Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

Look what just landed on my desk 10 minutes ago... :teeth

Dude, I was just a c-hair away from blowing my wad on the f1.2 instead. I have two shoots this weekend. I can't wait to see what she'll do. :thumbup

Makes me wish I knew about optics and building lenses. What I really want is a couple of f/1 (or faster!) lenses. Don't care if they're fully manual, I just wind up shooting in the dark and would like shutter speeds faster than 1/30.

Just get a D3S to shoot at super high ISOs. Shooting at f/1.0 would give you razor thin DOF making it pretty damn hard to shoot anything

since we're just dreaming, I want super fast flash sync speeds so that I can take some short DOF pics while using strobes in daylight. :x

Or you can stack a few ND filters! :cool

So, is the winner picked, and topic for the next pic, picked yet? And end date?

Hopefully I won't get so distracted this time :|

I have a film SLR that is out of focus beyond >4 feet and in focus under <4 feet from the subject. Any advice on how to narrow down the culprit i.e. lens or body? Obvious choice would be to try a new lens but I only have the one.

Minolta X-7A

What mount style is it? What area are you in? Most minolta stuff is the same as sony. Which if you find out let me know. We can meet up and you can do a test shoot with one of my lenes...

Is this a new to you camera?

My shot in the dark is that the focusing screen has moved somehow. The other possibilities I can think of are that the mirror isn't going to the correct position or the film isn't being held properly.

It's a fully manual camera, right? Through the eyepiece the subject is in focus but prints come back with the focus always in front of the subject, right? Is the focus consistent throughout the viewfinder? If the image looks fine through the viewfinder, but the negatives / prints are coming back wrong the lens would be fine and the problem is in the body.

Nikon D90
Nikon 70-200 2.8 VRII
Nikon 50mm 1.8
Nikon 10.5 2.8 Fisheye
Tokina 11-16 2.8
Gorillapod Tripod

I dont really care for this bag too much. A few of the zippers don't work anymore... I really only use it to hold my gear, and throw what I'll use in my messenger bag.

They've got a parabolic light modifier that looks pretty sweet. Lots of potential uses, and it's not all that expensive. Too bad EVERY SINGLE SIZE is on backorder
