Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

I've been awfully tempted to get some real strobes, but they just don't match my shooting style. They would probably end up sitting in a box while I happily roast the tubes out of my speedlights. Can't fit three AB's and a vagabond in a backpack with all the other junk. I could theoretically still transport my entire kit by motorcycle, although I haven't tried recently. :laughing

I can take all of my gear on my bike. Two backpacks on the rear pegs and stands under the straps.)

You know, what i can can carry on the bike plus a change of clothes is prolly a good limit for me.

'Course that could also prompt me to get a bigger bike too.

Hey, I am looking to extend my range (I only go up to 70mm DX) and also have the ability to play more with shallow depth-of-fields. Would anyone recommend strapping on one of these lenses to my Nikon D70? Seems like they are cheap to buy, which fits my budget (under $100 each).

1. Nikkor Q Auto f2.8 135mm
2. Nikon 100mm F2.8 E MF lens

It looks like they are probably old and probably manual focus. But at least I could have the range/DOF that I want, for the price I want. Am I just sacrificing autofocus?

Better than nothing?

Don't bother?

I searched for samples of those lenses on Flickr and the results looked good at a glance.

I don't know about either one, sorry. My 35mm gear is Minolta. But if the quality is about the same, go for the longer one, it'll give you better variety. (And either one will also make you want 200mm+. ;o)

What's the auto in the first one mean if it isn't autofocus? Personally, if I only have price to go on and they're about the same, I'd go with one that's fully manual first; chances are it'll have better glass.

Just a friendly PSA. Select BB stores are closing out their Tamron lenses below cost. Scored a NIB 17-50 2.8 for $300 in Pleasant Hill (they have the 18-250 for the same price) :)
