Critical ass today in SF

I wouldn't think BARF would have so many CM-haters. Or maybe just the haters are vocal.

Actually yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Critical mass is only a problem in downtown SF. BART park and ride costs $5/day tops--and can be as low as $1 or $2. That's cheaper than parking my moto downtown, and you don't have to pay the bridge toll. Why not just ride or drive to the BART station, avoid the killer traffic and fucked up SF streets, and take transit downtown that day?

Not being one of these commuters, I don't know if this is reasonable or not--hence my question.

bart for me is $7.80 per day and it takes an hour each direction: the moto is $3 per day parking (monthly garage payment average) plus gas and maintenance costs for 30 mile round trip that takes a half hour each way. the moto is still cheaper.
of course on jul 1 that equation changes with the $2.50 carpool charge.

Critical Mass is for little whiny punks with small dicks! Want to go meet bicycle friends? Go to GGP. They close roads off on weekends. Why waste SF city money to escort these idiots around town on a Friday night commute. This isnt about a message or trying promote change, its all about little whiny punks with small dicks acting like little whiny punks with small dicks. I live on the regular route in the city and would be happy to invite any REAL bikers (read bicyclists and motorcyclists) to my roof to drink beer and throw empty bottles at the little whiny punks with small dicks.

ALL of douchebag mass, including YOU are inconsiderate assholes, whos daddy must not have paid enough attention to, hense the pathological need for attention, even negative to soothe yer immature ego. Either that, or due to the overwhelming feeling of inferiority and powerlessness you feel on a daily basis in the "adult world", and your terror at actually confronting another adult one on one, leads to this mob behavior.* Sort of like the anarchy fags that run around with black masks and throw rocks from 1/2 block away, then run.....soooo brave! Wonder if these trust fund warriors mommies know what junior is doing with his allowance money? I would love to gather a group of fellow Barfers in a little anti-critical douche ride, and trade some paint with the Schwinns...........:twofinger:twofinger:twofinger:twofinger

* (and the underwhelming size of yer penor)

Semper Fi! :thumbup
Count me IN! :)

How many motorcyclists ride within the speed limit and signal for all lane changes? Cyclists aren't the only ones pushing the law. :|

Please. If a motorcyclist rode like the typical bicyclist around here they'd lose their license and their bike in a heartbeat. And trying to compare Critical Mass to the average group moto ride is ridiculous. It's like comparing a group of kids playing football in a schoolyard with another group of kids breaking windows and spraying graffiti all over the school so someone will pay attention to them.

maybe we could get the border patrol to detain the massers to check their citizenship.

SF monthly ride is on the same day at the same time. Both groups number in the hundreds, ride 2-wheeled vehicles, make shitloads of noise, block intersections, lane filter, and violate flow control. Even the routes overlap. Some CM guys bust the double yellow. Some motos exceeds the speed limit by 50 mph and cut people off in traffic. I saw riders doing 110+ coming back into south SF last month. Both attract moto cops. Both have accidents.

Looks to me like the big functional difference is speed, and the fact that CM ties up SOMA for half an hour. Let's face it though--that's a *traffic problem*. If they were obeying flow control, it would be much worse. No real difference in legality, as far as I can tell.

And if a car driver drove like the typical motorcyclist, they'd lose their license and car in a heartbeat.

The fact of the matter is, smaller, more nimble vehicles can get away with things larger vehicles can't -- both within the law, and outside of it.

I'd never be involved with the asstards in Critical Mass any more than I'd go around revving the piss out of my engine at stoplights or being a pathetic poseur biker thug, but for those wishing physical harm on others, they'll get theirs some day.

So hilarious to see some people here generalize one group based on a few, and then getting their panties in a bunch when people generalize about asshole motorcyclists, especially in the aftermath of the "Look for Motorcyclists" freeway signs. :rolleyes

CM is AWESOME ...
think I will celebrate and meet some fellow BARFers for a lil ride of our own ; )

I hope that continues to make you feel warm and fuzzy.

You know what? It doesn't. I don't like the fact that CM ties up a lot of people and wastes time. I don't mean to justify the CMers, or assholes of any kind.

All I want to point out is that motos getting pissed off at cyclists is isomorphic to cagers' road rage against riders. In both cases, threatening violence is wrong. The road is dangerous enough already.

Edit: Also, I recognize that CM is way bigger than anyone, including the cyclists involved, can control. If mass police arrests only increased their membership, harassment by motorists won't do a damn. It's going to happen. You might as well roll with it, instead of getting pissed off.
