Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

Hey Guys,

I wanted to run something by y'all. Are you guys up for a little challenge to get the juices flowing? Zack Arias calles it a GOYA contest. (GOYA = Get Off Your Ass)

How do you guys feel about having a little informal photo contest just for fun? I figure that we can have someone pick a word (typically a word that describes an emotion), then we all go out and try get one good picture that best shows this emotion. I figure that 3 weeks is a good time limit on this.

At the deadline, everyone sends the pics to me, and I'll put them up in the Sink along with a Poll. The winner owns bragging rights until the next contest.

Who is in?
 
OK, that's three of us. I'd like to get at least one more before I start. 6 is the max that I want in this game because BARF's polls are limited to 6 things (I think.) Either way, it'll get too unruly if we have more than 6 participants.

used to do that in a photoforum, but 360 pretty much taken over all my photo time. once i get over mw2 ill shoot teh fotos, we should all have like a specific size so its not too large or too small...

I was going to set up the rules later, but I guess I can start:

1. Pictures must be submitted in 800x600 (or 600x800) pixels size.
2. No nudity. (This is too easy of a way to get votes on BARF, so let's just not allow it. Plus, I don't want to have to put a NSFW label on the voting thread.
3. Pictures must be submitted to me no later than midnight (Pacific Time) on February 28th. (I'll PM my e-mail address to the participants once I finalize the list.)
4. BARF voters will judge which picture best describes the chosen word. (Independent of picture quality.)

Did I miss anything? I want to keep the rest wide open so that I don't limit anyone's creativity.

what about having the winner pick the topic for next challenge?
 
what about for editing? go the full 9 on the ps, or just minor dodge n burn here n there with a lil brightness and contrast correction....

That's the thing. Just because someone can PS doesn't mean that they naturally have an advantage. I want to leave it wide open this first time. Some of us know how to light pics off camera. Does that mean that it's not fair to the folks that only know how to use onboard flash or natural lighting? I want to keep the rules small. If someone wants to get around the rules, I don't care. It's just a game to get folks off their asses to take pics.

Some of us take pics all the time. Others need something like this to spark some motivation and/or inspiration. We are not doing it for money, and I don't care if someone decides to cheat. They would only be hurting themselves.

It's just a friendly game.
 
Sweet. That's 5. Someone hit up Ian and see if he wants to play too.


As for the word. I was thinking that we could start with one off the '7 deadly sins.' I was kinda waffling between picking one for all of us to use or just leave it up to each person to pick one. Based on what I do and what Ian does, I'm guessing that 'Lust' is going to be overdone.

How do you guys feel about using 'pride?'
