Diesel fan?

Agree'd.. But 1 overheating muffler starting a fire large enough to effect the entire building. :laughing I take it the engines had no external source (snorkel) for fresh air?

I know I know... Too many variables to think of.. But still....

I agree too. Obviously there were more flaws than just engine maintenance.

What do you mean by blow up? We sure it wasnt operrator error? AutoX is EXTREMELY tough on cars, Ive done it a lot.

You start a cold engine/trans/ You readline for 50 seconds then shut it off. Do this three times in one day, then put away and dont run the ar for 2 weeks till the next autox. Driving hard on the track for an hour is muh easier on a motor than autox.
chris: not so awesome
chris: but overpriced is right
chris: well
chris: statistically not so good
chris: I know three people I've met personally who have a raby engine
chris: 1) xxxxxx from 914world
chris: had a 2056 motor in his 914
chris: from raby
chris: it had the wrong valves so it constantly developed carbon and compression loss until the carbon was removed and eventually cracked a cylinder and had to be rebuilt
chris: 2) xxxxxx2 ( ? I think, his screen name is xxx ) had a 2270cc motor from raby
chris: which grenaded on the highway when a piston seized and a cylinder split
chris: 3) xxxxxx3, autocross co-chair has a 2316cc motor with like 1k miles on it, still running fine although not as powerful as cliff's motor

my edits to names, he gave specifics.

cliff is a mutual friend, with a nicely set up 914 with a 1970cc type 4, pump gas daily driver.

I'm tryin to get my hands on a 2000 Ford E350 Van with the 7.3L, currently. Wish me luck! They are hard to find. :(

I don't have much experience working on diesels, but I love my 09 jetta tdi.

Actually took it stock to Thunderhill for a trackday. Not the fastest thing, but held up pretty well on all season tires :)

Have you looked at surplus ambulances?

No it doesn't, but it should EPO the other engines (cut fuel/air and power) and keep the damage minimal. Just my .02

You know damn well any fire suppression system installed up there wasn't connected to the engines whatsoever, Ken. They're not going to spend money like that. It was probably just a sprinkler system or on the high end they were using halon. However if it was halon, it failed miserably.

Their insurance carrier may have required it and a wet system would be a "no" for up there. Halon was outlawed a few years ago and the replacement is a bit more expensive, but I could guess that they may have lost more money being shutdown than a fire suppression system would have cost in the first place.:nerd

Halon is still used. I won't tell you where. :D

Halon is still in use today, but is falling out of favor for many uses due to its environmental impact. Europe and Australia have severely restricted its use, but it is still widely available in North America, the Middle East, and Asia.

I was this --------||-------- close to picking up one of those last week, but they wanted $450/mo for the lease. No thanks. :laughing

Not unless you were in Europe you weren't. No GTD's in the U.S.....yet. :D

Was that $450 a month with $0 down?

Me- twice w/ H1211

Mmmmmmm GTD:teeth

My incident was when some dumbass Bradley driver hit the halon release when I was working on his turret. I don't think I've egressed faster from one of those things than I did that morning. :laughing

And yes, GTD. :drool

Okay, Golf Diesel. Whatever. :twofinger

Wanted one badly, but not at that price. I don't remember exactly what they wanted down on it, but VW's "Sign and Drive" doesn't apply to their good cars. :laughing

Sure it does. CC's and Tiguan's are nice! I got my GTI as a "Sign-then-Drive" deal too. :D
