Do Harley's Attract More Women?

The question about was which motorcycle prefered by willing women. Not which motorcle best for committing a crime on.
People looking for drama i guess

So the moral is don't let Harleys rape guys riding on the back? Get a soft tail.

On that note, I accept personal responsibility for offending everybody with my post.

:thumbup Honestly, I think there's probably a hilarious thread in the idea of poking fun at those who legitimately believe terrible things like "women are just looking for the right brand association to mash their body parts on", but it would require some work to figure out how to pitch it in a way that it wouldn't just become shithead surprise. :laughing

The question was "assuming women are manipulated into sleeping with men by the nature of the motorcycle said man rides, are harleys best"?

It's not the question that's offensive, it's the assumptions it's built on.

Right. And as I said earlier, that question implies that that the person asking it views all women as equivalent to each other. It implies that women are an undifferentiated commodity, so that men don't care which particular willing woman they get, as long as they get some. This question is based on a fundamentally offensive assumption, and that's why it's offensive.

Yup, hits the nail on the head.

Nothing's off limits, people should just be aware that with free speech comes personal accountability for the outcomes of their speech. If you spend your days encouraging shitty attitudes through jokes, then you shouldn't be surprised when decent people to hold you accountable for your shitty expressions.

If you don't feel comfortable with that responsibility, or if your material is indistinguishable from actual racism/sexism, probably worthwhile to improve your material until it's not terrible.

I mean, an example of how things should go down went down in this thread itself. Karbon made a shitty joke, and then stepped up and took responsibility for that. So did jdan007, and they're both good people for doing that. If you're gonna be edgy, be prepared to take responsibility for if you end up dicking it up and looking like an asshole - it doesn't make you a bad person until you double down when you misstep and confirm that you're actually an asshole, rather than going "oh, shit, I guess that was too far", and sincerely apologizing for taking the jokes to a place that isn't funny, just damaging.

Comedy is social commentary, and if the extent of your social commentary is "women are objects", it's shitty comedy.

The problem is that the question "which bike attracts more women" already makes an unspoken assumption that women are a commodity. You don't care about attracting a specific individual woman, you just want to attract as many women as possible. This implies that you think all women are equivalent, that they are commodities.

Same thing with "female attention". That phrase also makes the assumption that all women are the same. You don't care about any specific woman's attention, you just care about "female attention" in general. That again implies that you think of women as an undifferentiated commodity, not as individuals.

Think also about why exactly you want "female attention". If you're honest with yourself, you'll see that it's about boosting your ego. So your inclination is to use women as objects to satisfy your desires, which really isn't a very nice way to treat people.

I'm sure that all of this wasn't explicitly on your mind when you posted these things and you didn't truly mean it that way, but I hope you can see why many people have a problem when you're talking about human beings in that way. If you still can't quite see it, try to put yourself in the mindset of a woman reading your posts, and see how that might make you feel. It doesn't feel nice to be treated as an object that needs to be manipulated (by using the right kind of motorcycle) into giving you attention, a means to an end, rather than as an individual.

+ a million. This.

This is a land mine Id love to step on.......not rape but what people deem funny or should apologize for. Don't have the time to compose right now. Off the garage to do some wrenching. I like the cut of your jib though.:thumbup

If you knew Karbon, you'd know he was just being irreverent.... sucks that the internet fails us that way, with communication :(

Rape jokes are never funny.

Rape jokes are never funny.

Rape jokes are never funny.

It's not the internet that fails. It's not that we can't hear that special sparkle in his voice to know "oh, it's OK - what he's saying is funny..." What falls short is Karbon. And anyone else who makes rape jokes. Whoever Karbon is, could be a saint for all I know or care, they need to learn that in real life, on the internet, in actuality, under a rock or on top of a boat in the middle of the ocean, Rape. Jokes. Are. Never. Funny.

Rape is not irreverent. It is irreversible. Rape is destroying. It kills humanity. It's barely survivable. It can be worse than death. And if you think that's hyperbole, ask someone you know who has been raped. Go ahead.

Honestly, I don't think there's much to gain by drawing too strongly around it - good people will lean towards more considerate behavior and be quicker to apologize for offending, and shitty ones will argue about details as if that's somehow going to make it less offensive, less damaging, or invalidates that they said something insensitive.

Ultimately, arguing about how much you offended someone and if it's significant or not is a dick move, better to just apologize and learn your lesson, and revise what you view as acceptable levels of offensive speech accordingly. Goes back to knowing your audience, and frankly, there's some things about your audience you're never going to know.

This should make it damn clear why the above is worth paying attention to.

I tend to agree. Rape is not a subject to laugh about.

Time for a revision to the ToS, perhaps? I for one would be glad to support that.

Disagree. Just because someone wants to know what is more likely to attract women, whether it's the type of bike, clothes, body, hairstyle, or pickup line, doesn't mean he thinks ALL women will be attracted by it, or that he intends to fuck any woman that is. That doesn't make sense.

Need to agree with this, Most of us take a shower and put on clean clothes before a date/night out on the assumption that it will make us more attractive to whoever we might be tying to attract. You are not a bad person for trying to make your self more appealing.

Are women more attracted to guys with Harleys? I have no idea, but I am pretty sure they prefer guys who shower at least occasionally. A generalization perhaps, but one I feel pretty safe making.

Now that I think about it, I think Harleys are more attractive to just about everyone, and not just in a sexual way. Think about when someone who doesn't ride asks about your bike, if you say Bimota, KTM, or Fantic their eyes glaze over and they start checking their phone. Harleys are something everyone knows about and they probably have a brother/cousin/uncle who rides one so they can relate and talk about that with you.

Sorry to disagree. Bold fonts or extra periods added in a sentence do not make a statement more true. I agree that rape is never funny. A joke is funny. Same can be said about hyperbole of a guy getting "ass-raped". People are too sensitive. :afm199

I strongly believe that nobody on this thread advocates the use of chloroform, and also that nobody reading this thread is now more likely to use chloroform. Flame me if you like. :twofinger
