Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

I still have my old Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 AIS lens. Never used the smallest f/stop on it, f/32. I should now, just to see how much pore action I can get from somebody's face. :laughing

Probably not much more than you're gonna get at f/16 or so. Beyond that point, diffraction really starts killing your sharpness. I've shot an 85mm T/S lens at f/45, and it was miserable. The DOF was great, but everything looked kinda hazy, like it had a soft focus filter on.

So whatsup with the lighting get together? I tried playing around with a remote flash other day at the Jam Session, got a cool few shots, but I really need to practice/learn what I'm doing haha

Mad-busy here. Ana got a new job (which I recommended to her!) so her time is all over the place right now. Plus my GF was just in San Diego, next weekend is easter, week after it's Operation Sterilize Ian, so won't be able to do that weekend.

Hopefully later in April (25th? 26th?) - I think my gf is going to MN, so I can clear out the kiddie stuff from the lounge and we'll have plenty of space.

Might bring Silvia too, we'll see. Ideally her friend Cari, who looks like a blonde Bettie Page with tattoos - very good for trying 50's pin-up stuff.

I got a backdrop kit (borrowed) and 1 dark gray, patterned backdrop, 1 light blue (ick!).

I want to re-do this one nude, or at least with panties on instead of pants:

And this one with her spaced out from the backdrop. Just couldn't be arsed to try to separate her post-production here, just easier to re-do it. And might try a small light for her eye(s).

Oh, and this is Silvia:

Pics of Cari will have to wait, she's a friend of Silvia's and I don't yet have permission.

A quick series from last night's photo shoot. (I'm really digging the white seamless these days.) :thumbup

Where is a good place to buy used gear, besides Craigslist? I thought B&H sold used gear as well, but it's not obvious after a quick glance on their site. After pouring over Strobist's site, I'd say I'm in the market for an SB-24/SB-26/SB-28 and some light stands. :cool

I've never bought any of it myself, but I have heard the quality of used gear sold over at KEH.com is very high, and their level of wear descriptors are very accurate.

Their prices are pretty high, as a result, but I suppose that's what you get for buying sight unseen from a trusted source.

ZYPHER - is that a white brolly shot through up top, and a really narrow softbox down below?

Was having major issues with a nude shoot with Silvia the other day. This lighting meet can't happen soon enough...

Where can I get cheap light stands? I want something to hold my speedlight and perhaps an umbrella. What should I expect to pay?

Cheap? Go to the folks in Burlingame. $35 IIRC.

(I posted about them a couple of times in this thread.)

Haha, sorry, I thought you knew off the top of your head. Thank you for digging it up! :thumbup

Is this a brick/mortar store? The Craigslist links have expired some time ago, of course.

That said, you've been pretty happy with them? Do they come with connects for a speedlight or umbrella? $20-30 is certainly in my wheelhouse.

Oh, you're awake.

Take the last link for the CL search. It should show what they're advertising this week. Yep, it's brick and mortar, but it's in an office space rather than a store / storefront.

Like my Bogen stand, these came with no attachments at the top beyond the 0.25"/20 thread.

Also, I have a bunch of super clamps and spring clamps to get rid of if either of those would interest you.

<ETA>

Hrm. No current ads right now. From what Cycle61 Nick said it sounds like they've been in business for at least five years, so I imagine they're still there. Good thing I saved that contact info.)
