders is the best investment in the game. But only if you play or farm enough to keep up with having resources to always start a new upgrade and builders always busy. I didn't get my 5th builder until I was just turning TH9 and in hindsight I should have got it much sooner. Even now in TH10 for the most part I've kept all 5 builders busy most of the time only up until now I'm farming in MasterII and only way to Champ. You also want to always have an upgrade going in your lab, as there's only one and it takes lots of time to max all troops especially from th8 on. Now with new dark spells even more so.

I keep one builder free for clearing obstacles and working on wall upgrades when I have a spare milion

Duuuuude... super thanks, Vik!!! I'm printing this shit out :laughing

Appreciate you taking the time to write that all down. I should sticky this post up top..hahha

Mikey, I may take you up on that! I'll be going to Scotland for two weeks but when I get back. Let's try to hook up. Its been too long anyway, my friend! :thumbup

Thank you, sir! And yes, I got super antsy last nite and said fug it, I 'm buying my way in or at least part of the way in. I do realize that it's one of those games where you are not just mashing with battles but kinda tweaking out a little or a lot on little here and there. It's pretty cool but super counter intuitive to my Call Of Duty, noob toob everything mind set. I'm trying to adjust my sensibilities to this game. But good lord, everything I'm reading is saying about six months to have a decent enough set up? We'll see. I'll let you guys know how I'm progressing.

Thanks again, y'all!

Here's my noob town right now
